  • Family-run site on the outskirts of Dartmoor National Park
  • Just over 10 minutes’ drive to Newton Abbot and 30 to Torquay beaches
  • Bovey Tracey within 15 minutes and Paignton half an hour away
For a hol full of zest in south Devon squeeze in some time at family-run Lemonford Caravan Park, a well-located spot for exploring the many attractions in this area. It’s between country and coast right on the edge of Dartmoor National Park and half an hour’s drive from the beaches around the English Riviera resorts of Torquay and Paignton. After settling in, trekkers might want to tackle the craggy terrain of Dartmoor first, scrambling over the hills and paddling in the streams and rivers of this sprawling granite-studded setting. The walk up to Hay Tor (starting from just over 10 minutes’ drive away) is stellar if you’re seeking a structured stroll: it’ll have you taking in the classic moorland scenery while you work up a sweat. Widecombe in the Moor (a 15-minute drive) is also worth stopping by for a typical Devonshire town with a cracker of a church (so splendid it's known as the Cathedral of the Moor). More of a beachcomber? You can make a beeline towards Teignmouth and Dawlish for castle-building on the sand or choose Paignton Pier for coastal sessions in between tenpin bowling, fairground rides and crazy golf (all around 30 minutes’ drive away). Leaflets for farm parks, model villages, caves and other stuff to do are all on display at the site’s information area if you’ll be looking for more attractions and activities. Also at Lemonford Caravan Park are amenities including toilets, showers, washing-up areas, a shared freezer and a laundry room; a spacious separate wetroom and toilet are also available for guests with limited mobility. For other essentials like supermarkets and town shops, Newton Abbot (just over 10 minutes away) is your hub and it has a leisure centre should kids be wanting to swap sessions on the park playground for splashing in a swimming pool.

What customers say

Mixed reviews here. Cleanliness, especially washrooms, and site maintenance are recurring issues, with bins overflowing and supplies lacking. Noise and overcrowding are common. While some staff are helpful, others aren't. Some recent positive feedback about improvements under new management exists, but recent August reviews indicate a return to negativity regarding cleanliness, security, and unwelcoming conditions. Many advise avoiding.

Liked Leaving

Disliked Arrived on site and felt very uncomfortable from the off. Kept driving round to try and find where we were meant to pitch. We couldn't get through because the road was blocked by a number of toys in the way.
Left the site immediately. Left very nervous and unsettled. Reached out to cancel the booking and requested a refund. No one has made contact. Found another lovely camp site a couple of miles away. The site information us the camp site we left was due to be raided and shouldn't be operating.

Liked It’s close to some nice campsites to stay at, go to Teign Valley Campsite or Ashbourne Woods instead. Do NOT stay here

Disliked Absolutely awful place. Left within 30 minutes of arriving. Thankfully only a 15 minute drive to another lovely site (Teign Valley Campsite, I’d advise everyone to go there instead)

I have stayed all over the UK and Europe as far east as Hungary, never have I been somewhere I felt I had to leave immediately.

This, as someone else mentioned is clearly a travellers site, whilst inherently there is nothing wrong with that, I would not advise staying. I showered and left immediately.

-On arrival there were children screaming at each other, whilst another continuously honked a car horn
-Had a shower where I heard someone spit on the floor outside my cubicle
-Shower had broken tiles
-Roofing vans and white vans driving around the site with dance music blasting at full volume
-Non stop shouting
-Rubbish and general crap all over the place
-Generally felt uncomfortable for the entire 30 minute stay, the entire environment felt off

Truth told, there are some amazing sites within 15 minutes of here, just book at one of them instead, Teign Valley Campsite is cheaper and well kept, relaxed, in a beautiful location. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

This campsite should not be available to book on Pitchup, I have lost trust in this website following this. The campsite should be removed immediately.

Liked Very large pitches nicely done with modern brick hard standing and boarders with shrubs on 3 sides plus a picnic bench on each pitch.

Disliked I didn’t use the facilities myself but my husband did and said the was only one loo roll in one of the gents toilets he said they weren’t the best but had seen far worse. The chemical waste could of been better but it did the job.Of an evening we got about three times the smell of cannabis and again in the morning which really isn’t a very nice smell to put up with.

Liked Nothing

Disliked Drive into what was clearly a traveller / traveller run site. The camping pitch looked terrible as well as broken toys everywhere and generally felt unclean and unsafe. We we drove straight back out again and stayed at the Dartmoor half way inn around 5 minutes away. Highly recommend the Dartmoor halfway inn if you make the mistake of booking Lemonford

Liked Location to parks beach town shops not over the top on rules left alone to do your own thing. Staff friendly enough to help you settle in.

Disliked Water points some not working would be nice to wash hands after emptying caravan loo. Shower blocks toilets not the best needs work and cleaning and doors putting back on. No shop no play park. Lots of roof tiles and building site waste dumped in long piles not fenced off dangerous

Liked Absolutely nothing.

Disliked Campsite is a complete sh!t hole.
Rubish every where. Water bottles, crisp bags , dirty child nappies...and so on, completely disgusting 🤮🤮🤮 You'll have to clean you pitch before putting your tent up.
Shower and toilets Facilities disgusting, again, rubish and dirty, used sooks and underwear everywhere, it was only clean once in 3 days...
Ppl shouting and playing loud music until midnight. Feral kids trowing crap and fighting all the time. Electric hook up on my pitch was lose from the stand and live wires exposed just waiting for someone to touch them and get electrocuted.
Close to main road, so very very noisy all night.
Honestly just don't go.
Worse campsite I have been 🤢🤮🤢🤮

Local attractions

It’s 10 minutes’ drive from here to Buckfast Abbey, an active Benedictine monastery dating back to 1018; get cultural here then balance it out with an offbeat activity like a trip to the House of Marbles in the small town of Bovey Tracey (under 15 minutes away) for the mesmerising glass displays, games museum and pottery pieces. For urban times in a bigger settlement, Exeter’s 30 minutes away – skedaddle here to tour the cathedral and the city centre’s underground passages; high-street shopping is also excellent in Devon’s capital on the River Exe. Also on the water, Plymouth is 35 minutes south if you fancy checking out the famed spot where the Pilgrim fathers first left for the US on the Mayflower in 1620...
