Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked This place was an unexpected hidden gem. Lovely campsite and the fact that cars are not allowed next to the pitches (they give you a trailer to transport your belongings) was really fun for the kids to get a ride in the trailer but also that they could run around and we didn't have to worry about cars so felt very safe. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for us and the facilities were great including the bar and big campfire. Couldn't think of anything to improve on!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Quirky, small and friendly site. Plenty of space and felt a bit like wild camping but wirh toilets, showers and facilities! Hosts were lovely. Ideal for exploring local tourist spots, nice park next door. BBQ and bonfires allowed. Fridge and freezer facilities were a bonus on a hot weekend.

Disliked Outside of owners control but road can be a little noisy.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked What a treat. Charming and spacious camping & glamping spot, nestled among trees in the old walled garden of Himley Hall.

Handy kitchenette with kettles, combi microwave, toaster and crockery. Cosy indoor lounge areas as well as outdoor seating. Loved the individual fire pits. Well serviced shower/toilet/basin cubicles.

Well located for hiking / exploring.

Particularly loved the bird life - resident owls sang us to sleep.

Lovely community atmosphere round the large fire pit on the Saturday night.

Friendly and helpful hosts.

Disliked There was some traffic noise from the road, but the birdsong and the magic atmosphere in the woodland made up for it.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Absolutely loved this site! Felt so tranquil down on the back camping pitch. We were the only ones booked onto the site which made it even more special for the kids (6-13years) they loved the games cupboard and the swing ball, but most of all loved pushing each other around on the sack barrow-come trolley - they had so many laughs racing around on that! The owners were super friendly and welcoming. The campsite is local to so many different things. The campsite has an indoor seating area with table & chairs, plus fridges & freezers & a microwave also plugs to charge up dead phones. We came to go the black living country museum which was fantastic and only 15 mins away from the campsite. We also visited Cadbury world which the kids faces lit up-they were in awe! We would 100% stay at this site again!

Disliked The only downside was no toilets down the bottom pitches but not a massive dislike.

From the manager: It was a pleasure to have you visit and we look forward to seeing you again.
Being out of urban areas is great but it does have it's disadvantages. Phone signal being one of them!
The Himley Hall and park next door to the site has Dudley Community Wifi which you can use free of charge.

Bell tent

Liked Brilliant site, everything you could need, managed by a lovely, friendly host. The tents were beautifully decorated, my autistic child loved it so much that kept asking to go to bed early! The surrounding area was fantastic with lovely countryside walks and drives along with being close enough to lots of towns for shopping etc. A surprisingly wonderful holiday destination. Couldn't be better.

Disliked Nothing, everything was great.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Himley felt very magical for my children as the the pathway through the words to the camping areas were adorned with magical creations hanging from the trees. They felt like fairies prancing around. They enjoyed the different routes that they could take to where our tent was.
We went camping with friends who were able to pitch next to us.
Not been able to park the cars next to the pitch wasn't particularly an issue as we were able to use trolleys to move our things back and forth.
It was nice to see the ducks and the rabbits.
The owners were lovely, approachable and incredibly friendly. It felt very homely.
There was a kettle and microwave in a small kitchen that we were able to use and seating areas where we were able to sit together. We will definitely come back.
We camp regularly and this is a nicest place that we have been to by far.
I am a single mum with three young children and nothing was too much trouble for the ladies who own it.

Disliked The only thing I would change purely because I have young children is for there to be a washing up sink overlooking the grass area where the children are playing as I found it difficult to supervise them whilst washing up.

Local attractions

There’s plenty to occupy you during time spent on site, including woodland walking trails, a gorgeous 18-hole golf course and a fishing lake that also holds sailing courses from time to time. As well as the café, the main hall is also home to an art gallery and museum. Take a short walk through the park and you’ll get to Baggeridge Park, which has a play area and a high ropes adventure course. For more local walks, head to Bratch Locks (five minutes’ drive) to stroll along the canal path, or take a trip to Kinver Edge (15 minutes) to see the rock houses built into the hillside. A walk around Halfpenny Green Vineyard (10 minutes) is a rewarding one too, as it usually ends in a bit of wine tasting or a good meal in the restaurant. Other attractions nearby include Dudley Zoo and the Black Country Living Museum (both 15 minutes), which make great days out for the kids. Bridgnorth (25 minutes) is also a good bet for a ride on England’s oldest electric funicular and/or the heritage trains of the Severn Valley Railway.
