A sunny day on site

  • Spacious semi-rural site 10 minutes' drive from Mansfield
  • Less than half an hour's drive from Sherwood Forest and Clumber Park
  • Well-stocked carp fishing lake next to the site
A packing list for folk heading to Tall Trees Touring Park: comfy shoes, fishing kit, bus pass, kids, dogs (these last two only if you already have them – no need to acquire them specially). This family-friendly and dog-welcoming park is in a semi-rural spot a 10-minute drive from the centre of Mansfield, ticking holiday boxes for easy access to both urban amenities and fresh-air attractions. The comfy shoes and/or bus pass are useful things to have with you as there’s a bus stop just outside the park for forays into town, and lots of useful bits and bobs within walking distance (a family-friendly pub, fast food outlets, supermarket and indoor play centre among them). Those shoes may well also come in handy for lengthy rural rambles in the local area: around Sherwood Forest or Clumber Park, perhaps, or taking in the historic buildings of Hardwick Hall or Newstead Abbey. And the fishing kit? That’s for those who fancy heading to the lake just by the park for some quiet time gazing out over the Maun Valley Nature Reserve and (hopefully) catching some carp. Facilities on site include a playground to keep the kids amused (and/or tire them out), a small library, tourist information point and well-kept toilet block with accessible facilities and baby changing.

What customers say

Visitors love the super-clean facilities & friendly staff. Spacious pitches & a nice vibe, with the fishing pond & playground big hits. Shops & pubs nearby. Road noise & speed bumps noted. A few recent guests found long-term residents unwelcoming & disruptive. Adults-only from Sept 2026.

Liked A lovely, clean and tidy campsite with friendly staff and an easy check-in process. The campsite was also nice and quiet, which made for a really relaxing stay.

Disliked It seems a shame that the campsite is becoming adults-only from September. It’s a lovely family-friendly site, so it will be a shame to see that change. I feel this decision could also have the opposite affect attracting noisy groups.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked I was nervous after seeing a previous review about noise and unfriendly people since I'd moved off of a noisy site and was staying alone with my son but very glad I went! Lovely staff, and people who stay there. Nice little park for my son, lovely spacious pitch and exceptionally clean toilet/shower block which was lovely! I felt lovely and peaceful and slept wonderfully. Great location also being just next to asda and nice pubs for food.

Disliked Only that they're not allowing kids from September because I'd definitely come again! My son loved it here

Liked Nice but very basic. Very peaceful with horses running around in the field just beside. Clean toilet block.

Disliked Residents not friendly at all. Needs a little shop onsite. And there is only one shower in the women’s toilets.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked We liked the fish pond and owners were friendly

Disliked The residents in caravans where we pitched our tents . These were rude and aggressive to our children . This was sold as a family friendly site and this was not the case . Most of the people were really rude and even though our children didn’t go anywhere near their caravan continued to verbally abuse all people in our group . This made us feel very uncomfortable and this wasn’t acceptable. We would not recommend this site due to this reason !

Liked The site and its facilities were clean and the site wardens were warm and welcoming. There are a few nice walks from the site.

Disliked We found the permanent residents that we encountered to be unwelcoming and we got the feeling they did not want campers on the site. Having spoken with our neighbouring campers they also had the same feeling. This fact alone soured our stay and we would not choose to return.

Liked Great clean site and close to amenities.

Disliked Sadly the site won’t be accepting bookings with children from September so we won’t be able to return which is unfortunate as we loved our stay.

Local attractions

Take a spot at Tall Trees for all sorts of leisurely local walks: stride around Robin Hood’s old stomping ground, 450-acre Sherwood Forest, or take in one of the trails through the woods and around the lake at National Trust-owned Clumber Park (bike hire can be had here if you prefer to pedal). Both are less than half an hour’s drive from the park. Creswell Crags, 20 minutes’ drive away, is an enclosed limestone gorge and cave system that’s home to the UK’s only known Ice Age cave art. There’s a great museum here, and rock art cave tours can be had in the spring and summer months. If it’s historic buildings you’re after, head to 16th-century Hardwick Hall, or to medieval Newstead Abbey (home to a collection of objects belonging to former resident Lord Byron). Rufford Abbey Country Park is a good place for woodland walks around the abbey ruins.
