  • Family-friendly north Devon holiday park with lots of activities
  • Under two miles from Woolacombe; Combe Martin 15 minutes
  • Surf machines, bungee trampoline, climbing wall, bowling and sauna
Join the thousands of sheep that flock to Woolacombe for the annual ovine hairdressing championships, with a trip to the green and pleasant gardens of the Golden Coast Holiday Village. Visitors have access to masses of activities on site, from the pumped up (cycling, tennis, water flumes, four indoor and outdoor swimming pools), to the more leisurely (bowling, fishing, pitch and putt, sauna and solarium). Although there’s no shortage of mod cons, the site retains an old-school charm, not least thanks to its Old Mill Inn, which has been keeping people fed and watered since the seventeenth century. In the evenings, guests can chill out and enjoy the valley views, grab a pint in the sports bar, or enjoy entertainment including game shows, family discos, tribute bands, comedians and illusionists. 'Messy mayhem' is promised at the various kids’ clubs for all age groups, and the little sprouts should have a fine time on the bungee trampoline and climbing wall; parents can confirm that their offspring actually do walk on water as they take to the inflatable human hamster balls in the pool, or show off their board skills on the Wavesurfer artificial surf machine. For a pit stop, try creating a family heirloom over a cuppa at the ceramic-painting café.

Liked The swimming pools are lovely and looked after well. For us it seemed more effort and maintenance was put into the entertainment facilities than the park itself. The shower/toilet amenities were always clean the odd shower you had to push the button every 2 seconds but avoided that one after first us. They could do with a hairdryer in there though.
The reception and touring staff were helpful when we needed to move. Shoutout to Chris on the touring pitch gates that checked in with us everyday.

Disliked We had to change pitch when we got there as where they sent us to there was no was we could fit caravan/awning and a car on the pitch (supposedly supersized pitch) also where they put us was by a group of people that as soon as we arrived asked to buy our caravan and car. This did not make us feel safe at all as a young family. We moved pitch to the bay and this made us feel a lot more safe. The touring pitches are like a gravel car park, not maintained well. Broken wood edges around the pitch. We had a fully serviced pitch all the services were in the middle of the pitch so still had to use our waste master as the pipes would not reach to the drain. Most of the gravel has dispersed into the track you drive up so lots of dust and stones flying around when you/people drive up through.
Not much greenery, gravel and tarmac everywhere.
I even seen one of the toilet cleaner staff wash the mop off in the plate wash where campers wash up their plates/cups very unhygienic 🤢

Local attractions

Venture out and you’ll find loads to see and do in this part of North Devon. Clamber down the steep cobbledy streets to the fishing boats at the fourteenth-century quay in Clovelly (50 minutes' drive), or pay a visit to Barnstaple Pannier Market (25 minutes) to browse the local foodstuffs, arts and crafts, and antiques. Watermouth Castle (15 minutes) has dungeon labyrinths and a gnome land (anyone who thinks this sounds like the stuff of nightmares will be pacified by the dreamy views…). Nature lovers might enjoy an outing to the wilderness of Exmoor National Park to spot wild deer and ponies, choosing spots like the ruggedly gorgeous Valley of the Rocks (35 minutes) for wild goats and fossil hunting. For other days out, the kids can come face-to-leg with scarily lifelike dinosaurs and go swimming with sea lions at Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park (15 minutes), or just get spaced out by the rides at The Milky Way Adventure Park (45 minutes).
