  • Peaceful, well-kept park with six lakes, walking trails and wildlife
  • A 15-minute drive to Lincoln; half an hour to the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • Café-bar, wifi, play area, takeaway food and fishing
Rural roams are firmly on the agenda at Hanworth Country Park, a serene site dotted with pretty paths and six lakes around 15 minutes’ drive from Lincoln. And angling’s on the cards too – four of the bodies of water here, stocked with mirror carp, common carp, chub, barbel, ide, perch, roach and tench, are open for fishing. There’s also a café-bar to order takeaway food and drink (with a handful of tables if you fancy eating in). Travelling with the tiddlers? Let them roam free in the play area. Animals are also often seen scampering around the park, especially around the lakes and woodland: think buzzards, red kites, woodpeckers and kestrels, as well as brown hares, squirrels, hedgehogs and deer. Attempt to catch a glimpse of these critters while roving along routes through the country park, either on foot or by bike; a favourite trails is the famed Lincolnshire Spires and Steeples path, which runs through the park and ends up at Lincoln Cathedral. Closer by is the village of Potterhanworth (10 minutes’ walk), a peaceful place with a handful of amenities including a large playing field with a play park, a skateboard park and tennis courts. A pub’s in the centre of the village – handy for evening drinks – and there’s a bus stop plying the Lincoln to Sleaford and Lincoln to Boston routes for explores via public transport. Surrounding villages such as Metheringham, Branston, Heighington and Washingborough are all within five miles and have conveniences like food shops, inn, takeaways, cafés, butchers and post offices.

What customers say

A well-kept site with spacious, level spots and lovely surroundings. Guests rave about the friendly, helpful staff, clean facilities, and on-site pub/restaurant. Fishing, walking, and paddleboarding are big draws. A few noted train noise and occasional shower quirks; management's aware. Overall, a peaceful, enjoyable stay with many keen to return.

Powered cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked It was in a good location - out of the way and we'll maintained. Obviously needs to naturally develop and mature.
We had been warned of the train noise, and there were fairly regular train activities during our 1 night stay, so no surprise.
The pitch was basic - on gravel with an electric hookup - with plenty of open grassland around the site. The surrounding walks and fishing lakes were neat and well cared for.

Disliked The Men's Showers looked in need of more regular maintenance.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely campsite, clean, quiet and had the most friendly staff. Kids loved that they could ride their bikes and there was a park within short distance from the touring site. The cafes food was fantastic too. Partner enjoyed the fishing. Loved that the pitch we had was a serviced pitch. Seen that they do activities on one of the ponds which will definitely want to try next time

Disliked The only dislike which is only slight and wouldn't put us off coming again was the extra charge for fishing.

Local attractions

Pootling around on public transport? The nearest train station is in Metheringham (five minutes’ drive) for catching a ride to places including Peterborough, Sleaford and Doncaster. Lincoln (15 minutes) has a larger station with access to more destinations, but it’s worth lingering in this lovely city for a little while before fleeing further afield. Don’t miss the castle and cathedral or the shops and eateries in the cobblestoned Bailgate area. Keen to blend a few historically minded expeditions into your stay? Learn all about the Second World War at the International Bomber Command Centre (10 minutes), a memorial and interpretation complex dedicated to the RAF force that helped bring D-Day about.
