Tiny, peaceful and scenic are the watchwords at Naturwunder Stellplätze, just outside the (also tiny) village of Eckersdorf in Upper Austria. If you like nature, outdoor adventure or a combination of the two, this could be the place for you – it’s surrounded by fabulous walking and bike trails through forests and green hilly scenery. And that’s before you even get to the big selling point – the Schlögen Loop on the mighty Danube river, about half a kilometre away. The site has been set up to provide a truly peaceful place to stay – there are just a handful of pitches here, so there’s heaps of space to breathe the fresh air and soak up the views. This is not a place of colourful play areas or noisy entertainments, but families are still very welcome and everyone can have a dip in the outdoor pool to cool off on a warm day. Simple facilities are on hand – you’ll have access to toilets, showers, a chemical disposal point and wifi – and you’re welcome to light up a barbecue or campfire for a traditional outdoor evening. Haibach ob der Donau (five minutes’ drive) is your nearest source of shops and places to eat, and there are plenty of traditional inns scattered around the local countryside where you can sample local dishes.

A ripper spot with ace views & heaps of space. Owners are legends, great value too. Perfect for walks, bikes & farm critters. A few less loos than some expected, but cleaned heaps. Watch for the lights & dodgy slopes for big rigs. A few flies buzzed about.

Liked Wir waren v 30.07.-08.07.26 auf dem schönen Platz am Hof v der freundlichen Betreiberfamilie . Wir hatten erholsame Tage vor Ort. Fühlten uns rundherum wohl u immer gut umsorgt. Danke dafür.

Liked Small quiet site with farm animals around. Peaceful stay and a super welcome from the owners. Great for cycling and walking but be aware the river is well below the campsite.

Disliked Nothing to dislike however tall Motorhomes need to be careful of overhead lights and have decent ramps for gently sloping ground.

Es reicht doch wen eine Dusche und 2 wc vorhanden sind

Sie sind leider nicht aus Marmor aber sie sind sauber da ich selber mehrmals am tag putze

Local attractions

The Schlögen Loop is one of the biggest draws in this area, and there’s good news for customers at Naturwunder Stellplätze – because it’s only about 500 metres away from the site. Getting down there for a close view is an excellent thing, and you’ll be able to take a walk along the Donausteig hiking trail or ride the Donauradweg bike trail to see some more of the scenery. That said, for the full effect of the 180-degree bend you’ll really need to see it from above by visiting the Schlögener Blick viewpoint (10 minutes’ drive). For more outdoor adventures, take a walk around the Kerzenstein (25 minutes), a granite rock shaped like a candle, or head up into the treetops on the elevated wooden walkway at Baumkronenweg (35 minutes). Meeting the wildlife at Tierpark Altenfelden (40 minutes) is often popular with families, as is simply riding the Donaubus ferry along the river from Au (25 minutes). Dip into local history by visiting the ruins of Schaunberg Castle (20 minutes) and the much more intact Marsbach Castle (20 minutes). Meanwhile, Römerbad and Römerpark Schlögen (10 minutes) showcases the area’s Roman history at its open-air museum.
