  • Well-maintained and quiet West Yorkshire family site in Ripponden
  • A 20-minute drive to Halifax, and 25 minutes to Hebden Bridge
  • Pubs, takeaways, supermarket and farm shop within five minutes’ walk
Chasing a bit of West Yorkshire peace and quiet, but still wanting lots to do? Riverside Glamping and Caravan Park is a clever spot to consider, as it’s in a peaceful hillside spot on the edge of Ripponden, yet still near sports fields, walking routes and cycling trails – and Leeds and Manchester are both under an hour’s drive away if you’re craving some big-city action (or looking for a quick escape from such). Tucked among the woodland and meadows, well-maintained modern facilities at the site include a communal shower block, washing-up facilities and waste disposal. You can also deal with any dirty clothes at the launderette (five minutes’ walk). Chores sorted, there's all sorts of stuff to do right next door. Play tennis and bowls, and give kids the chance to kick a ball around Mill Fold Park and Playground or watch them practise their moves at the skatepark. Ripponden (five minutes’ walk) is the springboard to walking and mountain-biking routes, and there’s coarse and fly fishing on the River Ryburn for anglers. The village is also well endowed with local supermarkets, a farm shop and a choice of Indian takeaways, pizzerias and homely pubs. Dogs are very welcome at Riverside, by the way, but please clean up after them. This is a quiet site, so you'll also be asked to keep noise levels to a minimum after 10pm.

What customers say

A well-kept, peaceful campsite by a river, near Ripponden. Praised for clean amenities, friendly owners, and good transport. Level pitches, some with water taps. Note: tricky to find, limited washrooms causing queues, some hardstanding pitches narrow/hard ground.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Excellent location, great walk straight from site along the river or into town. Nice peaceful site, basic and fairly small but we had a fully serviced hard standing pitch with plenty of space for our awning and space around us. There are two shower rooms, each with a toilet, sink and shower. Electric showers but very powerful and easy to adjust. Washing up area was basic. Friendly Warden on site who met us on arrival.

Liked Quiet, peaceful. Clean and tidy. Great location. Plenty of things to do around. The dog loved it, close walk to the high street.

Disliked Regularly had to wait to use the toilet as there are only two and they are linked to the showers therefore you have to wait for people to stop showering which can take a while.

Liked Beautiful little site ... perfect location for walks and visiting nearby villages
Pub 5mins walk does great meals at reasonable prices
Our dog loved the river walk and enjoyed his morning dips
Will definitely be returning at some point in the future

Disliked No one to greet us or contact on arrival so we just pitched up and hoped we didn't get moved . We don't mind no contact bookings as long as we know beforehand, so maybe add that to upon arrival instructions to save confusion?

Powered grass campsite

Liked Beautiful location right at the foot of the Pennines.
Quiet small site with nice pitch size.
Clean showers & toilets.

Disliked Stony pitch made it slightly hard to pitch the tent - good pegs required.

Hot water tap not working at washing up sink - dripped constantly as hard for people to turn on & off - had to get up in middle of night to turn it off as our pitch was right next to it.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Small, very quiet and great location for exploring Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Haworth, etc.

Very spacious and clean toilet/shower rooms. Good washing up facilities.

Nice to have the gentle sound of the beck nearby to send us to sleep.

Even better if: although not essential, as we’re in a tent, a freezer facility for ice blocks would be amazing.

Local attractions

Walkers, get ready to go. Grab your hiking boots and stride out across the Beacon Hill Romulus to see the peaks of former volcanoes, stroll across the dam at Ryburn Reservoir (both five minutes’ drive) or hike up to the landmark Stoodley Pike (35 minutes) to admire Calderdale views from the monument. For a taster of Yorkshire’s industrial past, walks at National Trust-owned Hardcastle Crags (half an hour) take in former cotton mills and workers’ cottages. Keen to be out exploring on two wheels? Cyclists are just as well catered for, so try the looped trails on rugged moorland or head up to Hebden Bridge (25 minutes) and follow the towpath along Rochdale Canal for gentle family bike rides. Keep the kids entertained with immersive experiments and themed activities Eureka! The National Children’s Museum in Halifax (20 minutes), or spend some time browsing unusual boutiques at the monumental 18th-century Piece Hall – it’s also a lively centre for concerts and seasonal events so check to see what’s on before you go.
