  • Fishery-based site on the edge of the stunningly scenic Dorset Downs
  • Half an hour from the sandy beaches of the Jurassic Coast
  • Large tackle shop and plenty of onsite fishing waters to choose from
Hoping for a quiet and peaceful countryside retreat close to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty? Revels Fishery – a family-friendly site less than five minutes’ drive from the Dorset village of Middlemarsh – will tick all your boxes. Though the site’s also open to guests who aren’t interested in casting a line, it’s simply a dream for angling fans: there are seven fishing waters on site where perch, tench, barbel, carp, catfish, bream and chub are plentiful, and a large tackle shop is just an added lure. The site’s also well-placed for rambling excursions through the Dorset Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the scenic Dorset countryside. There are loads of bridleways and footpaths to follow right from the site, and walking fuel is a cinch round here too: nab some fresh eggs from the resident chickens and ducks in the morning and boil them up for mid-hike energy boosts. Not much of a hiker or biker? Head into Middlemarsh to clamber aboard the village’s bus service to Dorchester, Sherborne or (and?) Yeovil for historical sights, shopping and local eats, or just chill on site instead, soaking up the views of the fishing waters and Blackmore Vale.

Power optional grass and earth campsite

Liked We liked everything there! The place is so nice and silent. Fishing lakes make it more cosy and exceptional. Very polite owners.
There is an old farm on site, where you can look at chickens, ducks, turkey, horses, and cats. Children love them. Toilet, shower, washing up facilities were on site, and everything was clean. Location is very comfortable with 15min driving to Dorchester.

Disliked Local shop could be maybe a bit bigger, but I bet that owners know their demand and keep everything what is the most important.

Very friendly helpful site, such a huge number of lakes to choose…

Power optional grass and earth campsite

Liked We loved our stay here, very friendly staff, lots of room and a choice of pitch. It might be a bit different if it was busier but we were lucky and got first pick of the electric pitches.
Basic toilet, shower and washing up facilities, they were clean and they do the job so no complaints there.
The real gem of this site are the fishing lakes and the tackle shop. So many lakes to choose from and one that is dedicated for residents only so was nice and quiet when the others got busy. The Tackle shop was one of the best stocked we've seen and the prices were so reasonable.
Overall we loved our stay here and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Great value site to visit out of season. Staff friendly.

Primitive grass and earth campsite

Liked Plenty of space allowed per pitch. Lovely countryside and great fishing lakes. Really good price for Dorset. Great that you can arrive and leave when you're ready. Basic facilities but clean and functional. Will definitely go back.

Disliked No local shop for basics. Site quite small and has no shaded spots. Wouldn't take much to become packed.

From the manager: Thank you for your review and welcome back anytime. Ill just address couple of points in case they were missed in the back of the largw fishing shop we do have a small area for essentials that are always available in shop hours that i think you missed i.e Milk, Butter, Eggs from our chickens, Bacon, Bread, drinks, crisps, chocolate, ice creams and a few tinned items like beans. Otherwise village shop is 2-3 miles away. You are able to pitch anywhere in the camp field and there is a large conifer hedge through the middle that offers a lot of shade but rarely do people pitch up that side as most want the sun. Also yes we are a small site that is how we like it and only book through this site and limited to 15 pitches we could fit more in and still have room but we like our limit of 15 so never any reason to be packed.

Power optional grass and earth campsite

Liked Helpful and informative staff, peaceful and well presented.

Disliked Only real negative I would say is that the road up to the shop and campsite is not particularly suited to low vehicles as it is uneven.

Nice budget site could do with some updating

Power optional grass and earth campsite

Liked Another fantastic weekend at this awesome little hideaway, this is our 8th visit in a year, the fishing is 2nd to none and the staff here is what makes it even better , jason and Julian in the shop are so helpful on fishing tactics and what lakes are fishing the best. My wife fished a 4 metre whip ( bought from the onsite shop) and she had endless action catching fish all morning, ignore the negativity and get yourselves to this 8 lake venue for half the price for what u pay a bit further down the road . We have already booked to go again next weekend

Disliked Would be great if they sold their own cider 😄

Local attractions

If standing on the shoulders of giants has always appealed, make immediate tracks for Cerne Abbas, a small village 10 minutes’ drive from the site. As well as pubs serving local beers, the village has access to a National Trust trail leading up to the Cerne Abbas (very anatomically correct) giant. When 17th-century hill figures simply won’t satisfy history cravings, head instead for Minterne House and Gardens, five minutes from base. The house itself may be closed to casual visitors, but wandering the Capability Brown-style Himalayan gardens should more than make up for that – and the house itself is certainly pretty enough from the outside to warrant repeated gazes on strolls. Plenty else by way of history is within easy reach – the Fleet Air Arm Museum, Hayes International Motor Museum and the Tank Museum are all within 35 minutes – but taking time to explore nearby towns is a must. Dorchester (15 minutes) is a particular treat, with roman remains, Terracotta warriors, a Tutankhamun exhibition and Thomas Hardy’s birthplace to visit, but the markets, castles and abbey of Sherborne (15 minutes), and the railway centre, toy museum and Montacute House in Yeovil (25 minutes), are also worthy of car trips. Days on the sand might be all anyone needs on hols, though, so luckily it’s only 30 minutes to the famed Jurassic Coast and to seaside towns like Weymouth, where the lengthy Chesil beach, massive sand sculptures and harbour fort all await.
