Liked Good location. Plenty of space. Lots of level pitches.

Disliked We weren't sent the entry code for the gate and couldn't find anyone on arrival and couldn't initially enter the site as there was a big locked gate and an automated gate that required a code. We phoned both numbers that we had been given, but no answer. A German couple who arrived just after us were in the same situation. Eventually we had to climb over the gate to go and find somebody who let us in. There were two toilet blocks, one which was clean and one looked disused (full of cobwebs, dead insects and leaves). Unfortunately I couldn't properly lock the door of the big shower room in the clean block, so went to the other block and had to hose the shower down to clean it before I could use it. The campsite had building work going on at the bottom and the new (unfinished) building looked impressive. The campsite looked a bit neglected (pallets left on one pitch with some rubbish and one pile of cardboard and branches that looked like a bonfire that hadn't been lit. We stayed one night and while there nobody came around to clean anything or restock the toilet paper (as one of the 3 loos didn't have any). Tbh the site looked like it could be lovely, but had a feeling like it had been left for a while.

From the manager: Yiu are quite right that it is a lovely site. Sadly rather parched currently. Yes you used the disused toilet block. They are safe and usable, but may tape them off. We do not regularly clean these because they are not used. The new toilet doors I will check to see which one you had trouble with.
Yes there is a shell of a building in site. Currently on hold. Looking lovely as you say.
Yes we do have a couple of areas ready for bonfires when the weather permits.
Not sure why the neatly stacked pallets in the hedge line are a point of note.
The booking info says you need a gate code. Normally sent direct to the email on the booking. The Germans found it when I saw them later in the day. So we have changed the system to also send it to the mobile number. We thank you for pointing out that option to improve. I do hope this did not detract from you being able to focus on the pleasure of the actual site. Perhaps to help another time text the owners about issues. Often a text can get through better than a call. Happy days.

Liked Very accommodating owner went above and beyond.
Lovely and peaceful site has all facilities there. Shower was good, hot and cold water, toilets, wash up area.
Very nice site and was made to feel very welcome. Lovely setting in the trees and not overcrowded. Would definitely return.

Disliked Not quite as shown on pictures. Half of it is a building site with large machinery and metal fences which are not joined so can be accessed. There are piles of junk dotted around the place. Most of the site sits on a slope. Although there are pubs described close by these are not easy if you have young children due to the hills to access.

From the manager: I have been encouraged to respond to you by pitch up. By describing things as you do it becomes misleading. However, your pictures do show the small area the building takes up. Which is not might reach a tenth. The junk! You describe is wood being seasoned which I did tell you about when I offered to drive home to get you my map so you could go walking. You didn’t have one with you. The fence clearly marks no entry. But of course if you were determined I’m sure you could have gained access. Yep- part of the site is slightly sloping. You didn’t have a young child with you and I wonder about the priority of it!
Your rating- customer service? I drove 8 miles to get you a map so you could find footpaths! You gave me one!
You had hot water for showers, Washing up and toilets. Waste disposal and rubbish collection. Still one point! All for £15! Quite what’s missing in facilities I don’t know. You won’t get better value. Accommodation you put one point but your brought your own tent! Maybe your finger got stuck on one! You liked the quietness which only comes from location but still one point! Best you don’t come again.

Disliked The toilet block, was very very basic and looked like it wasn't even finished.
The showers were a really weird set up??

Liked Beautiful spot, great location for walking and relaxing. The grass was kept short where needed and the pitches were flat. Not very busy, two children who arrived our second night were so good and did not disturb us at all, even in the morning. Some people in a semi permanent caravan where playing music on their TV quite loud until gone midnight but we were awake so not a problem for us.

Disliked Reasonable toilets, sinks and showers all perfectly adequate but very dirty when we arrived and not cleaned at all for some reason over our 2 night stay. The bins in the toilets were not emptied and as you can't put toilet paper etc down the toilet....you can imagine. It looks like some people stay on a semi permanent basis so they leave all their own stuff in the washing up/laundry area and in the shower. There was some Dettol spray in one toilet so I cleaned up a little myself. Didn't meet any staff or owners over our stay and given the state of the facilities, I felt it was expensive.

Liked Location was convenient.

Disliked There is no reception on arrival or clarity of where our pre-booked pitches were located. We just had to drive around and find a space. We had requested two pitches together so it was lucky there was plenty of space. There appears to be no point in making a special request as arrival and location seem to be totally random.
The “upgraded facilities” were very basic, eg toilet cubicles didn’t even have a washbasin - two washbasins were located on the outside wall under minimal cover.
The grass was long and didn’t look as if it had been mown for a while, with some plastic rubbish lying around.
An enormous building (which we understood was to be an activity centre) was being constructed in the middle of the site, totally ruining the rural appearance of the site. We didn’t appreciate the builders arriving before 9.00 am on the Sunday morning.
We had planned to walk to a nearby pub for our evening meals (2 nights) but the road was too dangerous with only a narrow grass verge to walk on so we had to drive which rather spoilt the two evenings we were there for the driver.

From the manager: We are, as you would expect, disappointed with our back to basics site.
As literature states- we are a back to basics site. That includes no set warden. We also state that we do not have marked pitches which enables you to choose your preferred spot. In the 3 acres we are currently only accepting 5 units which enables much choice. It also enables two reasonably sized areas of wild flower/grass. The building is on the edge of the area along the tree line. We are surrounded by footpaths two of which enable access to two local pubs. The Plough and The castle. The others are by road.

Disliked Facilities could have done with some TLC and cleaning.
Couldn’t get the gate code to work on entry and couldn’t get hold of contact! Had to jump over the gate and use the exit key pad to get in.

Liked Small, green, well kept, surrounded by trees, quiet, in pretty area near attractions.

Disliked No hard standing which for us in a wet October was challenging. Ok as stop over, but with kids prefer somewhere with a play area.

From the manager: We are so pleased you like that we keep the site Green. It ensures we connect with nature. The result of this is that we have only 6 hard standings which were occupied when you came. The deliberate approach to our site is the natural back to basics aim. Which means the whole site is a play area for young and old. The WI-FI is not a service we offer as most people have their own roaming service and we have no control on these services. Do come back in the spring and enjoy are bluebell wood.

Liked Quiet campsite in the Cotswolds.

Disliked The toilets and showers are a bit unkept. There is no easy access for walking paths from the campsite without walking on a busy road.
