  • Small family-friendly tree-filled site four miles north of Gloucester
  • A 15-minute drive from the Cotswolds and Tewkesbury
  • Bus stop outside to visit Gloucester or Cheltenham and pubs nearby
Settle in at this small but mighty fine place just north of Gloucester and prep for a nice mix of sightseeing and adventures in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty 15 minutes’ drive to the east. There’s a story behind how Gloucester Camping at Court Farm came to be. After staying at a small campsite in what they describe as an empty, unwelcome field for a week in 2010, the now-owners decided to inject some life into space. They stayed a bit longer than anticipated and used the blank canvas to plant a few hundred 12-inch trees. Now, years later, the location reflects a site that their mums and dads would have liked to stay on when they were kids: a small, homely site with spacious pitches and heaps of greenery to rest and relax in full. The trees are still being nurtured by the same owners, and the profits go back to the property owners as agreed 10 years ago. Facilities now include showers and toilets. The location’s pretty excellent too, four miles north of the centre of Gloucester, with pubs, shops and restaurants about five minutes’ drive away. The 71 bus service from right outside the site’s gate goes to both Gloucester and Cheltenham (a further nine miles out). If you’re on a journey from the north to the west country, the A38 is just five miles south and the M5 is three miles away too (10 minutes’ drive). So, if you wish to break a longer journey up with a pitstop in Gloucester, this is the place to do so. A full holiday can easily be had here though, what with days out at the Stonelea Riding Centre (20 minutes’ drive) and Rodway Hill Golf Club (20 minutes) so close by.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Proximity to Gloucester and Nature in Art

Disliked: Litter around pitches Toilets, showers need better cleaning and frequently without toilet paper. Hand drier not functioning properly. Noise on site from permanent residents. Toilet waste disposal, an open sewer via a deep hole in the ground, disgusting.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The staff were extremely helpful to accommodate everyone as the grass area was waterlogged. Due to this people were parked everywhere but this was unavoidable so well done.

Disliked: I think the grey waist and Elsan point was not up to scratch. There was no connections or pipe to wash cassette out and it was just a large whole covered with a piece of sterling board . It was pretty deep and wide . A little investment required here.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: I liked that the woman on the reception was adamant she got hold of us before letting us travel 2hrs to then be told we werent able to camp in the field. Got to give it to her for full confidence in lying to our faces👍

Disliked: Absolute shocker. Drove 2hrs to be told the field was flooded so could not camp, which is absolutely fine if there was an apology as soon as we arrived (manners goes a long). Instead we had repeated comments saying they rang EVERYONE early hours in the morning to give them notice before travelling. Guess we were the only ones that didnt.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch (no awning)

Liked: Easy location,

Disliked: Could be better, the lady running the site ( nice and friendly by the way) told us they were selling up and it shows sadly , toilets could do with a domestos bath , showers only one worked , again hygiene isn't a priority 😢 no sleep as touring pitches are set next to the entrance ( on a deep gravel Rd that runs around the site ) so can hear every movement 🙉 electric hook ups are in a foot of water 💧( the whole sit has drainage issues to be fair)

Electric hardstanding touring pitch (no awning)

Liked: Friendly reception on arrival.

Disliked: Pitch immediately adjacent to a building site within the campsite. Constant noise of 'screaming' stone cutters, banging and hammering, clanking of scaffolding, mini diggers driving backwards and forwards. Builders using the campsite toilet facilites with the resultant muddy mess. Hardstanding is very deep pea gravel - impossible to use ramps or wheel the waste and toilet recepticals. Pitches are less than two metres apart (almost touching) Electricity post standing within half a metre of water - necessary for the cable to lie in the water. Waste disposal approx 300m on the other side of the site. Comprises of what appears to be a 1.25m diameter piece of builder's shutterboard over a pipe. The board needs to be moved by hand - a very heavy lifting experience. On site traffic started at 5.30am on a deep pea gravel drive immediately adjacent to the pitch - better than an alarm clock. Whole experience intolerable.

While you’re so close to Gloucester, a day of sightseeing may be one of the first things up on your itinerary. There’s Gloucester Cathedral (15 minutes' drive) and the Gloucester Docks (15 minutes) for a good dose of history and Gloucester Rugby Club in Kingsholm (10 minutes) for sporting events. Or you may wish to dine by the docks – perhaps starting with brunch after finishing with sunrise yoga on a paddleboard. Tewkesbury (15 minutes) is a historic riverside destination with medieval streets and river boat trips for more peaceful days out. Or you may prefer to board the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway (half an hour) and extend your expedition with a steam train journey.
