  • Small family-friendly tree-filled site four miles north of Gloucester
  • A 15-minute drive from the Cotswolds and Tewkesbury
  • Bus stop outside to visit Gloucester or Cheltenham and pubs nearby
Settle in at this small but mighty fine place just north of Gloucester and prep for a nice mix of sightseeing and adventures in the Cotswolds National Landscape 15 minutes’ drive to the east. There’s a story behind how Gloucester Camping at Court Farm came to be. After staying at a small campsite in what they describe as an empty, unwelcome field for a week in 2010, the now-owners decided to inject some life into space. They stayed a bit longer than anticipated and used the blank canvas to plant a few hundred 12-inch trees. Now, years later, the location reflects a site that their mums and dads would have liked to stay on when they were kids: a small, homely site with spacious pitches and heaps of greenery to rest and relax in full. The trees are still being nurtured by the same owners, and the profits go back to the property owners as agreed 10 years ago. Facilities now include showers and toilets. The location’s pretty excellent too, four miles north of the centre of Gloucester, with pubs, shops and restaurants about five minutes’ drive away. The 71 bus service from right outside the site’s gate goes to both Gloucester and Cheltenham (a further nine miles out). If you’re on a journey from the north to the west country, the A38 is just five miles south and the M5 is three miles away too (10 minutes’ drive). So, if you wish to break a longer journey up with a pitstop in Gloucester, this is the place to do so. A full holiday can easily be had here though, what with days out at the Stonelea Riding Centre (20 minutes’ drive) and Rodway Hill Golf Club (20 minutes) so close by.

What customers say

Great location, friendly staff, and level pitches. Bus to Gloucester is handy. Downsides: hygiene concerns in washrooms, overflowing bins, and dated facilities. Noise also an issue for some.

Schöner Stellplatz

Disliked Sanitäre Anlagen nicht sauber. In allen Waschbecken Haare vom Rasieren.
Liegt an einer Haupverkehrsstrasse. Der Stellplatz liegt zwar ruhig, aber für uns Hundehalter sehr ungünstig

Liked close to city but unreliable bus service

Disliked Disgusting toilet block, flooded while showering, uncleaned toilets. Shared by residents of chalets on site who have little respect for the block, eg sign on the wall to residents of Court Farm to discontinue putting used condoms and nappies down the system. They played loud music all night, ‘herbal smells’ in the air especially near the reception, tents allowed to set up at midnight then music and TV until 0500, local businesses associated with chalets start very early. There were a dozen low calibre, probably .22 shots at about 0100, probably rabbit shooting. It’s the only campsite where we decided to lock the van while asleep. A local with a cross breed dog ‘ mooched’ about our area (no through path) and young kids on bikes were playing around the van. When you pay premium site fees you expect better than this

Liked Shady trees! Very level pitches. The trees were very welcome during the recent heatwave. The proprietor was very friendly and polite. Convenient for Gloucester with a bus route directly outside the site.

Disliked Having read other reviews I still booked this place! It’s properly grubby! Overflowing bins is an understatement. Grotty toilet block (even though they claim they’ve been updated) - one of the female toilets was blocked for the whole weekend. No internet (apparently a digger had severed it!). Noisy from the residential area.

Liked Location, with local buses serving Gloucester was ideal.

Campgrounds were lovely, well kept, and the grass was like a lawn.

Disliked WCs and showers bordering on unsanitary and unmaintained. Hair in the shower tray blocking the outlet, broken fittings and blocked toilets.

Local attractions

While you’re so close to Gloucester, a day of sightseeing may be one of the first things up on your itinerary. There’s Gloucester Cathedral (15 minutes' drive) and the Gloucester Docks (15 minutes) for a good dose of history and Gloucester Rugby Club in Kingsholm (10 minutes) for sporting events. Or you may wish to dine by the docks – perhaps starting with brunch after finishing with sunrise yoga on a paddleboard. Tewkesbury (15 minutes) is a historic riverside destination with medieval streets and river boat trips for more peaceful days out. Or you may prefer to board the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway (half an hour) and extend your expedition with a steam train journey. Otherwise, stick around Cheltenham (20 minutes) to catch the racecourse, fine art museum and Victorian Everyman Theatre. Stow-on-the-Wold (45 minutes) and Bourton-on-the-Water (40 minutes) are other destinations to add to your Cotswolds-based relaxation itinerary.
