Lovely little site, basic but everything you need.

Aug 2024

Liked I liked how quiet it was, the toilet/shower block was great, kept tidy and clean, the showers were the best, hot and powerful. The toilet/shower block was part of a cabin which had the pot washing area, you also had use of a microwave and kettle if you needed it and access to jigsaws and some books. I also liked how when you went to the loo there was a little gaggle of geese that waddled over to see you.

Disliked The pitch that we were allocated was spoilt by the overgrown hedgerow (we were at the bottom end in the corner) it just needed a strimmer taking to it, so that you could see over the fence to see the lovely jersey cows and also the views in the distance.

From the manager: Thank you for reviewing your stay. The ducks are very popular with guests staying on the campsite. They are very friendly indeed. There is always a balance to be had with the amount or not of cutting the grass and strimming the hedges. The wildlife love the nettles, but the guests would like the banks strimmed. I will bear your comments in mind, because, yes there is a lovely view of the countryside beyond the campsite. We do have 3 pitches which do not have a hedgebank, and have wonderful views, but the pitch you stayed in is the most sheltered spot and reserved for tents like yourself.

Nice site, owner needs to establish tree climbing rules!

Aug 2024

Liked Felt like a nice family friendly site on arrival. Level pitches around the edge of the field. They have two friendly goats pottering about the site.

Disliked Toilet/shower block was ok, the single shower was tiny, if you're a bigger person you are going to struggle, to the point where you might have to be extracted by some big suction device, so if you don't think you'll fit don't go in! Wait until the little bathroom is free for your own safety. My child was photographed by the owner with another child climbing a tree, we were threatened that if they did it again we would be kicked off site. That made me want to leave right there and then. If you don't want children climbing specific trees put a sign up that says 'do not climb this tree'. To later find out that it's ok to climb the tree in the middle of the field, which also doesn't have any signs, sends mixed messages. Put a sign up and stop photographing children!

From the manager: Thank you for your possitive feedback.Yes this is a nice friendly site and this is reflected in all the reviews we have. Unfortunately your child was found 30 feet up in a tree within our gated woodland area, the gate is signed clearly stating that children should be supervised at all times. I asked the child to climb down to which he replied he couldn't as he was too scared. I then called our groundsman to bring a 4 stage ladder. In this time, no responsible parent was seen despite other parents within the campsite trying to find the parents of this child. Once we managed to help the scared child back down to the ground safely, I then eventually found the parent which I assume was yourself. I showed you a photo of your child stuck in the tree so you would understand the serverity of this incident. I deleted the photo right in front of you. By no other choice I then gave you our site instruction that if we found your child unsupervised climbing trees within the woodland again, you will be asked to leave site. We run a lovely little campsite here and we pride our selves in maintaining the safety and experience here for all the parents and children. We are fully aware that it only takes 1 irrisponsible person to ruin it for the rest of our holiday makers, and for that reason we are unable to accept any further bookings from yourself and your party.

Excellent site with very clean facilities and level pitches.

Aug 2024

Liked All of it! Big pitch right next to the loos, didn't have to walk miles when you needed to spend a penny 😁 The site was so clean and well maintained, the toilet/shower block was immaculate, plenty of loos, showers, sink points and there was two cubicles with sinks in for a bit of privacy, also had a hair dryer in, great 😃 and you had greatest hits radio playing in the background so could sing in the shower! It's very vell situated for Cheltenham and Gloucester and for us it was a stop off before heading down to North Devon as we were travelling from West Yorkshire. Free WiFi which was excellent, all campsites should have free Wifi. From here we cycled into Cheltenham for a trip out on our first night, and the next day as we had a full day we cycled to Gloucester which was brilliant as there is a very good cycle route that keeps you away from the busy roads.

Excellent site with clean facilities and friendly staff.

Aug 2024

Liked Very helpful owners who made sure our pitch was big enough for our tent on arrival. The shower/toilet block was very clean and well maintained. The washing up area adjoined this and was under cover and had an external light if you needed it. There was a dog field near reception, with a bench at each end with lovely views. If you find you've run out of dog poop bags there are some there for you to use. Free WiFi, excellent, every campsite should have free Wifi. There is also a little building that houses a games room and has a pool table in there, a fridge/freezer and some books and games. From here we visited the Fingle Bridge Inn for Sunday lunch which was delicious (10 minute drive), get there early for a parking space, it's very popular! We also visited Exeter (20 minutes drive) to go paddleboarding on the River Exe, also get there early for a decent parking spot. Do your research 😁

Liked I liked that you checked in online before arrival and was able to do this a couple of days beforehand. The campsite is set out very well, even though it's a big site, the way it's designed with the hedges creating streets and dividing pitches gives you privacy on your pitch and feels cosy. We were pitched next to the dog field which was very handy as we had our dog Freda with us. The toilet/shower block was very clean and had a hair dryer in which was great. Plenty of loos, showers and sinks. Also liked having free WiFi, all campsites should have free Wifi, so thank you 😊 The pot wash stations were great as they were indoors in sheds and had a freezer in which I made use of for our ice packs. In here too there was lots of tourist information leaflets for the local area.

Excellent site with very clean facilities and a very friendly owner.

Aug 2024

Liked What a fantastic campsite. On arrival I met Pip the owner, who was very helpful and gave us a printout of all important information that we needed to know and useful information about local amenities and showed us to our pitch. It had everything we needed, a fabulous clean and well maintained shower block, hot showers, plenty of room by the showers for all your stuff so you didn't have to worry about it getting wet, never ran out of loo roll or hand wash and the loos didn't have the your typical camping daddy long legs flying about in them. It's a lovely peaceful campsite too, you're not pitched on top of each other and have lots of room around your tent so you don't hear the conversations from your neighbours. We had our dog Freda with us, who loved making use of the 2 acre dog pen. From here we visited Ross-on-Wye to go paddleboarding on the River Wye and the following day to have a wonder around the town. I feel though that there is so much more to visit around the area and would love to stay again for a longer duration.

Disliked Was a bit of a trek to the loos, did get good at planning strategic wees and kept an eye on when I had my last drink at night to avoid having to get up in the night to go😆

Aug 2024

Liked Small site, plenty of showers and loos. Ideally situated for visiting Alnwick (20 minutes drive) and local town of Amble. Visited Druridge Bay visitors centre too which was a nice day out with kids and paddle boarding on the lake only 10 minutes drive away.

Disliked Not enough loo roll, shower block needs a bit of TLC.

Good site set in a peaceful location, perfect for stargazing.

Aug 2024

Liked At night when it was clear you could see so many stars, I even saw a shooting star on our last evening. I loved the location, Bellingham was a 2 mile walk away along the river and it was a fifteen minute drive to Kielder Water. The staff were very helpful in the cafe, so thank you 😊

Disliked The toilets and showers were below par. It didn't bother me that they were being refurbed, but the shower wasn't powerful enough, you didn't have enough room to put your stuff down without it getting wet so had to be very strategic with what you took, needed more hooks. Always had to be mindful which loo you picked to make sure you had loo roll. Not pleasant having to walk passed the cesspit on your way down to the loos or main building from your tent.

Excellent site with stunning views

July 2024

Liked The bathrooms 😲 wow! They are like hotel bathrooms, outstanding 👏🏻 The views, to the West with the sunset you can see Ingleborough, to the East I believe you can see the top of Malham Cove... Correct me if I'm wrong on this. Electric was metered which I haven't experienced before, for 3 nights it only cost us £2 extra, bargain!

Disliked Could have done with an extra bathroom or two as there were only two for the whole site and you had to plan to have a shower or have a strategic wee.

Excellent spacious site with a cracking sea view.

July 2024

Liked What a lovely campsite. I like that you can pitch up wherever you like. We faced the entrance of the tent to have a sea view. It's a big spacious field so you're not crowded by other tents. At the North end of the field you have access to the beach which is very handy, it's a stunning beach, we walked for miles with our dog. The toilet and shower blocks are great, very clean, the showers are very powerful and hot (and also very cold if that's what you like). There is a big style American fridge freezer by the shower block which we used to for our ice packs. The washing up area is also very good. It's a short walk to a Tesco (with a cash machine) or a 5 minute drive into Withernsea where there is an Aldi, so no need to do a food shop before you go as we went after we'd pitched up.

Disliked Only grumble - Ran out of paper towels to dry hands in the toilet and shower block.
