View down the valley towards Dartmoor
Surrounded by devon countryside.
Amazing sunset views
Tranquil countryside on edge of torquay. a short hop to the sea.

  • Relaxed and spacious site with views towards Dartmoor
  • Within easy reach of Torbay's beaches and Dartmoor National Park
  • Paignton Zoo, aquarium, seaside towns and more a short drive away
For a sweet-as break on a working farm, head to family-friendly Treacle Valley Campsite in the tiny village of Daccombe, between Dartmoor National Park to the west and more than 20 English Riviera beaches towards the east. This is a top spot for all ages: kids will be kept occupied at the play area or on all the wide open space around the accommodation area, and walks to the village through the surrounding countryside start right from the pitches. Treacle Valley's café/shop stocks all the basics you might need while you're on your hols, and provides a handy and free freezer block service in case you want to pack up a hamper with bubbly (possibly accompanied by a few sandwiches) and head out for the day. When you get hungry you're more than welcome to fire up the barbie or cook up something tasty over your campfire – for anything more substantial, head into one of the nearby seaside towns for supermarkets, seafood restaurants, fish and chip takeaways and posh pub grub. The nearest pub is a 20-minute walk away.

What customers say

This family-friendly campground offers great countryside views & a relaxed vibe. Guests love the friendly staff, clean facilities & choice of spots. Fire pits are a hit! While the location & value are praised, some noted uneven ground, noise & a steep access road. Many want to come back.

Bell tent

Liked This was our second year staying at treacle valley for the English riviera air show, this year we booked a bell tent for an easier set up.
We were sent an image of the tent prior to arrival and it was ready nearly 2 hours early, which was handy as we were only a few mins away so allowed us to set up and spend the evening out! The tent was clean and smelt fresh. The whole site is on a slope other than a few areas, but this gives beautiful views across the valley, and a lovely sunset! The site was quiet, clean (mostly!) and well maintained. The staff were super friendly and welcoming and we were pleased to realize they sold proper coffee in the mornings! Unsure how we missed this last year!
The site is fantastic location for local amenities, beautiful beaches and a great stop for the air show. There are multiple supermarkets/small shops less than 8 minute drive away, and you can be from tent to beach within 15 minutes via car! Our 7 year old enjoyed the little play park and it was a good way for her to make friends. We will be back and would love to stay in the horsebox next time!

Disliked The bin area was very full and quite messy and used sanitary products were just left on the floor in the bathroom- but really this was an issue from other people not respecting the site not the site itself. It’s just something to consider with the site being unmanned most of the time, other peoples behaviour can effect your stay. but you can tell when staff have been because the place is lovely and tidy!

Bell tent

Liked Just got back from a brilliant trip, 5 nights over the May half term, beautiful view its a working farm so you get to wake up to chickens, cows and sheep and the tractor which is not loud, its really nice. We stayed in the yurt, it got hot through the heatwave but a welcomed breeze at night as we were on a hill plus we were out all day. Local shops not far, if driving very easy to get every where, loads of big shops lidl, aldi, home bargains, morrisons etc. we walked a few times and got buses which were about 15min walk you have to go up a hill (31 bus for torquay, golden road avenue takes cash and card). Theres is also the coastal walk too so pack walking shoes or comfy trainers. Shop on site only open in the morning, but we didn't use as we brought everything with us, clean loos and showers, plug socket in ladies above mirror. Kitchen washing at the back and on the right side of the building there is laundry and phone charging facilities. Bins to the right side, Hosts were amazing. Overall a beautiful spacious sight with amazing views. 👏 oh and free WiFi on site too

Disliked No option for electric, but I really didnt mind if it's a priority go somewhere else. Charged my fridge and phone in the van.

Roof tent primitive grass campsite

Liked The views on this site were amazing. The facilities are modern and clean.

They have a small shop in the reception and they serve coffee, tea and snacks.

I wish we would have known that on the first day.

I would love to come here again.

Local attractions

For stuff to do nearby, try a visit to the historic village of Cockington, three miles away, where there's a manor house and a cricket ground plus some 16th-century thatched stone cottages and a traditional pub serving cream teas. The award-winning caves of Kents Cavern – once home to prehistoric humans – are also within easy reach of Treacle Valley; this subterranean network lies close to some spectacularly scenic coastal areas with several walking routes along Torbay's UNESCO Global Geopark – one of only seven in the UK. A walk around Babbacombe coves and cliffs begins at Anstey's Cove (opposite Kents Cavern), to wind its way along a scenic track and bring you out into the pretty village of Babbacombe in Torquay; take a ride on the famed Babbacombe Cliff Railway, then follow up with a wander around four acres of award-winning gardens showcasing hundreds of model scenes and railways at Babbacombe Model Village. Take the kids on an animal adventure at Paignton Zoo (20 minutes) or visit the seaside towns of Torquay (15 minutes), Paignton (20 minutes), Brixham (half an hour), Shaldon (15 minutes) or Teignmouth (20 minutes) for miniature golf, arcades, ice cream shops and beaches.
