What customers say

A friendly, peaceful farm campsite with lovely scenery & animals. Praised for level pitches, clean facilities & great value. Perfect for walks & pubs, with popular hot tubs/fire pits. Some road noise & facilities across the road, but overall highly rated. Many will return.

Meadow View shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked I loved hot tub. I loved it was beside farm animals. I liked the peaceful scenery. The owner was very helpful and always there to answer queries. I liked I had my own space where my dogs were away from others.

Meadow View shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked Shepherds hut was cosy, clean and comfortable with a woodfired hot tub which we loved using. The setting is beautiful and overlooks rolling fields. Friendly and helpful farm owner/manager. Getting visited by the local animal community including cows, donkeys and a squirrel was an added bonus! Will definitely come back.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Nice countryside location, short walk to shop, pubs and cafe. Pitches very generous, pick your own spot. Lovely to be able to have a camp fire! Quiet, a little road noise but not obtrusive. Loved the cows and donkeys! Facilities basic but adequate (plenty of hot water). Would stay again.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Local attractions

This is a great area to explore for those with an interest in history – you’ll get a real feel for times gone by if you pack in outings to Cannon Hall Museum, Park and Gardens (10 minutes’ drive), the National Coal Mining Museum for England (20 minutes) and the excellent Elsecar Heritage Centre (20 minutes), where you can see craft workshops, old ironworks and a steam railway. If you’d like to take in more of the area’s lovely views, head to Holmfirth (20 minutes), the epicentre of a network of great walking routes, or take a stroll around Wentworth Castle Gardens (10 minutes). For more of a challenge, it’s a half-hour drive to Bleaklow mountain; meanwhile, for a much easier ride, it’s 20 minutes to Kirklees Light Railway. And if your rural outing isn’t complete without some cute furry animals to coo over, you’ll need a trip to Cannon Hall Farm (10 minutes), which has an adventure playground and farm shop as well as lots of new farmyard friends to meet.
