  • Well-maintained site a 10-minute drive from the Suffolk coast
  • A 15-minute drive to Southwold, and half an hour from Sutton Hoo
  • Pub five minutes' drive away; a few minutes from a shop and petrol
Fancy some downtime exploring rural Suffolk? The tree-shaded pitches at Hill Farm are in a peaceful setting near the historic town of Saxmundham, handily accessible from the A12 and close to Suffolk’s popular coastline. This is a site that welcomes families and groups of friends – and it's wonderfully dog-friendly too (there’s a four-acre woodland to the north of the site that's great for dog walking). The site has good TV reception for relaxing indoors on damp or chilly days. Raised gas-powered or charcoal/wood barbecues are allowed too (no ground or silver barbecues please), so you can keep warm and toasty while grilling up a barbecue feast. A pub in Darsham village is a five-minute drive away (or half an hour's walk along a farm track through the fields). The nearest shop is at the local petrol station, a few minutes' drive away (near to the Darsham train station). There's also a good local bakery a few minutes' drive away along the A12. The popular village of Westleton (10 minutes’ drive) has village stores, a farm shop, a garage and an art gallery. Back on site, there are several toilet blocks with hot running water, plus four showers. There is also a washing machine, grey waste and chemical toilet disposal and recycling.

What customers say

A peaceful, welcoming woodland site, lauded for great value and a helpful owner. Spacious pitches. Basic but clean facilities, some needing updates. Great for exploring the Suffolk coast. Occasional A12 road noise. Water pressure and minor maintenance issues have been handled.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Basic campsite, but with good facilities and the area is stunning.

I met the gentleman who runs the site and trust me he is a grafter who puts a lot of effort into trying to keep the place top notch.
And the cost of this campsite is decent, so please don't expect all frills, it is what it is, but a decent place to plonk down of a night with facilities.
We had an issue with electrics due to a storm, the owner sorted this right away and through the night, making sure they were all on and good still.
Great customer service in my books!

Disliked Nothing, but there was a few reviews saying how untidy it was or lack of facilities.
I disagree with these, as the campsite doesn't portray itself as anything but a campsite for a decent price in a lovely area.

Powered grass and earth campsite

Liked Lots of greenery, very quiet, flat pitch. Perfectly located for train station, local pub (10% discount on food), shops, an excellent bakery and surrounding Suffolk places we wanted to visit. It’s quirky so each toilet & shower hut has its own set of rules but they are clean and the water is hot. Good wifi

Disliked No hot water for washing up.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Lively location situ amongst young trees and pitches are a good distance apart.

Disliked Lots and lots of discarded items dumped in random places around the site made it look bit like a rubbish tip, the toilets and showers could do with a update. But the site could be really special place with a bit more attention to detail everything seems half finished.

Powered grass and earth campsite

Liked Lovely quiet rural site, expected no frills but had much more facilities than expected and extremely well looked after. Spacious pitches, dog loved it and Jaik was extremely helpful. Love the use of old materials throughout site which makes it homely and old school, rather than a posh campsite (which we hate!). Would stay again.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked The position of the site is ideal for visiting many local attractions. Our pitch was generous and we weren’t aware of road noise, which others had mentioned , possibly because it was a Sunday night. The setting in light woodland is very pretty and our host was pleasant and helpful. The nearby Fox Inn served a fabulous late lunch and we also spotted a super farm shop in the vicinity which is open 7 days. There are plenty of places to walk your dog. Hardcore was being laid to improve the access tracks and prepare for the season

Disliked The facilities are basic and clean and could do with some TLC. Parts of it were untidy but that is because work was going on . Can imagine in peak season that there will be queuing. The washing up station only had cold water but a range of washing up liquids!

Local attractions

Hills Farm is an great base for exploring the Suffolk coastline, with indie boutiques in cobbled streets and restaurants on the pier in the cute seaside town of Southwold (15 minutes’ drive), and an extensive sandy beach backed by dunes at Walberswick (10 minutes). Aldeburgh (20 minutes) is home to famous literary and music festivals, plus bracing strolls on the pebble beach and a renowned fish and chip shop. There’s plenty of history in these parts too, with stately part-medieval Orford Castle (25 minutes) open for tours of its angular keep, and you can follow a spectacular walk around the walls at Framlingham Castle (20 minutes). The star of the show here, however, might just be the Anglo-Saxon burial ground and museum showcasing its priceless, golden finds at Sutton Hoo (half an hour). Getting out and about in glorious and unspoilt countryside is easy too, with boardwalks crossing the heathland at National Trust-owned Dunwich Heath and Beach (15 minutes). At the famous RSPB Minsmere coastal reserve (20 minutes), you have the chance to spot otters in reedbed pools, with rare bitterns and avocets nesting nearby.
