Out on a walk

  • Wiltshire farm site with views over Salisbury Cathedral
  • Just off the A354, three miles from central Salisbury
  • A mile from the closest pub; direct footpath access
Set on a large grassy meadow, this friendly site in Wiltshire is conveniently located for Salisbury, Stonehenge, the New Forest and the Jurassic Coast. The impressive 123-metre spire of Salisbury Cathedral is visible from this quiet spot, as are acres of rolling green countryside and flocks of peaceful farm animals. Salisbury Campsite at Bake Farm is a place for back to basics camping: its simple facilities include chemical disposal, toilets, wash basins and a warm shower. Essentials sorted, it's time to relax: and that's perhaps best done in the large repurposed field shelter, where you can take a seat and gaze out over the stunning views (drink in hand optional, but recommended…). The site is conveniently set a few hundred yards back from the A354 road, making it a breeze to get into Salisbury city centre and make use of its public pool, railway station, arts centre, cafés and shops. Coombe Bissett, a mile in the other direction, also has a popular local pub. With plenty of space and Bake Farm's sheep for company, this outdoorsy spot is also a hotspot for walkers. Guests here have direct access to a good range of rights of way. Popular strolls in the area include the 25-mile-long Clarendon Way that runs from Salisbury to Winchester, hiking up Harnham Hill and ambling around Salisbury's water meadows. Please note that Salisbury Campsite at Bake Farm is only suitable for guests aged five and over. Children are welcome, although the site is designed to be quiet and there are no play facilities or attractions for them.

What customers say

This is a peaceful, well-kept site with roomy, flat spots & lovely country views. Owners are friendly & helpful, facilities are clean & basic (hot showers, flushing loos), with handy extras like USB charging & a covered shelter. Great for walks into Salisbury. Be aware of potential shower queues & a lack of rubbish bins at peak times.

Liked Lovely little campsite with clean facilities. Staff very friendly and helpful. A nice little hut for charging devices and freezer to use if needed. Quiet site, no road noise and very convenient for Salisbury and surrounding areas. And free WiFi that worked across the site!

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked A Quiet site with all people there respectful of each other, not crowded either.
Tory came around to say hello and point people in the right direction which was nice.
Twenty mins walk from the pub and connected directly for walking and cycling the areas around.
Enjoyed my couple of days and would definitely return.

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Lovely view, great and thorough recommendations for walking, cycling etc, wonderful hot shower, handy charging points, level pitch, generally attracts nice, quiet people. The covered seating area affords the opportunity to chat with fellow campers.

Disliked Nothing to dislike :)
(As others have mentioned, you can hear the nearby road a bit, but it's just far enough away not to spoil the peaceful atmosphere.)

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Lovely large field which was dry and well drained, surrounded by fields. Just see the spire of the cathedral in the distance. In the evening saw deer walking across adjoining fields. Was peaceful and quiet. Owner very kind and helpful.
Facilities were really clean. A nice little communal area with freezer and charging points.

Disliked Nothing about the campsite it was lovely. But route into town on the bicycle was rough and one part was overgrown with nettles.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Yet again bake farm didn’t disappoint. Lovely well kept field friendly staff and welcoming. New showers and toilets have been installed and absolutely spotless. My grandchildren slept like logs as did I, and had a great time. So thoughtful to have charging ports….as teenagers need their phones, also a little sheltered area so we were able to eat dinner whilst it rained. We also met some lovely people that were staying on the campsite. I would wholly recommend this campsite and it’s also excellent value for money. Thank you bake farm for a great stay and your lovely facilities. Oh btw did I mention the water?? We were able to drink the most amazing tasting water that is from their own stream!!! I’d happily bottle it and drink it at home xx

Local attractions

After exploring the historic buildings of Salisbury, head even further back in time at Stonehenge (20 minutes' drive), an iconic English Heritage-managed landmark a few miles north of the town. More ancient history is within your reach if you drive to Avebury (55 minutes), home to a spectacular stone circle and other Neolithic sites in the scenic countryside of north Wiltshire. To the south, there's the New Forest National Park (20 minutes), where cycling, walking, country pubs and semi-wild ponies, donkeys and pigs make for great family-friendly days out. Even more wild animals are on display at Longleat Safari Park (40 minutes), while for high-adrenaline tree-top adventures and forest segway escapades there's Go Ape in Moors Valley Country Park (30 minutes). If being so close to Salisbury has you in the mood for more urban days out, you might like to take the train (or drive) to Bath (roughly an hour), while for some sun and sand you could head south to the beaches, piers and classic seaside amusements on offer in Bournemouth (40 minutes).
