  • Peaceful, well-kept park with six lakes, walking trails and wildlife
  • A 15-minute drive to Lincoln; half an hour to the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • Café-bar, wifi, play area, takeaway food and fishing
Rural roams are firmly on the agenda at Hanworth Country Park, a serene site dotted with pretty paths and six lakes around 15 minutes’ drive from Lincoln. And angling’s on the cards too – four of the bodies of water here, stocked with mirror carp, common carp, chub, barbel, ide, perch, roach and tench, are open for fishing. There’s also a café-bar to order takeaway food and drink (with a handful of tables if you fancy eating in). Travelling with the tiddlers? Let them roam free in the play area. Animals are also often seen scampering around the park, especially around the lakes and woodland: think buzzards, red kites, woodpeckers and kestrels, as well as brown hares, squirrels, hedgehogs and deer. Attempt to catch a glimpse of these critters while roving along routes through the country park, either on foot or by bike; a favourite trails is the famed Lincolnshire Spires and Steeples path, which runs through the park and ends up at Lincoln Cathedral. Closer by is the village of Potterhanworth (10 minutes’ walk), a peaceful place with a handful of amenities including a large playing field with a play park, a skateboard park and tennis courts. A pub’s in the centre of the village – handy for evening drinks – and there’s a bus stop plying the Lincoln to Sleaford and Lincoln to Boston routes for explores via public transport. Surrounding villages such as Metheringham, Branston, Heighington and Washingborough are all within five miles and have conveniences like food shops, inn, takeaways, cafés, butchers and post offices.

FHU cement/asphalt campervan or trailer tent campsite (small)

Liked We where unable to stay as the reason for us visiting was to have a weekend of fishing but fishing lakes where closed.
5 * given as can not rate

Disliked I was contacted the day before to see what time we would be arriving. I happened to mention was there any payment required for fishing now to which we were told fishing likes where closed had I not enquired about this I'm sure we wouldn't have been told and we would have had a very disappointing stay. Cancelled visit and we were re funded.

Camping pod (comfort, no pets, double)

Liked Lovely, clean pods.Everything in them ,even a fleecy throw ( good for sitting outside ,watching the stars). Very idyllic and peaceful, but there's an excellent bar ,restaurant, beer garden ,play park and free bouncy castle for the children . Also a proper designated area ,with goals, for the kids and adults to play football. Near Lincoln and a wildlife park for days out .Also paddleboard activities and lake swimming ( with lifeguard and safety equipment). Excellent value for money ,especially during the school holidays . Was sad to leave .

Liked Location
They rang to check your time of arrival.

Disliked Failed to tell you they had closed the fishing lakes - no refunds!
No electric bikes allowed most of us of a certain age have them now.
People complaining about their food being cold it could be as they serve from a hatch and you can’t hear when they call you!
To top it off cold showers.
Everything was additional cost even WiFi,

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked The quiet, clean environment. Amazing and friendly staff at the site bar/restaurant.

Disliked They advertise open swimming and paddle boarding but it is very limited in times and difficult to attend if you want to visit the local sites or attractions.
The shower blocks are also very dated and although they appear clean, they are not. There is also very little to no hot water at any of the showers or ablutions. We had to boil water and wash dishes that way in the evening!
We will be looking at other sites next summer for our annual Lincolnshire trip which is a shame, as we've been here for 3 years in a row.

Local attractions

Pootling around on public transport? The nearest train station is in Metheringham (five minutes’ drive) for catching a ride to places including Peterborough, Sleaford and Doncaster. Lincoln (15 minutes) has a larger station with access to more destinations, but it’s worth lingering in this lovely city for a little while before fleeing further afield. Don’t miss the castle and cathedral or the shops and eateries in the cobblestoned Bailgate area. Keen to blend a few historically minded expeditions into your stay? Learn all about the Second World War at the International Bomber Command Centre (10 minutes), a memorial and interpretation complex dedicated to the RAF force that helped bring D-Day about.
