  • Quiet, rural adults-only site on the Leicestershire-Derbyshire border
  • Donington Park Circuit and East Midlands Aeropark five minutes’ drive
  • Countryside views; 10 minutes’ walk from the village pub
Do you like the sound of direct access to the National Forest, with its miles of scenic wooded tracks for walking and cycling? How about adding in views of Derbyshire’s centuries-old St Mary and St Hardulph Priory Church, atop Breedon Hill? If you answered ‘yes’ to both, then you should be heading for Barley Fields Holidays, on the Leicestershire–Derbyshire border. This peaceful adults-only site also has stunning views to the Peak District National Park to the north, and the Vale of Belvoir to the east. And just when you thought things couldn’t get any better, you’ll be pleased to learn that your dogs can join you, that the site has modern showers and loos, and that – although barbecues are allowed on site – you’re only 10 minutes’ stroll from a popular Breedon on the Hill pub that serves decent grub. On arrival, get set up and… just chill. Life will take care of itself. Sit back, relax, watch the horses in the neighbouring fields and see if you can spot/hear any of the following: cuckoos calling in late spring, swallows arriving on their early summer stop-overs and birds of prey circling overhead. And on clear evenings, you have a pretty decent chance of bagging yourself a truly spectacular sunset. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

What customers say

This adult-only site has clean, modern amenities and spacious, level pitches. Guests love the friendly staff, peaceful vibe, and beautiful countryside location with great local walks. Mostly quiet, but occasional noise from nearby East Midlands Airport and Donington Park is mentioned. Great for short stays.

Liked We had a wonderful stay at Barley Fields Campsite and couldn’t have chosen a better place for our first camping experience.

From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Kerry and her husband, who was incredibly friendly and took the time to explain everything we needed to know. As first-time campers, this was greatly appreciated and immediately put us at ease.

The campsite is very well maintained, with spotless facilities and beautifully kept grounds. Everything was clean, tidy, and clearly cared for to a very high standard.

Everyone was friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and nothing seemed too much trouble. The whole site has a welcoming atmosphere, making it a lovely place to relax and enjoy your time away.

We would highly recommend Barley Fields Campsite and will definitely be returning. Thank you to Kerry and her husband for making our first camping trip such a positive experience!

Liked Spacious pitches and a warm welcome. The reason I chose this site was because of the reviews and terms and conditions. Majority of reviews saying a great quiet site etc. in the terms and conditions in capital letters no music allowed. Great this is the site for us no music and peaceful which it was till Friday teatime. A tent pitched up 2 pitches away from us and started playing music loudly. My husband stipulated that no music was allowed on this site to which to be fair they turned it down but we could still hear it and this went on till after 11 pm, so the next morning we got up and left early before 8 am. If a site says no music then that should be adhered to. The site either needs to stick to this rule or ask for no music after a certain time. It was a big disappointment for us as we were going to return later in the year, but we dislike listening to other people’s music when all we want is a peaceful and quiet time whilst away

Liked Pitches had shared water so ideal for topping up, also EHU.
Although the site was fairly busy it was quiet. Enjoyed watching the planes take off from east midland airport.

Disliked Nothing.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked I chose a grass pitch, no EHU. I was a little early arriving to site, but got a warm welcome and directed to the areas that had the most level pitches, then left to choose my spot. Some nice landscaping had been done on the site and some areas left for re-wilding. Toilets, showers and washing up area were lovely and clean. A good Elsan and separate green waste area. There was a dog washing area too and plenty of bin space. There's a nice little walk into the village. Sadly the main pub closes at 3pm on Sunday and doesn't reopen until Thursday so I didn't get chance to try that, but it has good reviews. I one stayed one night, but got a nice feel about this site.

In a few previous reviews, they have mentioned aircraft noise from East Midlands, but don't let this put you off - it's not noisy at all.

Local attractions

Petrolheads make a beeline for Donington Park Circuit (five minutes’ drive), which has a lively calendar of motoring events, from the popular British Superbike Championship to a vintage motorsport festival. And on track days, you can also drive your own car (yes, your Fiat 500 also qualifies) on the circuit. On the north-western corner of East Midlands Airport, East Midlands Aeropark (five minutes) is an aviation museum with dozens of aircraft displayed on the lawn, including a Gloster Meteor fighter jet from World War II. Engines and other aircraft components fill a separate hangar. On the outskirts of Leicester, the National Space Centre (35 minutes) includes the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium (the largest in the UK) and the 42-metre tall Rocket Tower, which houses interactive exhibits on Earth and the universe, plus a gallery illustrating life as an astronaut in space.
