  • Quiet adults-only site in rural north Norfolk; dogs welcome
  • Blickling Hall 10 minutes' drive; 15 minutes to Cromer
  • On the edge of Erpingham, a short walk from two pubs
Pretty and peaceful Deer's Mead Caravan and Camping Park is the place for you if you’re looking for a child-free break in the north Norfolk countryside. On the edge of the small village of Erpingham, this is an adults-only park with a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. Access to the park is nicely straightforward, as it’s just a little way from the A140 – not that you’d know there’s a main road close by once you’re settled in on the pitches, which are well marked by hedging and completely surrounded by trees for shelter and green views. The park is flanked on one side by Thwaite Common, a lovely place to walk your dog (four-legged friends are welcome here) or take an evening stroll to spot some wildlife. Facilities on site have been kept on the simple side to preserve the quiet rural vibe, but you’ll have access to the essentials in the form of toilets (including wheelchair-accessible facilities), showers, a chemical disposal point and a wifi connection. For meals or local pints, the village location puts you within easy walking distance of two pubs – and there are a couple of other well-liked options a short drive away too. For supermarket supplies, head into Aylsham (10 minutes’ drive), which also has a good clutch of cafés, bakeries and places to eat. As well as being a lovely spot for a quiet retreat, this site is also in a great location for exploring the various corners of north Norfolk – the coast is about 15 minutes’ drive away, and it’s half an hour to either Norwich or the Broads National Park.

What customers say

Sites generally praised for space, upkeep, and privacy (hedging). Facilities mostly clean, though some note few showers/toilets, and occasional drainage issues. Some found sites sloped. Ant infestations, overflowing bins, and unmanned reception were noted. RAF noise and bird scarers mentioned.

Liked This site was perfect for being peaceful and the pitches were big with handstanding.
We are a couple who like to use our own showers, however the showers were spacious and very hot, cleaned regularly, so we both used these.
The washer and dryer were a bonus.

Bonus to this stay was having a free display of Typhoons flying over head most days.

Disliked There are 2 things that were a disappointment, the hedges needed a cut as they were long and brambles were growing wildly.

Because this is the sister campsite to Deers Glade unfortunately it is unmanned, so there was no meet and greet. We did however, get an email the day before to let us know which pitch we had been allocated.

I would highly recommend that maybe a representative could go to the site each day between a certain time to help or at least show that a member of staff is about.

Liked Nice setting

Disliked Premium priced pitch on a unmanned site. Second day ,
Had an infestation of ants, couldn't have the windows open, they were in the van, the awning and all over the grass
Difficult to contact the warden, they couldn't answer my email, landline answerphone message, because they were busy, came from sister site eventually.
Ant powder was administered, lasted about an hour before we were covered again we were told to order some ant powder from Amazon and have it delivered to their shop on the sister site, bit of a liberty,
Didn't see warden again
Shame we couldn't enjoy our well earned holiday, please avoid pitch 20 but we were not the only ones suffering after speaking to other caravanners on the site
Quite poor for the pitch cost £46 per night
Well disappointed to be fair

FHU cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Quite peaceful, generally quiet site. Guests are mostly respectful of the ambience.

Clean facilities, although the ratio of showers/toilets to guests is quite low.

Good size ‘fully serviced’ (see below) pitches separated by mature, low hedging surrounded by trees.
Most pitches are fairly level, though ours had a steep slope (see picture that shows how far we had to ‘level up’).

As with the area in general you can, every now and again, hear the RAF training in the skies above, keeping us safe!

Disliked >There is easy access to electric hook up and water although ours was not really a ‘fully serviced’ pitch as paid for as it was quite a steep uphill to the grey water drain point - overcome with the use of my wastemaster tank - but I would prefer the ability to use ALL the facilities on a serviced pitch as that is what I am paying for.
I advised the site team but they could not offer me an alternative pitch.

>Only 1 hand soap between 4 sinks in the toilets.

>Litter on my pitch when I arrived.

>There is road noise from the road into Erpingham.

>Poor waste management - bins soncull that recycling is spilling out all over the floor!

>Reception not manned during our stay with the use of phone numbers only.

>People who were not staying on site, wandering around asking questions about the site.....because “no one was in reception to help them”

>Regular explosions from sunrise to sunset where it seems local farmers are using bird scarers (gas bangers).

>Some site guests thinking the road around the site is a race track.....

Liked Good well maintained pitches, the hedge makes a nice enclosure

Disliked Bins overflowing? Not a good look. A bad drain smell coming from the ladies sinks.
The plugs for the washing up drains don’t hold the water. It’s a shame that no one is there to greet you on arrival- felt a little souless. WiFi wasn’t good, very intermittent.

Liked Clean and
Quiet site , good washing and emptying facilities
Good showers with plenty of room

Disliked The pitch we were put was at an angle and not level , would have been ok if we had self levelling.
There were only 2 toilets for men which are not really enough, I must admit , the cleaner was the very often cleaning them but I didn’t use them as they were very smelly .
Saturday night was quite noisy up until very late , there must have been a party down the road or something ( was not coming from the site )

Local attractions

Pack your boots or bikes for a stay here, as there are plenty of footpaths and quiet lanes to explore in the area (and some nice pubs along the way too…). For a different way to see the local scenery, head to Wroxham (25 minutes’ drive) to hire small boats, canoes or paddleboards or join a cruise around the waterways of the Broads National Park. For some different watery scenery, make your way north to the coast – perhaps for a walk on the Norfolk Coast Path or a visit to one of the hotspots along the way. Choose Cromer (15 minutes) for the pier and local seafood, Blakeney (35 minutes) for seal-spotting boat trips or Holkham (50 minutes) for dunes, forest and a huge swathe of sandy beach. Get a sense of the area’s heritage with an outing to National Trust - Blickling Estate or a steam-powered ride on the Bure Valley Railway from Aylsham (both 10 minutes). There’s also a lot to explore in Norwich (half an hour), including a castle, a cathedral and several museums.
