  • Small, friendly Peak District site close to several walking trails
  • A 10-minute drive to Buxton and Bakewell and 20 minutes to Chatsworth
  • Dog-friendly pitches; several pubs within a five-minute drive
For peaceful times in the Peak District National Park take a look at Longfield Farm, a small and friendly site surrounded by Derbyshire countryside. A 10-minute drive from the spa town of Buxton and the medieval town of Bakewell, the pitches here are well situated for all sorts of alfresco activities. In the surrounding Peak District, guests can pull on their walking boots and get stuck into several good hikes along the likes of the Tissington Trail and the Monsal Trail, each within a 25-minute drive. Dogs should find plenty to sniff out on countryside walks too, and cyclists can make use of the area's many dirt paths. For other outdoor activities to get the heart racing, there's kayaking, windsurfing and fly fishing 30 minutes away at Carsington Water, including taster sessions for first-timers. After all this, put your feet up at one of the local country pubs. Handily, there are several within a five-minute drive, including one with a large playground to let the kids blow off some steam while you nurse a well-deserved pint. This is a simple site with basic facilities only, but you’ll have access to water points, three toilets and a shower. If you don’t fancy a bite to eat from one of the local pubs, you're welcome to light up your own barbecue instead. Both Buxton and Bakewell have a good selection of supermarkets, or you can head to one of several local farm shops for meat and extras to put on the grill.

What customers say

A tranquil spot with scenic rural views and ample space. Pitches are spacious and well-kept, with hook-ups. Owners are friendly and helpful; farm animals a plus. Facilities are basic but clean, though some noted they could use an update (especially the single shower). Great for Peak District explorations.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Quiet small farm field, only facilities are 3 toilets and 1 shower. All unisex. And they are very basic.

Disliked On arrival it was a shock to the system seeing the toilet and shower facilities. If you are looking for basic then this is perfect.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Big lush pitches and plenty of walking nearby.

Disliked Didn’t dislike anything. Some have complained about limited facilities but it is what it is. It’s a working farm, not a spa. More proper campsites like this please.

Liked Well this site has just rocked our world.. even when its raining, and so much so, we came early, and staying an extra night! Beautiful scenery, the type that is raw yet treated with compassion and love by the local Farmers, with rolling hills, old stone built walls, windswept landscapes, and the sound of sheep, cows and strangely enough, a donkey, but thats another story.

The site - its incredibly laid back and peaceful with fantastic scenery. Not for the faint hearted and if you want luxury and everything within a hands reach, you wont get it here, which is part of the charm. The pitches are not on flat flat ground, there is a slight incline, so you will need to pitch accordingly. Been to and seen much much worse, so dont let this put you off, and as long as when you sleep with your feet facing down bank, you will sleep really well.

The owners - Wow! Absolutely lovely and is only a call.away should you need help. Very easy to talk to, which is nice, and his son is a little champion and when our grandkids came to join us on the pitch next door, they were off all playing in a small field attached to the campsite.

The facilities - ok so this is the tough part that not everyone will cope with, that doesnt really bother us as we also wild camp (if you know, you know) There are 3 toilets and 1 shower. The shower is in one of the toilets and everything is unisex. They are stocked well with paper and are warm and there is a lovely flow of hot water. The shower gets dirty quickly depending on how many are on site. Bring flip-flops or other shower safe footwear, like you would at most other sites, and then you wont need to worry. They are cleaned every day, but this is working farmland, owned by a working farmer and his working family, so be a bit understanding, and just clean up after yourself. After having a very lovely conversation with she who cleans (the lovely Shirley) she told us that there will be more facilities being built, but its a working progress. Sounds good to me 👍

Would we.come again? - Yes Yes Yes its delightful and gets your senses tingly in all the right ways. We have very much adopted this site as our base site. We also made friends with a man and his dog (hi roxy) and plan to meet here again soon for some star gazing, deep conversation and tranquil moments with nature. All in all, a brilliant experience.
Oh and lastly, if you want a noisy night out and to party.. dont, just dont cause you will NOT find that here. However, it is ideal for a cosy few beers around warm bbq with good food,

Liked Spacious pitch, beautiful site

Disliked No toilet roll, hand soup or blue roll to dry hands pretty much the whole weekend. Cleaner came and still didn't stock up. Pheasant shooting happening during the day absolutely terrified our dog. Rang the owners to politely ask if they knew when it would end so we could take him away for a bit, said they couldn't hear it (no way possible it was so loud) and they would find out and call back but never did.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to write a review.
The toilets are cleaned and restocked daily. Iam not quite sure how they had ran out.
Iam quite confused regarding the claims of pheasant shooting going off.
Game shooting is out off season so this can not be true.
If you look on the BASC website this will give you the dates of shooting season. This might be useful for you and your dog.
Unfortunately when you visit the country side especially where we are in a very rural area you will come across different noises ,smells and a total different environment than other areas.
Some people enjoy it and unfortunately some don’t.

Great to wake up to farm sounds. Small, authentic and isolated.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Very clean toilets and hot shower (cleaned daily whilst we were staying), lovely scenery, good pitch size (good ground for pitching tents) easy to find location and a bonus of friendly cats on site.

Disliked Only cold water for washing dishes, you could hear the nearby quarry but only during working hours and it wasn't too loud, just distand rumbles and thumps

Liked Nothing

Disliked Very rude warden when we entered. Not made to feel welcome at all. Also told us off for playing football. We were the only people here and weren’t noisy. Do not stay here there are far friendlier and nicer places near by.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to write a review.
We don’t have a warden on site so iam not quite sure who you spoke to.
Both myself and husband who own the site are unaware of this.
When people want to play football we usually let them go into the field next to the site depending on what animals are in it at the time.
There was a contact number on the text for your pitch number to ring should there of been a problem.
Should you have rang the number we would have been more than happy to assist you. Also to see who was claiming to be the warden as this is quite concerning.

Route directions

The entrance to the site is on Flagg Lane (not The Jarnett). There is a signpost opposite the turning for Long Field Farm and Lane End Farm Trust. Look out for the fixed sheep pens at the top of the track, then follow the lane down to the site entrance on the right and look for your numbered pitch. If you type Lane End Farm Trust into your sat nav that should take you to the campsite.

Local attractions

If your walking boots are a camping essential, take them over to the Tissington Trail for a fine 13-mile route through the Derbyshire countryside. The route commences a 25-minute drive away in Ashbourne. For a shorter trail, the Monsal Trail is 15 minutes away – it's easier on the feet with a less demanding 8.5-mile route. For adrenaline seekers, Carsington Water is half an hour’s drive away. Here, you can hire kayaking kit or try out windsurfing if you're feeling extra ambitious. If watersports aren't your strong suit, their taster sessions will help to ease you in to the relevant techniques. For other activities that will raise your heart rate, there’s an outdoor pool in Hathersage 25 minutes away and several indoor pools within a 25-minute drive. Further afield, take a whirl on the rollercoasters at Alton Towers, a 40-minute drive away and with plenty to fill a full day. At Matlock Farm Park (30 minutes), a collection of cute animals should keep kids entertained; they can give horse riding a go too or gently feed the lambs if they're seeking some quieter time.
