Right in the heart of the Peak District National Park, Dale Farm Rural Campsite near Bakewell is a quiet countryside place for those who like quiet countryside camping.

And for those who like cycling too, as you'll find the Monsal Trail a short pedal away from your peaceful pitch, eight and a half miles of traffic-free trail passing Bakewell on its route from Topley Pike to Darley Dale. And hiking: the Monsal Trail is a hoot on foot too and as it's the Peak District, many more miles can be found to pound nearby. (And for those who like trad country pubs: three are within a mile of the farm.)

Dale Farm Rural Campsite is on a working farm and has a loo block with washing-up area, and a small shop selling produce and award-winning baking from the farm.

Our first visit to Dale Farm sure it won,t be our last .Site is on a working farm and only a hard working family of three to work on the farm & maintain the campsite so periods in the day when there will be no one personally available to deal with requests etc but sure only a phone call away from help . The site is in a beautiful
peaceful setting yet only a stones throw away from the village and its amenities just the perfect location for us and as keen walkers plenty of variety in the area in that respect .Pitches are generously sized but could be very tight accessing site & pitch for caravans(we had a folding camper) certainly a motor mover would be a necessity on some pitches .
Facilities are basic but clean £1 for a shower but you do get a full 5 mins + and lovely and hot to so we have no complaints there.
Will definitely be returning in the future so well done the Dale farm team .

Great location, clean facilities, nice and quiet. 09/10/2018

Site is in a great location close to the Monsal Trail, Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock. A very quiet spot with no traffic noise etc. and 3 very good pubs nearby. I booked this site based on the location and the fact that it allows campfires, something sadly missing from a lot of sites.

Pitch a was a non-electric hillside pitch (13) which was big enough for a 3 man tent, gazebo and the car.

Amenities are basic but all very clean and in good working order The one shower situation was not an issue, you just have to be a bit flexible as to when you go, you're on holiday in a field, chill out. We never had to queue. Worth noting the shower is nice and warm and a good pressure.

We particularly like the green credentials of the site with a host of recycling bins, solar lights and the composting toilet.

We didn't try the meat products from the farm shop, (one of us is veggie), but did buy eggs, brownies and firewood. Some very nice products on offer though.

There is no reception office but a combination of the camp manual sent out before we arrived and notice boards on the entrances meant we could find our pitch quite easily, if you read what you are sent you shouldn't have an issue. Just keep your eyes peeled for the notices on arrival.

Found Joanna, Nick and John absolutely fine to deal with and enjoyed talking farm & tractor stuff. You are staying at their home so behave and you'll be fine.

Most visitors seemed to bring a dog with them, but if you are more of a cat person there is Felix the farm cat who regularly makes the rounds and can by enticed into a cuddle with a bit of chicken and an ear rub!

Lovely campsite - me and some family rented pitches on the glamping field, with a couple of other family members renting one of the bell tents (which they loved). We loved the site, it has great facilities, the owners are friendly and accommodating, the shop is nice, the shower is really good (nice and warm!) and everything is well-maintained and clean. I’d definitely recommend to friends!

Local attractions

Pretty much all whims are whetted in the Peak District, whether you're into outdoor photography, climbing, caving, mountain biking, hiking, rambling, sightseeing or shopping for Peak District produce and souvenirs.

Monsal Head of Monsale Dale is on the Monsale Trail and less than a mile away from Dale Farm Rural Campsite. It's one of the top spots in the region for stopping and taking pics of the River Wye, its dale and the utterly gorge Headstone Viaduct, so prepare to spend some time gazing around.

A few miles from base, the sweet town of Bakewell is another highly popular Peak District stop and is the only market town in the national park.

Also a few miles away, Chatsworth House is yet another much-visited Peak highlight and has been voted several times as Britain's fave country house. Austen fan? This is the house Elizabeth visited in Pride and Prejudice and it was used as Pemberley in the BBC's 2005 adaptation. Yes, that one, with Colin Firth, in the lake…

Must see

  • Haddon Hall (6.2 kilometers)
  • Chatsworth (6.5 kilometers)
  • Sir Richard Arkwright's Masson Mills (17.5 kilometers)
