  • Peaceful secluded park over a 30-acre wildlife haven
  • Bournemouth and Christchurch 20 minutes' drive
  • Woodlands walks, pitch and putt, library and boules all available
Spread over 30 acres of Dorset woodland, river, heathland and lakes, Back of Beyond meanders over countryside naturally inhabited by a wide variety of wildlife: look out for deer, squirrels, moles, rabbits and the soaring sights of birds including the resident woodpecker. The site is dog friendly too (apart from in one of the wildlife-laden accommodation areas) and there's a 10-acre woodland area set aside especially for canines. Restful pastimes include boules, woodland walks, and a five-acre nine-hole pitch and putt course among the squirrels, moles and rabbits (hire the necessary bits and pieces on site). Facilities here include heated toilet and shower blocks, a private disabled shower room, hairdryers, washing-up areas, a reception area, Monty's Bar and a shop. Essential supplies (food and beer) can be found at the two excellent pubs within walking distance; supermarkets, restaurants and two caravan and camping centres are within a few minutes by car.

What customers say

This adult-only site gets top marks for cleanliness, helpful staff, and spacious pitches. Guests love the great washrooms, popular bar, and food trucks. Dog walkers rave about the trails. While mostly quiet, some noted occasional traffic or neighbour noise. Wi-Fi can be spotty, and fire pits cost extra. Highly recommended with many wanting to return!

Liked Liked the large pitches , great bar , nice food , toilet block very clean , loved the dog walk

Disliked Hated the gravel/stones , 7am people walking back and forth on them woke me up each morning, also not great on my body walking on them wrecked me .

From the manager: Thank you so much for the 8/10 review. We are so pleased there was so much about the park you enjoyed. I am sorry you are not a fan of the gravel. It is local to the area and is part of the eco low impact nature for the forest area. We are not allowed by the local council, and rightly so, to tarmac or concrete large areas for walkways. The gravel is much more environmentally friendly for wildlife and the nature. Many thanks again.

Astro Turf powered cement/asphalt and grass campervan or tent campsite

Liked Everything!
We had a lovely quiet pitch in the camping area for our VW . It was perfect and very peaceful which is just what we were looking for. Toilet and shower blocks were immaculate and clean and the bar was also very good for an early drink.

Disliked Nothing!

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Wonderful greeting with everything explained very well, information also then given to us to read. Pitch was a great size, great washing facilities and loads of bathrooms and showers. Exceptionally clean site! Very friendly staff.

Disliked Not the managements fault but traffic noise was a little annoying; there must be a race track near by, although why they race late I do not know.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for the top score Kelly. We are very pleased your stay was so lovely and that you will be back.
There is a motor cross track about 4 miles away that they occasionally use for night meets. Not very regular but if the wind is in the wrong direction then we sometimes hear some back ground noise. I am sorry if this caused you any issues during your visit.

Primitive grass RV, tent or trailer tent campsite (pet friendly)

Liked Beautiful campsite and surroundings, spotless shower and toilet block, amazing attention to small details that make the stay very memorable. Very peaceful. Helpful and welcoming staff too.

Disliked The price for fire pit hire is £17 with eco logs and kindling or charcoal. Not extortionate given they deliver it to the pitch and you get a grill top included. It wasn't bad but not sure if watching "eco logs" burn is worth the money haha. I understand it's the national park policies though.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you Maarija for the review and your recommendation. With regard to fire pits. We have to follow very strict rules to allow their use, so we provide the accepted fire pit, kindling and 10kg bag of eco logs to the pitch for you. The logs flame and burn with great heat but don't spark so no risk of causing a forest fire. The first night is £17 including everything, The second and additional nights after that are only £3 a night.

Route directions

Some guests have issues with the site address when put into some satnav devices. Please print out these directions and follow these when you are close to the site to ensure you find the site easily. From the north or east: From the M3, take J14 onto the M27 westbound and join the A31 (signposted Ringwood). Pass Ringwood; stay on the A31 to St. Leonards and pass St. Leonards Hotel on left. At the next roundabout (signed Boundary Lane), turn right into the site lane. Take care: this turn is set back from the roundabout by a few yards, so look for the site sign and one for Shamba. From the west: Follow the signs for Ringwood on the A31 eastbound. Pass The Woodman pub on your left. At the next roundabout go straight over and immediately left into the site lane. Drive straight down the lane, pass Shamba and go through the twin towers to the site barrier. When you arrive at the barrier system press the button for attention.
