  • Family-friendly park 10 minutes' drive from Newquay
  • Covering 56 acres including a dedicated dog area
  • Pool, play zones, clubhouse and fish and chip takeaway
There’ll be plenty of time for monkey business in this family-friendly site… Surrounded by a whopping 56 acres of countryside and a fab place for taking toddlers, Monkey Tree Holiday Park is 10 minutes from Perranporth and its huge open beach, as well as the lively surf centre of Newquay. As you might already (luckily) know, the north coast of Cornwall is tiptop for beaches – Newquay's famed for its world-class waves and heady nightlife, while Perranporth has kayaking and hovercrafting to get adventurously stuck into, and top-notch coastal walks on either side of the beach. Back at base, catch a few pages of your book while the kids splash about in the outdoor heated pool complex… or while they join in with the packed entertainment schedule for juniors (there's a talented in-house entertainment team on hand with a daily kids' club and Funky Monkey putting in a regular appearance). On top of that, a maze of net walkways, slides and ball pools means that younger guests will have plenty to keep them entertained, whatever the weather. Food's sorted with the on-site clubhouse and restaurant, and fish and chip takeaway (fish and chips + seaside = essential). Or fire up the barbecue instead: hit up the camp store for the essentials, or head to the grocery store 10 minutes away.

Liked Pool facilities were great on sunny days! Children loved it at the pool. Big pitch space but only a hedge separating people behind you on next row which was close. Fresh water available and shower block/washing up close to pitches. Staff friendly and helpful! Evening entertainment looked good and popular, not our thing but great for others. Close to beaches and centre shops, supermarket etc 15 min drive. Shop on site had ok variety but quite expensive as expected on all site shops. Pastries available in shop, red Thai chicken one was delicious. Pizza deck pizzas were lovely too. Crazy golf, park and sand pit great for kids too. Arcade decent size, even won a teddy out of a grab machine.

Disliked People were noisy late at night, drinking and partying at their tents which woke our children on a few of the nights, pitches behind separated by a hedge so they were very close could even hear snoring, ear plugs needed if you want to go to sleep before 1/2am, again this will depend on who was staying on site at the time. Although showerblocks were cleaned regularly, saw cleaners in there often, if you go to the toilet early morning or later on in evening they aren’t great, muddy and sandy, sanitary wrappers thrown around and out of toilet roll. One morning went in at 7:30 and all the soap dispensers etc had been pulled off and vandalised, guess it depends who is staying on site at the time though! WiFi didn’t reach pitch we were on (ash) and phone signal wasn’t great which was a shame as wanted to watch Netflix once children went to bed.

Liked The pool and outdoor areas were nice.

Disliked The shower and toilet facilities were not clean and not enough to cater for the volume of people on site - our block had 2 showers and 3 toilets which appeared to cater for around 20-30 pitches! They were not clean and could do with being modernised to include hair dryers or sockets to allow you to plug in a hair dryer etc - lots of sites offer this now and for the price paid I’d expect it. The access to buses wasn’t great - although their is a bus stop at the main entrance; the bus we had to get back dropped us off on the main road and we had to walk back to site via a road without footpaths which isn’t great for a small child. Downside to the pool is non swimmers being restricted to the shallow end - although our child can’t swim, we are trying to build his confidence and show him how to cope in deeper water - we should be allowed to look after our own child in the pool how we choose too…

Liked The pitch was very spacious and we were close to the toilet & shower facilities
which was great with a toddler.
The childrens entertainment was lovely, my daughter thoroughly enjoyed herself.
The parks, swimming pool, soft play, mini golf and rides in the evenings were wonderful. These were by far the best bits.
We were close to local towns and other activities which was great with a toddler. You didn't have to travel far to explore.
There were plenty of food options which was nice and all good tasted great. Maybe put grated cheese on the chips instead of runny burger cheese.
The evening entertainment was great. You had a mix of children and adult. A nice mix of different acts aswell.
Very good value for money overall.

Disliked Unfortunately it was quite an unclean site. The bins were always over spilled. A constant smell of blocked drain and there was a large amount of dog poo on site.
There were a lot of children going to the bathroom outside in amongst families playing and mingling. I understand there are times when children are desparate but when you have a 9+ year old weeing on the grass next to the bench his family are sat on, it's quite off putting.
A lot of children were being unsafe, climbing on areas that were not permitted.

Liked Lovely staff, beautiful surroundings, great location. Pool is stunning and staff are on the ball to ensure safety.

We didn’t use the bar, visit the entertainment or the arcades so cannot comment on these but did see that there is entertainment advertised each evening and throughout the day.

Disliked The temperature of the showers as they are not adjustable. Even in the accessible room they are so so hot that washing our baby was a safety hazard! We did highlight this to the reception but it remained unchanged.

Local attractions

Cornwall’s coastline and beaches are pretty much legendary, but Newquay (10 minutes) is world-famed for its surf and nightlife too. It’s a party town from daybreak until well after dark and the surf's so good they hold international competitions here – check out Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay. Perranporth (10 minutes) is the place to head for a more relaxed beach day, though it’s very popular so best to get your towel down early. The beach here is a fab spot for dog walking, rolling up the trousers for a paddle or lazing around and copping a look at the views. The Eden Project (35 minutes) has the UK’s most realistic rainforest, full of rare plant species and exotic butterflies, as well as a pretty nifty Mediterranean biome. Daredevils can also have a go on England’s longest zipwires – or head over to Flambards in Helston (45 minutes) for flumes, rollercoasters and go karting.
