  • Well-maintained site a 10-minute drive from the Suffolk coast
  • A 15-minute drive to Southwold, and half an hour from Sutton Hoo
  • Pub five minutes' drive away; a few minutes from a shop and petrol
Fancy some downtime exploring rural Suffolk? The tree-shaded pitches at Hill Farm are in a peaceful setting near the historic town of Saxmundham, handily accessible from the A12 and close to Suffolk’s popular coastline. This is a site that welcomes families and groups of friends – and it's wonderfully dog-friendly too (there’s a four-acre woodland to the north of the site that's great for dog walking). The site has good TV reception for relaxing indoors on damp or chilly days. Only raised gas-powered barbecues are allowed on site (no firepits or charcoal, ground or silver barbecues please), so you can keep warm and toasty while grilling up a barbecue feast. A pub in Darsham village is a five-minute drive away (or half an hour's walk along a farm track through the fields). The nearest shop is at the local petrol station, a few minutes' drive away (near to the Darsham train station). There's also a good local bakery a few minutes' drive away along the A12. The popular village of Westleton (10 minutes’ drive) has village stores, a farm shop, a garage and an art gallery. Back on site, there are several toilet blocks with hot running water, plus four showers. There is also a washing machine, grey waste and chemical toilet disposal and recycling.

What customers say

This quiet rural site has spacious, private treed spots and helpful owners. Basic, clean but dated facilities. Good for exploring the Suffolk coast, near a pub/farm shop. Some mention A12 traffic noise.

Powered grass and earth campsite

Liked The rustic quiet site.
Pitch secluded at the rear of the site.
Individual water tap.
Was exactly as expected for the cost.
There was a clean portaloo, shower and washing up area at our end of the site..so didn't have to walk to the main block.

Disliked Some of the caravans on site ( long term pitches) could do with a bit of TLC which made some areas look rundown. But I have seen that on a few sites so not an issue for us. But might be for some.

Liked Great value for money.. Friendly welcome and lots of info. Toilets always clean. Spacious pitches and random outdoor furniture dotted about which was useful (my dog liked the chair on our pitch!)
Nice chilled quiet site, would definitely return.

Powered grass and earth campsite

Liked We had a lovely big and secluded pitch, quiet site and very helpful and friendly host, even lent us a bottle opener as we had forgotten ours! Excellent pub half hour walk away and beautiful countryside for walks. Great cafe and farm shop nearby. Very basic facilities, but suited us and they were kept clean which was great. Liked that there were picnic benches and other garden furniture dotted around for our use. If you want a modern busy site with fancy shower block, cafe, shop and playground, this is not for you, but if you want a budget quiet, secluded place with a friendly host, in walking distance of a great pub, this is a good one,

Primitive grass and earth campsite

Liked Great pitch - surrounded by trees
Site not overwhelming or too big
Facilities easy accessible
Kids toys and equipment available
Host brilliant

Disliked Shower was a little risky with temperature and operations especially when showering the kids. Instructions given on power unit but teething issues during use.
But this wouldn’t stop us returning in the future.

Local attractions

Hills Farm is an great base for exploring the Suffolk coastline, with indie boutiques in cobbled streets and restaurants on the pier in the cute seaside town of Southwold (15 minutes’ drive), and an extensive sandy beach backed by dunes at Walberswick (10 minutes). Aldeburgh (20 minutes) is home to famous literary and music festivals, plus bracing strolls on the pebble beach and a renowned fish and chip shop. There’s plenty of history in these parts too, with stately part-medieval Orford Castle (25 minutes) open for tours of its angular keep, and you can follow a spectacular walk around the walls at Framlingham Castle (20 minutes). The star of the show here, however, might just be the Anglo-Saxon burial ground and museum showcasing its priceless, golden finds at Sutton Hoo (half an hour). Getting out and about in glorious and unspoilt countryside is easy too, with boardwalks crossing the heathland at National Trust-owned Dunwich Heath and Beach (15 minutes). At the famous RSPB Minsmere coastal reserve (20 minutes), you have the chance to spot otters in reedbed pools, with rare bitterns and avocets nesting nearby.
