What customers say

Beautiful, peaceful riverside spot with friendly staff. Well-kept pitches, mostly clean facilities. Great for exploring Western Lakes, with a handy pub nearby. Some Wi-Fi niggles and dated bits, but most reckon it's top-notch and will be back.

Powered concrete and grass caravan site

Liked Everything, this site is so well maintained with fabulous riverside pitches. Clean toilets and showers, cost is 50pence for 10 minutes with the showers being roomy and hot. BH weekend so site was full but pitches spaced well so didn’t invade privacy and was quiet at night. Walks straight from campsite, pub next store and WiFi which although signal patchy at times was a bonus as not often you have signal in lakes and waking up to cockerels was a real treat

Disliked Nothing.. would recommend

Liked Lovely site, warm and friendly welcome, lots of great walking in the area and not far from Wastwater which is stunningly beautiful. Next door to a great pub which serves excellent food. Have stayed here before and will definitely come back.

Liked The location was amazing. Close to Wast water and 2 beautiful beaches. The campsite itself was really well.maintained, friendly staff, quiet and had a river running right through it. Pub next door, cafe in walking distance. Loved it.

Liked Lovely campsite, friendly helpful staff

Disliked Really bad smell coming from a discharge pipe into the river. When questioned staff agreed the smell was awful but never had any answers until I pointed out the problem.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site (super)

Liked Location and views from site,as well as proximity to the local pub and river.
Hedges in-between pitches offered a degree of privacy.
Toilet blocks were always clean when we used them, but used our own shower facility so can't comment on 50p value charges

Disliked Be aware if staying on fully serviced pitches 6/7 of people taking short cuts to the road over the wall and walking across your grassed area...quite rude.
Also, whilst it is generally fairly quiet overall, early morning traffic is loud and fast.

Local attractions

Pull on your comfiest boots and walk yourself to merriment around these Cumbrian parts: just over five miles away in Wasdale is one of Britain’s tiniest churches, St Olafs, with its timber beams thought to have been made from Viking ships. Hikers, hotstep to the mighty heights of Scafell Pike and Great Gable (both about seven miles away) and Red Pike (approximately 20 miles north of the site). At the Wasdale Valley, as well as nurturing peaks aplenty, canoeists, kayakers and windsurfers alike will rapidly make their way to Wast Water, just five minutes from the site, the deepest lake in the UK. Cycling and walking routes around the lakes and mountains are plentiful, as are the chances for boating and fishing, but if you really want to go off-piste, you could try abseiling, climbing, a high ropes course, or even flying: hot air balloon and paragliding experiences are available for those who want to soar even higher than Scafell.
