- Quiet, family-friendly and rural site in a wildlife haven
- Spectacular countryside views
- Firepits for guests' use and two large barbecues available to hire
Your little critters will blossom at Primrose Fields in Dorset. This small and friendly site close to the River Frome and just outside Wareham is only about a mile from famed ape rescue centre Monkey World: lots of fun to be had comparing family members with apeish inhabitants, of course...
The site's also in prime setting for settling down in a peaceful place, as it's in a rural wildlife haven and has heaps to do nearby without bothering with a car. There's woodland for kids to rummage around in, nature spot, den build or – your fave, no doubt – collect bugs and other small critters, and there's plenty of open space for small sorts to run around too.
Pitches at Primrose Fields aren't set, so you can make your camp either in the paddock or in the open woodland. Walkers, cyclists, watersporters, tents, campervans, couples, families and kids are all welcome on site.
Campfires are allowed within firepits, with sustainably sourced wood and charcoal available to buy. For food and supplies, nearby Wareham has a good selection of shops, cafés and pubs, while the modern and spacious Black Dog Inn is a hop over a stile away.

From the manager...
Thanks for this great review ;-).
A car is certainly handy at Primrose Fields as it quite rural. The pub is next door but the nearest shops are 2 miles - 2 SPAR shops in Wool and the excellent Holme for Gardens farm shop and café or a larger range of shops in the market town of Wareham 4 miles away.
But carless is doable - there are regular bus services to Poole, Swanage, Wareham, Wool, Dorchester, Weymouth and Lulworth Cove from Middlefield Cottages about 10 mins walk from Primrose Fields - ref Purbeck Breezer 30 (summertime only) and X54.
Also bikes are an excellent option - National Cycle Route Network Route 2 is close by and the fantastic cycling around the quiet lanes and bridleways of Purbeck is easily accessible from the site. Lulworth Cove for example can be reached via a lovely ride through back lanes and bridleways from Primrose Fields.
I can always help with any questions about getting around Purbeck and can also recommend good local taxi firms if needed

Use satnav to get to the A352 between Wareham and Wool then look out for the Black Dog Inn. The site is on the same side.
What a lot there is to do around this Wareham-based site, including many options without even having to fire up the car engine: the Frome Valley Trail is close to hand and the quiet country lanes around these parts are just the ticket for gentle cycling. The Bovington Tank Museum and the Jurassic Coast are both easily accessible from the site.
Take a picnic or a catch of local fish and chips down to the grassy riverbank opposite the quay in Wareham for a restful afternoon, or wander around the town's Saxon defence walls for views in all directions. Another good walk is the Two Rivers one down to the backwaters of Poole Harbour, but if you’d rather get out on the water than look at it, you can hire a canoe, kayak or paddleboard for lazy drifting up the Frome.
If you do decide to drive, the fab beaches, countryside and attractions of Purbeck and West Dorset are a short distance away. There's also the birdwatching and nature spotting of the RSPB Arne nature reserve just south of Wareham; splendid old Corfe Castle a 10-minute drive from there, and a steam train from the castle surrounds to the seaside resort and sandy beach of Swanage. North of Swanage is the sandy National Trust-managed Studland Bay.
