  • Peaceful dog-friendly site with views over Cardigan Bay
  • A 35-minute walk from New Quay; footpath to the Wales Coast Path
  • Shops and pubs in New Quay; playground and dog exercise area on site
Raring to go dolphin-spotting on the Wales Coast Path or fishing on a boat trip from New Quay? Very well – here’s Tyr Ffynnon Farm, an advantageous base for such coastal adventures. With 180-degree views over Cardigan Bay and a location just 35 minutes’ walk from New Quay, it would have been a shame to keep this quiet 38-acre working sheep farm for sheep only. Now, families and dogs (on leads) are welcome to come and relax at the elevated peninsular spot. There are plenty of walking areas away from the traffic – and just a couple of hundred metres from the entrance, there’s a public footpath where guests can join the Wales Coast Path. Spectacular views and the chance to spot dolphins… yes please. The coastal path passes through lively New Quay, where activities such as boat trips, sailing, fishing and watersports are on the agenda. Also called Cei Newydd, New Quay has a pretty harbour, sandy beaches and a sound selection of shops, pubs and restaurants for all your foodie desires. The pièce de resistance at Tyr Ffynnon Farm surely has to be the sublime sea-view sunsets that can be seen from the site. Other ace features include the modern shower and toilet facilities, which have hot electric showers, wash basins, toilets, electric hand dryers and electric sockets for hairdryers (in the ladies’ only) and a shaver point (in the gents’). Those with mini family members will also be pleased to find a playground and a fenced dog exercise area on site. Bonus points – the peaceful, friendly site is 20 minutes’ drive from Aberaeron, 35 minutes from Cardigan and 45 minutes from Aberystwyth.

What customers say

Great spot with killer sea views & big sites. Owners are legends! Toilets & showers are spick and span. Easy walk to New Quay. Perfect for families. Tiny gripes: lane's a bit tight, need cash for showers. Top marks for peace and scenery!

Liked Toilet block was great. Pitches were generous in size. Plenty of room for the grandchildren to run around. Helpful staff. A walk along the coast path is a great way to see nature!

Disliked Long walk to empty the chemical toilet, the emptying point is not close to the lovely toilet block, but at the far end of the next field: worth bearing in mind if this is an issue for you.
The almost 1 mile lane, from the main road to the site is, very narrow in places.

Liked One of the best camp sites I’ve ever been to in Wales, the Views are out of this world! Sunsetting right behind the tent. Toilet facilities are brilliant and clean and tidy. Do be mindful when to shower which is normal when at a camp site. They had a shared freezer which was a plus. There’s a small park for the kids. The staff were absolutely helpful. With a 5 minute walk to the coastal path where you can watch the seals and dolphins. Remember you are in Wales, so a single lane road to the campsite. The single road was beautiful to walk along at night watching the bats. There was plenty Electic hookup areas. With the host of Electic at the moment, 20pence for a 2 minute shower is actually a bargain. The cost of the campsite for a tent was a bargain. I defiantly will be back again. So much to do in the area…

Disliked Nothing at all was such a pleasant place to go! If you love walks and wildlife this place is the best place to go

Liked Showers were good
Welcome was excellent
Everything explained well
Super duper clean! Really impressive levels of cleanliness
Organised refuse collection
Nice to be able to see the sea
Walkable to New Quay (which is lush)
Easy to get to lots of super lovely towns and beaches.
Freezer space available
Good value
…but still felt ‘simple’ and unfussy

Disliked A map or instructions to get to New Quay up in wall would be great addition

Roads are very narrow around the area and reception can be on and off…so if you are a very unconfident driver it can be a bit hairy

Liked The views are very, very good. The facilities are kept spotlessly clean. The site staff are very friendly and helpful. The site is approx ten minutes walk from the stunning coastal path and "dolphin-watching cliff-top shelter" and it's walkable into New Quay in roughly 35 minutes.

Disliked The showers are 20p for 2 minutes up to a maximum of £1 for 10 minutes. This is good as it keeps the queues down. The downside is if you only want a really quick (2 minute) shower, the water takes up to 30 seconds to regulate the temperature because they're electric, so 40p minimum is recommended.
There is no shaver point in the gents toilet block, although there is a plug socket next to a large mirror, so don't forget your adaptor if you've got an electric-only shaver.

Local attractions

Days out in Aberaeron (20 minutes’ drive) – a regency town with a Georgian harbour and multi-coloured houses – could be spent taking yet more coastal walks, tucking into tapas and scallops around the harbour or licking a honey-flavoured ice cream by the sea. Strolls or fishing along the river Teifi might make it onto your itinerary in Cardigan (35 minutes). The town’s castle is on the riverside and has its own escape room. Another historical spot is in St Dogmaels (40 minutes), where there are abbey ruins with medieval roots. Aberystwyth (45 minutes) is much more than a university town. It’s also home to the National Library of Wales, a free museum and heaps of interesting shops. Elsewhere along the coast, Penbryn beach (25 minutes) is accessed through woodlands from the Wales Coast Path. A short detour from here will get you to Tresaith Waterfall (25 minutes).
