  • Peaceful secluded park over a 30-acre wildlife haven
  • Bournemouth and Christchurch 20 minutes' drive
  • Woodlands walks, pitch and putt, library and boules all available
Spread over 30 acres of Dorset woodland, river, heathland and lakes, Back of Beyond meanders over countryside naturally inhabited by a wide variety of wildlife: look out for deer, squirrels, moles, rabbits and the soaring sights of birds including the resident woodpecker. The site is dog friendly too (apart from in one of the wildlife-laden accommodation areas) and there's a 10-acre woodland area set aside especially for canines. Restful pastimes include boules, woodland walks, and a five-acre nine-hole pitch and putt course among the squirrels, moles and rabbits (hire the necessary bits and pieces on site). Facilities here include heated toilet and shower blocks, a private disabled shower room, hairdryers, washing-up areas, a reception area, Monty's Bar and a shop. Essential supplies (food and beer) can be found at the two excellent pubs within walking distance; supermarkets, restaurants and two caravan and camping centres are within a few minutes by car.

What customers say

A peaceful, adults-only spot with spotless facilities & friendly staff. Spacious pitches, a great shop & Monty's Bar are highlights, with varied food trucks nightly. Dog-friendly woodland walks. WiFi can be spotty. Approach lane & occasional noise noted, but generally a tranquil stay.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Woodland walks for the dogs, large woodland area for dog walking . Only 10 min drive from a national park. Staff very friendly. Toilet blocks kept very clean. Variety of food vans in the evening . Highly recommend Fish and Chips on Wednesday evenings. Enjoyed our stay, would stay again.

Disliked Having to park your caravan to the left on each pitch.Meaning cars are parked in front of your caravan not down the side. Making it a bit congested.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you Graeme, good to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and would come back. Regarding the pitching on the left, this is to comply with fire regulations and there is plenty of space next to your van to park your car on the grass, you do not have to park it across the front. If you do visit us again, pop into reception and our staff will be happy to explain it to you.

Liked Gorgeous and extremely well run site. Super friendly staff. Spacious and well maintained bathrooms. Woodland walks on your doorstep. Monty's Bar open 4-8pm always has a lovely buzz. Different takeaway vans every night. Great mobile signal and wifi. 30 mins drive to loads of interesting places in the New Forest and Dorset. We also walked from the site up to Avon Heath County Park (took 45 mins) and Hurn Forest.

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review Lucy. It looks like you definitely made the most of your stay experiencing the lovely walks nearby. We hope to see you again soon.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite (pet friendly)

Liked Fantastic staff from start to finish, Lovely people and lots of dogs which our puppy spaniel loved. We loved the quite space on a beautiful pitch. we arrived and didn't leave until the last day. I could have stayed for longer. Great shop, Lovely coffee machine, great bar and lovely atmosphere for happy hour. Great idea with the food vans each evening which took the stress out of thinking about food. We loved our long dog walk in the woods every day. Just can not fault this campsite and can't wait to go back.

Astro Turf powered grass and gravel campervan or tent campsite

Liked Really great, clean shower and toilet facilities, decent washing up area, good free WiFi, friendly and helpful staff, well-stocked shop.

This campsite is perfect for people with caravans, motorhomes and dogs, who like to relax in the sun, have a drink at the on-site bar or jump in the car to visit nearby places like Bournemouth and Poole. However, if like us you prefer to pitch up and go for long walks in beautiful countryside straight from the site then this might not be the place for you (though there are short strolls on the site - around the small pretty lakes and a woodland area).

There are some very lovely pitches surrounded by trees and hedges but ours backed very closely to the pitches behind us without a hedge or fence to separate them and we felt like we didn’t have any privacy.

Generally we had a lovely stay at Back of Beyond but it’s not really for us.

Disliked Pitches too close together so no privacy.
Struggled to get tent pegs in - the astro turf was backed onto wooden board.
Not much to explore on foot straight from the site.
Too many dogs.
Very busy.

From the manager: Thank you for the review of our park. We really do appreciate it.
I am sorry we are not for you. The park is busy in August, as all parks should be, as it is the peak of the season. the park is quiet many other times of the year is Spring and Autumn so maybe that would have been a great time to visit us.
We do recommend on our pre arrival email to bring rock pegs for the pitches as the small wire tent pegs are not strong enough for the ground.
We are continuing to plant hedges on every pitch and all the astro pitches will have privacy this winter.
There are 4 large walking areas from our park that are listed on our website and we also have free flyers in the reception. I am sorry if you missed out on these.
Many thanks again.

Emma's Glade primitive grass campervan or tent campsite (no pets, wild)

Liked Well organised, with polite staff.
Very peaceful in the wild camping area.
Facilities are very good and well maintained.

Disliked If we are being picky, you can just hear the A31 road in the evening. But only just.

Route directions

Some guests have issues with the site address when put into some satnav devices. Please print out these directions and follow these when you are close to the site to ensure you find the site easily. From the north or east: From the M3, take J14 onto the M27 westbound and join the A31 (signposted Ringwood). Pass Ringwood; stay on the A31 to St. Leonards and pass St. Leonards Hotel on left. At the next roundabout (signed Boundary Lane), turn right into the site lane. Take care: this turn is set back from the roundabout by a few yards, so look for the site sign and one for Shamba. From the west: Follow the signs for Ringwood on the A31 eastbound. Pass The Woodman pub on your left. At the next roundabout go straight over and immediately left into the site lane. Drive straight down the lane, pass Shamba and go through the twin towers to the site barrier. When you arrive at the barrier system press the button for attention.
