  • No-frills Northumberland camping with views of Alnwick Castle
  • Five minutes’ drive from Alnwick Castle and 20 minutes from Cragside
  • Off-grid farm site with an honesty shop and livestock all around
Roll up all you Harry Potter fans – now you can embark on a camping adventure with views of Alnwick Castle, where so many scenes from the famous film franchise were shot. Set on a three-acre field, Heckley Farm Camping is a laidback, off-grid sort of a place, with a very limited number of spacious grass pitches on a working Northumberland farm. To the west of the field, a large beech hedge provides shelter from the prevailing westerly wind. Wherever you pitch on the field, you’ll be surrounded by wildlife; you can expect to see some of the barn owls, buzzards, hares and deer that live around the farm. The surrounding land is a mixture of cattle and arable farming, and you’re sure to meet the two pet pigs as well as some very friendly and free-range hens – you can buy their eggs for breakfast and pop the money in the site’s honesty box. As this is pretty much wild camping, there’s no electricity on site, although drinking water and well-maintained posh portable toilets are provided. You'll be allowed to park at your pitch for easy setting up too. It’s a firmly family-friendly vibe at this low-key, relaxed site; it is certainly not a spot for party animals.

What customers say

A spacious, basic campsite in a lovely rural spot, perfect for exploring Alnwick and Northumberland's coast. Guests rave about the friendly owners, peaceful vibe, and great value. Basic but clean portaloos and a tap are provided. Lots of room for kids to play and great for stargazing. The lack of showers is part of its simple appeal.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Quiet and peaceful, loads of space, animals, and location.

Kids had a great time collecting pottery off the field, Lance came to say hi and told us where the pigs were. We had a walk down and they were indeed very friendly, kids had a blast and it was so relaxing. Able to walk to Alnwick and we had a couple of BBQ's. Swimming baths close by 😁

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lots of open space for kids to play football/cricket/frisbee, and the site wasn’t very busy so all of the pitches could be well spaced out. It was lovely to meet the owner Lance and his wife who took care to check around the site every day to make sure everyone had everything they needed. Excellent location only 20-30mins walk from Alnwick.

Disliked We could only stay one night on this occasion, we’d have liked to stay longer!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The owner, Lance and his friendly and enthusiastic approach. The cleanliness of the site and the views of countryside, the stars at night and Alnwick. The location is great to explore the local area and beyond, plus good amenities in Alnwick 5 minutes away. We also got to have a ride on the combine harvester which the kids loved (to be fair, I did too)!

Disliked Nothing, we're definitely going to stay again!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Beautiful location, perfect for the kids to run about and play in, and the wildlife was magical - we were treated to sighting 3 hares at dusk! The owner was really helpful, caring and knowledgeable about family-friendly activities and restaurants in the local area. Loos were clean and well-stocked. We arrived along with Storm Floris, and Lance was really helpful, supportive and understanding when we left early after the storm ripped our tent. We'll definitely go back for longer next time.

Disliked Nothing - nothing to dislike!
