What customers say
Great spot by the lake near Castle Howard. Staff are friendly & facilities (showers, loos) are clean & plentiful. Pitches are spacious. It's peaceful, though can get a bit busy and noisy when full. Phone signal's patchy, no shop on site. Still, most reckon they'll be back!

From the manager: What a lovely review Tina. It is great to read that you approved of Lakeside and will hopefully return for a longer stay.
Would return, but night time security would be helpful

Liked The staff were so friendly and helpful. The surroundings are lovely, the site has everything you need.
It is clean and tidy, shop well stocked snd close to everything we needed.
Disliked Some of the other campers left a lit to be desired. Digs roaming loose and doing tgeur business (i understand this hapoens, but at least clean it up) and one very noisy group.
Dhame as this was not the camps fault.

From the manager: Hello Vicky, We are saddened to learn that the behaviour of some campers was unacceptable during the Bank Holiday weekend. Selfish and disrepectful campers are not welcome here. We do appreciate being told. Any anonymous evidence is welcome and can help us to identify the group so that we can refuse them a pitch in the future and ask them to leave if necessary. Our security team do visit at night but we shall ask them to be extra viligent especially on busy weekends. A member of staff had approached them before they departed and found them to be exceedingly rude. It is not what anyone wants. Thankfully this is a rare occurance at Lakeside. On the positive side we are pleased that the site, the location and the team met your approval and we look forward to welcoming you back one day.

Fine for caravans or motorhomes, but not recommended for campervans.
Powered concrete slab caravan site
Liked Closeness of wash block. Mature trees.
Disliked Characterless. Nowhere near any pubs, shops or services. No access to Castle Howard estate. Lakeside limited. Had corner pitch, so fine to sit out on evening, but some caravans playing music all day and generally an unhappy place. Not a pretty or family friendly site

From the manager: Hello John, I have to admit to being confused by your first comment. Hardstanding pitches and the camping field are both suitable for campervans. We are a peaceful, rural site in natural countryside in the beautiful Howardian Hills next to a lovely lake. I appreciate that our site may not have been as you were expecting but there are pubs less than 3 miles away, (one is walkable off road) ; the market town of Malton with restaurants, bars and shops is only 5 miles. Your stay included a 2 for 1 entry offer into the grounds of Castle Howard which, with free parking and the Courtyard outlets, is only 1 mile away. The allocated pitch you were given is usually one that is requested by those wanting a quiet corner. Perhaps you would have been happier with the campers in the field who on the weekend of your stay, reading Heather G's and Agnieszka's reviews, found us a very friendly, family site. Individual opinions vary but we appreciate you taking the time to write your review.Thank you.

Liked A very nice place, worth recommending to any family with children. Toilets and showers are available, and hot running water is available at all times of the day. It's a great area for walks. And a highlight is Castle Howard, a 4-minute drive away. With its magnificent gardens and a fantastic playground for children, you can spend a wonderful day at a low price.

From the manager: Thanks for your reveiw; we agree- the beautiful Howardian Hills are perfect for walks which are not too strenuous. If you do come to Lakeside again and would prefer a different pitch to the one you are allocated please ask in reception and, when possible, our team will do their best to arrange this for you.
