  • Small adults-only site in rural North Yorkshire
  • A five-minute drive from Ravenscar; Scarborough 15 minutes
  • Just off the Cinder Track; access to car-free trails; honesty shop
Whitby or Scarborough? Scarborough or Whitby? At Valley View Camping, kiss that age-old dilemma goodbye and settle down somewhere with easy access to both of North Yorkshire's most popular seaside resorts. Driving to either is a breeze – Scarborough is 15 minutes away by road, while you can reach Whitby in about 20. But there are rewards for travelling under your own steam too – the site is a few minutes' walk from the Cinder Track, a traffic-free bike and walking trail that connects up Yorkshire's seaside capitals, passing through lots of scenic spots that you might otherwise miss. Valley View Camping's level grounds are small in scale and overlook peaceful open countryside. It's an adults-only setup too, so the place should stay nice and peaceful while you relax, perhaps settling in for drinks and meals on the picnic tables provided (you're welcome to bring along a barbecue to create those meals if you like). Other facilities on site include an honesty shop, showers, toilets and chemical disposal. In need of village amenities? Here you're a five-minute drive from Ravenscar's tea rooms, public toilets and stony beach. The nearest farm shop is three miles to the south in Cloughton Newlands. When you arrive, just park up and pick your pitch (with any awnings to the right, please).

Woodpecker shepherd's hut

Liked Location,Location,Location. Was perfect for a over nighter from being in scarbrough in the day then a wildlife trip in Whitby. Was so nice going back to the hut. Was greeted by everyone they all was friendly. Best showers we have been in a slong time( shower block) .As the shower were large and large space to get ready. The hut has a toilet right next to it,so had no reason to worry walking to the toilet block in the nighttime. The bed so comfy, slept like a baby. Best bed! Very clean shepard hut and felt special. We didnt use them but the shepard hut camping cooking facillats looked really good. We defo want to come back.4G was okay.

Disliked We cannot fault it but being extra picky coasters( unless we missed them),bigger fridge(if you were staying longer)

Woodpecker shepherd's hut

Liked Had a great time staying at the Woodpecker shepherd's hut. It is in a lovely secluded location on the campsite tucked in a little valley with the pods a distance away. Great to have flushing outside loo just outside. The hot showers on the campsite are spacious, clean and lovely and hot. Everyone very friendly.
There is an electric hob you can plug in to cook with cooking equipment and a very very small fridge ( just takes a very small carton of milk)
Very quiet and great with no under 18's on site.
Great location for Robin Hood's Bay, Whitby and coastal path.
Felt very safe staying as a solo woman.

Disliked nothing

Primitive cement/asphalt and grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Really nice little tuck shop, decent showers and toilets, lovely to have a little kitchen with power points for charging etc. Nice area and views.

Disliked Many reviews, and their own description, mention the site is peaceful and quiet. This sadly was not our experience, potentially because we were unlucky enough to be there on a Friday night in August. Despite their terms and conditions saying no non-familial groups were allowed, in the area we camped most people clearly were in unrelated groups. In particular, one group of about 10 people congregated in the next pitch and were socialising loudly until past 11pm, keeping us and our dog awake.

While the site is lovely and facilities great, the management seems pretty hands off. The only staff member we saw just gestured us towards an area and told us to pitch where we liked. There are plenty of signs around about where to pitch, but no posted quiet hours - so we felt we had no leg to stand on in asking our neighbours to keep it down. The management's response to another review saying they come around every night at 10pm to check on things and live on site is all very well, but there's no indication the former happened this night and there was no check-in to tell us where or who to go to or contact if there's a problem.

From the manager: Hi.
Thank you for your review, we are sorry you feel our site isn’t for you.
We do have a period of quiet between 11pm and 7am, this is generally well respected.
We do walk around every night at 10pm - without fail.
Our phone numbers are in the information when booking and are also on the wall in the potwash room so any problems a raise throughout stays we can be contacted. We also live a stone throw from the site. If issues do not get brought to our attention whilst you are here we can’t help resolve them.
We aren’t advertised as having a check in and it does say on the booking pull up & pick your pitch.
We do take feedback on board and are proactive - I have ordered some period of quiet signs.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked The location was a lovely place to stay the facilities were good liked the hot water machine the toilets and showers were nice and roomy we managed to get a good spot at the end so had a sea view and was nice seeing the horses running round the field was a nice walk to Ravenscar and then on to Robin Hoods Bay there’s lots of little walks nearby

Disliked Although the facilities were really nice there wasn’t enough when the site got fuller it got quite busy and there was constant queuing as the sinks were in the toilet you had to wait for the loo while others were having a wash etc also only one sink for washing up and the ice block freezer was too small for the amount of people on site could do with a chest freezer
