  • Peaceful Oxfordshire site with direct access to Shotover Country Park
  • Harcourt Arboretum 20 minutes’ drive; Blenheim Palace 35 minutes
  • Communal firepit and barbecue station; bus to Oxford a short walk away
Part of a working farm, Greenacres Campsite is a peaceful place surrounded by spectacular countryside. It has a remarkably secluded vibe, though position yourself in the right spot, and you might just be able to make out the occasional rooftop and the sails of 18th-century Wheatley Windmill (five minutes’ drive away). Not only that: as remote as it feels, Greenacres is only about half an hour from Oxford. (Useful tip: the number 46 bus to Oxford city centre stops a short walk from the site.) The site has direct access to Shotover Country Park, a former royal hunting ground with a vast network of woodland hiking and mountain-biking trails leading to hilltop viewpoints looking out across south Oxfordshire. The park’s varied landscape (which includes heathland, marshes and hay meadows) is a riot of colour in season, with bluebells and wild orchids attracting butterflies and bees, plus songbirds and deer. The best part? Dogs are welcome – both at Shotover and at Greenacres. If you feel sociable, the communal firepit area is a great spot to mingle with other guests, perhaps swapping cooking tips at the barbecue station; there might be more banter after dinner, at the washing-up area. (Other amenities include a toilet block and hot-water showers, plus recycling points.) The nearest supermarket is about a mile away, in the village of Horspath (five minutes). If you’d rather someone else did the cooking, there are several pubs serving food within a five-minute drive (or a 20-minute walk).

What customers say

Peaceful, well-kept campsite with spacious sites and lovely country views, handy bus to Oxford. Generally clean facilities, though some found them basic. Friendly staff, fire pit, and nature trails a hit. Some found it pricey; road access and limited facilities at peak times were noted.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Great location on a hill with views and close to Oxford with good bus link. Lovely facilities and clean. Great warden host.

Disliked Quite an expensive site with, in my opinion, added and unnecessary electric add ons which is by an app, that when we tried, failed first time but successful on the secondary attempt. However, the first failed attempt deducted the money, so we had £10 credit and only used a quids worth in 2 days!!!!

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked "Had a fantastic time at Greenacres campsite! The pitches were incredibly generous and well-maintained. The facilities were spotless, and the on-site fire pit was a great touch. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the location was perfectly situated for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Highly recommend!"

Disliked What’s there to dislike.. Family run and just full of Southern hospitality !!! Y’all come back now ya hear !! 😁

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Views proximity to pub. Nice walks

Disliked The permanent pods noisy group disturbed the peace . Pitches fir camping are crammed in together noisy and no privacy.only small wicket fence between. No hedges like in Europe My neighbours could see right into my van . There was lots of Dog poo on my pitch and rubbish and toys from other campers so I had to clear it before parking The electricity didn’t work. Facilities too few for amount of people no answer from emergency phone number very expensive for what I got and why did I to join greener camping club ? I won’t use it again.

Power optional grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Absolutely perfect. Loved every minute. Showers & toilets were good. Very clean. Pitches were great too. Nicely positioned so you weren't on top of one & another. Staff were so helpful nothing was too much for them. Always around to help. Thanks all a wonderful stay. We will be back. Pitches 3&4.

Disliked The step up to the toilet/showers were a little steep for me.
Could do with a few more.
It would have been nice for the shop to be open.

Liked Proximity to Oxford excellent and view lovely. The nature trail is stunning.
Red kites overhead all the time.
Staff are friendly.

Disliked 1. This the most expensive site we have ever stayed on. We were charged circa £38 per night, including £5 per night for electricity (£15 in total) for 3 nights. The electric meters weren't working.

2. Shower temperature regulator not working. Either freezing cold or scalding hot.

3. Noisy. Dogs, owner's vehicles. See also item 4.

4. Lack of privacy due to the layout and cloze proximity of pitches along a fenceline.

5. Greener credentials poor. No recycling for paper or cans - as far as I could see.

6. Why do you need all the strings of lights everywhere? There is just no need at all for all that light pollution.

Local attractions

Part of the University of Oxford, Harcourt Arboretum (20 minutes’ drive) started life in the 1830s as a pinetum, but it has since grown to include California redwoods, maples and magnolias, among other plants. Seasonal spectacles include wildflower meadows and an area of woodland carpeted with bluebells. The exhibits at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford (half an hour) range from Egyptian mummies to a samurai suit of armour, as well as paintings by Renaissance and Impressionist artists. While in the university city, you might also want to check out the ornate ceiling of the Divinity School and the elegant Radcliffe Camera, with its circular reading room, both part of the Bodleian Library. The birthplace of Winston Churchill, Blenheim Palace (35 minutes) is a vast 18th-century mansion on the banks of the River Glyme. After admiring its richly decorated rooms hung with portraits, head outside to explore its grounds, which include formal gardens, follies and water features.
