  • Riverside site within the grounds of an adventure and wildlife park
  • Within a 25-minute drive of Bristol and Bath; Cheddar Gorge 45 minutes
  • Dog-friendly; experience the park out of hours; watersports rental
The name tells you two key things about Avon Valley Adventure Park – namely, that it sits right on the banks of the River Avon, and that it is within the grounds of the eponymous park. This translates into 24-hour access to the wildlife park for the ultimate out-of-hours experience. Now, how’s that for a welcome to the West Country? This dog-friendly site is packed with adventure. You can catch a sunrise with the alpacas or watch the sun go down over the Dinosaur Valley, with its huge collection of animatronic dinosaurs. There are also plenty of outdoor play areas in the adventure park. There are paddleboards and kayaks for hire (and lessons available, if you’ve never had a go before), or you’re welcome to bring your own. Afterwards, rinse off in the site’s hot showers. You may very well be quite hungry after taking advantage of the riverside location. If you’re planning to be chef for the break, there are firepits for hire; if you don’t fancy cooking, the burger kitchen will take care of the chopping and sizzling for you. The Deck bar is open every evening during high season and runs a happy hour. With roaming animals and inclusive entry to the adventure park (from your arrival date to your departure date), this is a very family-friendly getaway. A final bonus point: there are excellent access roads, with Bristol, Bath and the Monarch’s Way within a 25-minute drive.

What customers say

Campers love the heaps of activities & 24hr adventure park, brilliant for little ones. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Downsides? Toilets/showers have ongoing problems (locking, cleanliness) and some found the campsite less fab than the park. Food's pricey too. Still, many keen to come back!

Liked Park is nice. Some lovely things to do. And great that open later for campers and community on fridays
Staff very friendly and helpful.

Disliked The adventure park could have a bit of TLC. In removing/replacing any thing damaged. And the doors to the toilets by the camp grounds need some TLC. They dont shut or lock.

Explorer safari tent

Liked Staff and activities are excellent. So much to occupy the children and therefore the adults able to enjoy themselves too!

Disliked Would like separate sinks for hand washing and dishwashing. If cleaning aids were available, we would be happy to do interim clean.

Liked There was nothing to like

Disliked The park was advertised as a cool campsite with activities. The 'campsite' was a car park. The activity park was run-down with sad-looking animals.

I arrived thinking my 10- and 12-year-old would have a bunch of kids to play with at the campsite and access to the park. No one was camping there. The toilets were disgusting. Showers were worse. Bins were overflowing.

The slip and slide was slow.

The age demographic was 7 and under. No facilities on site to gain access to the river.

The map makes it look better than it is.

Disliked If I need to say a dislike it was the toilets, they were clean, it's the doors very stiff and some have been pulled hart and broken the lock.

Liked Bijna niks

Liked The park itself was amazing for my 4, 6, 9 yrs old boys for 1.5 days you can use the park for the full day on the day you leave. We had to head off but had two nights and spent from 3pm on the day we arrived until 8pm in the park and a full day the next day. I think more than two whole days and they'd have been getting bored but for the time we had it was back to back fun and all the different things going on.

It's really nice that when the park shuts at 5pm (after the awesome foam party ends) everyone camping / staying stays on and so you then have an evening park scene with the kids playing in the really good sand and water pit or the impressive indoor playbarn (which has slides and other things to keep any child from 2 to 10 entertained for a good time) both of which near to the bar.

The camping pitches were decent enough and no-one partying late when we were there like some of the reviews say and I suspect most of the time the guests are all with young children and so the general vibe is family friendly.

Disliked The toilet doors are still a bit tough to shut properly for some of them. It didn't really bother me and my boys but I can see how it could be annoying for some.

There is a train track just the other side of the camping area but they run only every half hour (or so it seems) and aren't that noisy (I'm a fairly light sleeper and didn't get woken).

Liked Great place, good facilities as advertised, pitch was close to everything. Some lovely families staying as well and everyone respectful of noise etc, and given the access to the park this was ideal for kids. Thank you we had a great time.

Local attractions

From ancient Roman baths to elegant Georgian architecture, the city of Bath (20 minutes’ drive) is well worth a visit. Check out the collections at the Victoria Art Gallery and the Holburne Museum (keep an eye on their calendar for interactive workshops), or follow in the footsteps of Jane Austen, who lived here for five years in the early 1800s. Explore the legacy of Isambard Kingdom Brunel in Bristol (25 minutes), where the famed Victorian engineer built the vertiginous Clifton Suspension Bridge and the passenger liner SS Great Britain. Bristol is also known for its street art, which includes Banksy’s take on The Girl with the Pearl Earring. In the Mendip Hills National Landscape, Cheddar Gorge (45 minutes) is a limestone gorge with guided tours of subterranean caves. There are more limestone caverns at Wookey Hole (45 minutes), which have a millennia-long history ranging from Neanderthals to Celt tribes and the Romans.
