  • Family-friendly site in the grounds of a New Forest activity centre
  • A 15-minute drive from Beaulieu; 20 from Exbury Gardens
  • Climbing wall and archery on site; 10 minutes' walk from a station
Forest rangers and active champs – here's a tried and tested site for you. New Forest locals and visitors have got up to all manner of open-air action at Tile Barn Outdoor Centre since it opened in the early 1970s. Set on the edge of the peaceful village of Brockenhurst, the site is a fab launchpad for those looking to get out and about in the New Forest National Park. This spacious 14-acre site has well-maintained facilities like loos, hot showers and a washing-up area, all of which can be reached via an accessible and well-lit path. There’s also a secure entrance gate with a key code, meaning you can relax and play in these green surrounds with extra peace of mind. On top of all that, there's a winning line-up of adventurous activities here, with climbing and archery often available – drop by for a chat with the friendly folk at reception to check what's on offer during your stay. The site is an easy 15-minute stroll from Brockenhurst village centre; the village doesn't have a cattle grid, so it's the kind of place where you may well see donkeys and cows wandering around. Watch them take a dip at the ford while you head to the supermarket to stock up, or treat yourself to a sticky bun from the bakery. A railway station with services to Lymington, Bournemouth, Southampton and London is a 10-minute walk away from base.

What customers say

Visitors love the views, staff, and pod concept with shared spaces. Great for kids to run around and explore the New Forest. Downsides: washroom cleanliness, noise from others, sometimes felt staff were absent. Solar power for pods was spotty, but being fixed. Some missed on-site activities and a playground.

Ready tent (five person)

Liked Friendly campers, shower and toilet facilities well maintained. Site was clean and ready tents were clean, and decent sized. Very standard camp, but an easy enjoyable stay near some lovely beautiful surroundings.

Disliked Noisy road behind our field, up to very late at night, staff not sure when activities would be on, nothing on during bank holiday weekend at all which was a shame as was one of the key reasons for booking this site. Fire pits I felt were a lot of money, £20 a night is insane to me for a barrel.. But alas, next time we will bring our own.

Camping pod

Liked The local area, the fridges / microwave, toilets before they were filthy and out of toilet paper.

Disliked The pre-erected tents are too close together for comfort, suitable for a school trip - not for families to be side by side.

The bathrooms were filthy in the morning - says more about the other campers than the site.

No monitoring of noise at night, or adherence to quiet hours.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great location! Huge area although we did have bit of a cut through on pitch 09 but once tents were up it stopped. Great facilities for shower really warm and reasonably clean and tidy, grass on floor but I guess to be expected. The kettle facility is perfect for morning coffee without having to fire up the BBQ again so close to leaving. It's great that you facilitate BBQ on stands we love making our S'mores was a perfect evening. We would stay again.

Disliked EV charge point wasn't working, it was suggested to use the EV at The Huntsman which I booked for breakfast but unfortunately they did not have the correct charge head for my car, luckily managed to get back home with enough charge.
On site restaurant and bar would be an added facility.

Camping pod

Liked We had a fantastic time with 2 adults and 2 children (aged 2.5 and 5 years). The site had fantastic amenities and the location was perfect for New Forest walks and close to the centre of Brockenhurst. The pods were simple but just what we needed to ensure a comfortable stay

Camping pod

Liked Lovely weekend in the new forest. Great location and facilities.
Pod was perfect for the 3 of us for a long weekend trip. Having the fields for kids to play in and the selection of activities kept them entertained

Camping pod

Liked Location was great, easy to get to and find. There was lots to do around the site. The pods were cute and the kids loved the field space. Which was helped because there were not too many tents.

Disliked The pictures showed all the activities that were avaliable but we couldn't use any of them which was a disappointment. The playground in the pics were not. If it had not been for the lack of tents I'm not sure the kids were have enjoyed it as much.
The rules around the unloading and loading area were not enforced, so cars had parked in this area and along the sides making this process hard work and even got blocked in when unloading and had to find owners to move cars so we could take the car back to right space.
The shower area was cleaned at lunchtime only, which meant the bins were overflowing by the next morning. We were unlucky in one sense as once the showers had been cleaned the large group staying came back from their swim and the showers were covered in sand and stayed that way. Made it unpleasant.

Local attractions

Most folk visiting this spot will find a fair few things to do on site, but when you do decide to venture off you'll be out in the gorgeous open forest in no time. For riverside rambles, pack a picnic and head for the path from Beaulieu to Buckler's Hard (15 minutes' drive), a gentle stroll through varied New Forest countryside that joins up these two stonkingly scenic settings. After watching waders from riverside bird hides or heading out on a boat cruise from Buckler's Hard pier, make tracks back to Beaulieu and check out the National Motor Museum and its splendid cars and motorcycles. This place is more than just a collection of auto memorabilia (although there's plenty here if that's your thing) – visitors can also ride a monorail, traipse through the ruins of Beaulieu Abbey or take tours around plush Palace House. Also about are Hurst Castle Spit (20 minutes), a striking seaside spot with a Napoleonic fortress at the end, and Exbury Gardens (20 minutes), an exquisite 200-acre woodland that you can take in on foot or from a nifty narrow-gauge railway.
