Towy Valley Caravan Park: Peaceful site

General

  • Compact and friendly adults-only site in the scenic Towy valley
  • Just off the A40, 15 mins' drive from Carmarthen and 10 from Llandeilo
  • Welsh landmarks such as Aberglasney Gardens around five minutes away

Sandwiched between two working dairy farms in a cracking countryside setting is adults-only Towy Valley Caravan Park, with views of the green Carmarthenshire surrounds. It's also in a strategic sightseeing position between the towns of Llandeilo and Carmarthen, and just off the main A40 road.

But where to first…? Perhaps have a gander at the gorgeous Edwardian cloister gardens of Aberglasney, just over five minutes’ drive away, or the National Botanic Garden of Wales and its massive single-span glasshouse (it’s the longest in the world…), about 10 minutes away.

All those heady floral scents got you feeling the need for another lie-down? Head back to the park – preferably with some treats picked up in Llandeilo, about 10 minutes away, for a meal while watching the sun go down across the valley scenery.

Towy Valley Caravan Park has free modern and heated shower and bathroom facilities. Washing-up and chemical disposal facilities are also available, and public transport is accessible from just outside the site if you’d like to travel the region without your vehicle.

Warm welcome when we were given the option of two pitches and had a tour of the facilities, which were immaculately clean and well thought out - a Ty Bach ( Welsh for toilet) ,with handbasin, very close to the camping area, plus access to the ladies/gents toilets in what was originally a pub, plus a disabled loo/wash hand basin.
Two fully enclosed shower rooms- one with dual showers- both with a seat/shelf and plenty of hooks for clothes/towels plus a wall mounted radiator.
We mentioned that hooks for wash kits would be handy in the Ty Bach and they were in place when we returned that evening...can't beat that positive attitude and good service!
Washing up area undercover, with good deep sinks and, like the showers, plentiful hot water.
There is a cafe on site- open I think from Thurs-Sun- we called back in on our way home for a breakfast baguette.
Small flock of chickens on site- quite entertaining!
People have mentioned road noise, but it didn't really make an impact on us and it was very quiet through the night.
Pleasant restful feel to site which has fields around it with some lovely old oaks.
Very convenient location, beside the main Carmarthen to Llandovery road- ideal for Botanic Gardens and the castles Dryslwyn and Carreg Cennen .

Lovely quiet site, facilities were spotlessly clean we liked the double shower room nice hot water and plenty of space. Pitch was a good size, flat and with water, electricity, site is in easy driving distance of both Aberglasny and the National Botanic Garden both worth a visit. Great to have free range chickens on site too, all in all a great break will probably be back. Simon was a great host but we didn't get a chance to visit Daffies.

Local attractions

The Towy Valley is home to a clutch of excellent Welsh sights, from the hilltop Dinefwr Castle, a 15-minute drive away (climb up to the walls for stunning views over the countryside), to the sweeping estuary and castle at the pretty village of Laugharne (half an hour).

Another must-see castle, Carreg Cennen, sits on the top of a limestone precipice around a 20-minute drive away, with views across the Brecon Beacons National Park; get your hiking boots on for walks around this area, one of Wales’ most postcard-worthy, passing by waterfalls and ponds enroute. (Still more appetite for castles? Drive to Dryslwyn Castle in five minutes – or hike over in about 45 minutes.)

If you’re feeling lazy, drive to Carmarthen (20 minutes from the site) instead to jump on the Gwili Steam Railway’s antique train or dip in and out of the boutiques. Love a legend? Locals reckon Merlin was born in this market town – there are even the remains of an old oak tree named after the wizard in the foyer of St. Peter’s Civic Hall.

Must see

  • National Botanic Garden of Wales (3.6 kilometres)
  • Aberglasney Gardens (4.9 kilometres)
  • Carreg Cennen Castle (12.0 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Aberdeunant (9.6 kilometres)
