Immaculate, peaceful, adults-only site with lovely grounds & private pitches. Staff are friendly & helpful, facilities spotless, & the bar is charming. Minor points on shower design or bar hours were noted, but Cartref is highly recommended for a relaxing escape.

Liked Friendly staff - food vans were good although only 2 nights mid week.
Everything was ok, especially liked the very tidy easy to used chemical toilet disposal point.

Disliked Close to a minor road so road noise although not all the time. Very very dark at night, minimal lighting. Small pitches so felt very close to neighbours.
Bar very basic but sufficient for most, zero cocktails.

Liked Really quiet site, neat and tidy ,too quiet for us .
Level pitches .
Clean facilities.

Disliked Toilets closed between 11 00am and 1 00pm, thought this was really weird !

Liked We had a lovely stay , beautiful site so peaceful
We will definitely stay again
And a bonus it has a bar and had some food vans come on site , we had Street feast one night and Greek food , both were very nice .

Disliked The showers are push button and don't stay on very long , which is a problem if you have long hair which i do so I only used them once in my 6 day stay and used my caravan shower.
This wouldn't stop me staying again

Liked From the moment you arrive it’s a case of Wow ! Individual spaces framed in most cases by three beautifully cut hedges creating a private feel to your camping space.

All the Cartref team made us feel very welcome and that nothing was too much trouble !

The toilets/shower block was spotless !
Nighttime was super quiet with everyone being respectful of each other.

The whole site was pristine, I’ve not been to a better run site ! We will return very soon !

Disliked That we couldn’t stay longer ! Faultless !

Liked Friendly staff, lovely site, Wi-Fi at pitches, clean showers, great bar

Disliked There was a fair bit of faffing with the hookup app. There were issues on 3 of the 4 days which needed staff assistance. They were great so it wasn’t too much of a problem.

Local attractions

Shropshire's splendid capital of Shrewsbury is around five miles from Cartref Camping and Caravan Site. The piles of old buildings to see will keep anyone occupied for quite some time, but ask around when you're there to see if any of the famed festivals are running during your stay: the Shrewsbury Flower Show, Folk Festival and the Shrewsbury International Cartoon Festival and more have their HQs here. Roam a little further to Wroxeter Roman City, five miles south-east of Shrewsbury: once one of the biggest cities in Roman Britain, it's managed these days by English Heritage, which runs regular events, an audio tour and a museum around its bathhouse remains, townhouse re-creation and the biggest free-standing Roman wall in the country in the Old Work. Guided tours, afternoon teas and wines are available at Wroxeter Roman Vineyard. The Industrial Revolution site of Ironbridge half an hour's drive away is another top Shropshire attraction, or you could sample some fine dining or afternoon teas in the foodie town of Ludlow. Ellesmere, with its glacial meres created during the last Ice Age, also has a bowling green at the ruins of its 11th-century motte-and-bailey castle.
