Liked Great location, overlooking the lake and the castle, decent facilities
Disliked Understandably due to weather the grounds were not at their best, but notwithstanding the time of year the pitches and surrounding areas are in need of improvement, not enough room to manoeuvre in some areas because of narrow access and other parked vehicles, especially if you're towing a caravan and because of this grassed areas were rutted and damaged, if this was addressed the improvement to the site would be amazing.

From the manager: Thanks for your review and observations. It's good to know that you enjoyed our lovely location. It is true that the weather constantly takes it's toll on the ground at all campsites; it can be too wet, too hard and too dry so naturally grass areas in particular are affected in many different ways. Our grounds team do their best to keep the site as tidy as possible but, as you have noted, at certain times of the year all sites experience wear.
With regards to the spacing, your comments will be passed to the relevant teams - although in the hardstanding areas the grass between pitches is the firebreak and not intended for use. When the ground is firm the grass can be driven over without concern and the grass is usually more pleasing to the eye than gravel.

Liked This was an amazing place for our mortohome holiday. was overlooking a lovely lake and a massive castle which was too open on the days for us to have a long walk and some delights. The pitch was well maintained very much a homely feeling out of home. Meanwhile Juliet who was managing the place was very firendly and took the extra effort to plan one of our City tour days in York to be a memorable event. Overall we all loved the serenity and the peacefulness with the amazing architecture that surrounds this place. Definitely recommend this place.

From the manager: Our team are happy to help when they can so it's good to hear that Juliet went the extra mile to make sure you could make the most of a day in York. We're pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay and will recommend us to others.
Friendly receptionist…

Liked Friendly receptionist
Disliked Untidy pitch, old tent pegs laying on the gravel, crayons and colouring pencils too. Ground was not level, just been dumped and spread out. Toilets and showers were dirty, and generally needing and update. Asked for a quite pitch, out of the way, as I have a reactive dog. Turns out it was the busiest pitch for foot traffic, and opposite the entrance for the caravans/mororhomes, and also 6 feet from a heavy metal gate that bangs really loud when opened/closedsite in general.
Phone signal really poor, no wifi.

From the manager: Hello Tim, Thank you for writing your review which is obviously disappointing to us. Unfortunatley our system will automatically allocate a pitch when a booking comes in. Your last minute, one-night Pitch Up booking (on the day of arrival,) did not have any notes requesting a quiet pitch for a reactive dog so our receptionist, unless told, would be unaware of this fact. Had she known I am sure that she would have selected a more suitable pitch for you. You arrived close to noon so there was time to return to reception to request an alternative space. We are always happy to oblige when a move is possible.
Regarding the ground, work had been on-going to repair a burst land drain so I do agree that the soil around your pitch was bare; it was waiting to be re-seeded. Our team take pride in the site and do regularly check for litter so we apologise that you had the misfortune of finding some left behind by previous campers.Thankfully, in many other reviews, the cleanliness of our showers and toilets is generally praised. I expect that the issue on that day was caused by poor weather and mud underfoot. Finally, our FAQ's do state that there is no wi-fi at Lakeside.

From the manager: Thank you for visiting Lakeside Anthony and leaving a review. You are correct that our electric hook up is 10amp. This is clearly stated on Pitch Up so it is unfortunate that you hadn't read this in advance.

Disliked Not a site for the winter months.
Recommend to friends Visit again
From the manager: Lakeside is indeed in a beautiful location and in the winter, for some folk, when the lake is frozen and snow is on the ground it is the most peaceful of places for a truly relaxing break in a cosy caravan or motor home. We are lucky to share our site with an abundance of wildlife throughout the year which guests can find facinating. We would love to see you again in the summer when you will be able to make use of the 2 for 1 offer into the grounds of Castle Howard where the children can expel some energy at Skelf Island Adventure Playground. Thanks for your review.
Site is out of date but in a beautiful area a big let down

Liked Gravel so dry
Disliked On a slope
Place was water logged, ditch was bone dry so need sorting out water running through the electrics so kept tripping out had to use gas tripped out at least 20 times even at 5 am in the morning.
We spoke to others on site and some had the same problem using the same post, went to have a word about the problem and they said there is nothing wrong no body else had said anything but we know different.
Main road into the touring side needs repairing, were you get fresh water from and get rid of waste water is like standing in a hole and was very slippery, paths around toilet block were covered in leaves so slippery and paths starting to come apart needs sorting i used the sinks in the block it's a good job I'm 6 foot because the were very high so if your a child or someone who is sort not good.

From the manager: Hello, it's a great shame that the weekend you chose to come to Lakeside brought the first freeze of this winter which meant flurrys of wet snow. As temperatures fluctuated puddles did emerge and paths became icy. This is normal everywhere, not just at Lakeside, as the water cannot drain easily through frozen soil or paving slabs. I suspect that the cold weather was disappointing as exploring the area was much less likely.
Thankfully the majorty of our reviews are posititve so reading yours is naturally of concern; we take all comments seriously and your points will be passed on to the relevant teams.
Regarding the power; the electric boxes are a meter off the ground, checked regularly and watertight, so your issue was not water running through our electrics. Had someone else had a problem with tripping on the electric post we would have expected them to also report this to us so that we could fully investigate. It is more probable that, with the heating on high, attempting to use another energy draining appliance, such as a kettle was causing an overload of the 10 amp system which in turn led to your motor home and /or the post to trip which is unfortunate but preventable.
Regarding the entrance, the whole site was regravelled last year and the dip has gradually been created by vehicles turning on to the site throughout this busy year. It was due to be repaired last week but had to be postponed because of the bad weather. This will be completed as soon as it can be rescheduled. We'd like to hope that you may consider returnng in warmer weather so that you can fully appreciate our site and the local area.
