  • Family-friendly Dorset farm site 15 minutes’ drive from Weymouth beach
  • Around half an hour's walk from the South West Coast Path
  • Views of the Osmington White Horse and countryside
With a location that’s both handy and spectacular – being 15 minutes’ drive from Weymouth beaches and having views of the Osmington White Horse chalk figure – the pop-up Whitehorse Campsite is on a farm neatly tucked into a Dorset valley. On arrival, you'll need to check in at reception, where guests can buy ice cream and wood for open fires. The pitches are in spacious fields with the freedom to set up wherever you want; there’s no extra charge for large tents or gazebos. Campfires and barbecues are also permitted – but only off the ground and using firewood sold at reception. The whole vibe is very child-friendly, and there’s room for kids to run around and let off steam; dogs are welcome too (on a lead please), and there are canine-suitable walks from the pitches leading into the surrounding Dorset National Landscape. Spotless toilet and shower facilities are found at each end of the site as well as two separate washing-up areas, with drinking water taps nearby. Freezer blocks are available, and your mobiles and cameras can be charged at reception.

What customers say

This spacious, peaceful site offers stunning Osmington White Horse views. Guests rave about friendly owners, ample space, and clean facilities, especially powerful showers. Campfires allowed, logs for sale. Some noted dim washrooms & queues, but most loved it and want to return. Lacks recycling.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Location is beautiful, waking up to the Whitehorse and hills was just perfect!
Easy to find flat ground to pitch on over the 3 fields and being able to pitch where you choose gives you plenty of space and choice.
For the middle of august the site only had around 20-25 pitches used which is great for a relaxing quiet stay.
2 toilets and shower blocks situated at either end of the site, however I have to guess that the block at the entrance facilitates are superior as all campers drove down to these ones even though the were closer to the ‘wood’ end block.
Toilets are clean and always had paper with sinks. The showers are in the top 3 of campsites I’ve been to over the years, rustic yes but with water pressure and good temperature controls and with enough space to hang towels and clothes with them getting wet.
Stayed in a variety of campsites around Weymouth over the years and I have found my favourite- will be returning again!

Disliked Sadly and no fault of the owners, despite the warning of children and dogs running freely some campers drove far too quickly through the fields (my opinion)

Lovely stay aside from noisy campers and minor niggles.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The space. It’s huge!
The views are amazing.
Short walk to a really nice pub is a little hamlet. Beautiful place.
You can also walk to get the bus to most places.
The peace and quiet of other campers are respectful.

Disliked It’s set on a working farm so there is lots of poop everywhere.
Only 2 hot showers out end of the camp.
But we managed. More shelves and hooks in the showers would be great.
Noisy groups! Dealt with very well but the space attracts large groups.
It’s a long way to the freezer and bin wherever you’re camped.

Local attractions

Once you’re done admiring the Osmington White Horse (created in 1808), it’s time for a little gentle coastal exploration. The site is 10 minutes’ drive from Overcombe Beach, or you can walk a section of the South West Coast Path (five minutes’ drive) for views of the soaring limestone cliffs around National Trust-owned Ringstead Bay and Durdle Door. Family-friendly Weymouth (15 minutes) offers up golden sand on Preston Beach, colourful fish and comical penguins at the Sea Life Centre, and ever-changing sand sculptures at Sandworld. There’s also a skatepark for older kids and a couple of golf courses on the outskirts of town. Other days out could entail meeting the primates at Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre (20 minutes), where there are daily keeper talks, or stepping back in time to the Middle Ages to explore the hilltop ruins of Corfe Castle (half an hour). The military-history buffs among you will probably welcome time pottering around the vintage tanks and World War II vehicles at The Tank Museum (also half an hour).
