  • Quiet, rural adults-only site on the Leicestershire-Derbyshire border
  • Donington Park Circuit and the Cloud Trail both five minutes’ drive
  • Countryside views; 10 minutes’ walk from the village pub
Liking the sound of direct access to the National Forest, with its miles of scenic forest tracks for walking and cycling? How about adding in views of Derbyshire’s Priory Church of St Mary and St Hardulph atop Breedon Hill? Camping without any kids? If you’ve answered “yes” to all three questions, then you should be heading for Barley Fields Holidays on the Leicestershire-Derbyshire border. This peaceful adults-only site also has stunning views of the Vale of Belvoir to the east and is a 45-minute drive from the edge of the Peak District National Park. And just when you thought things couldn’t get any better, you’ll be pleased to learn that your dogs can join you, the site has modern showers and loos, and – although barbecues are allowed on site – you’re only 10 minutes’ stroll from a popular Breedon on the Hill pub that serves homecooked food. So… on arrival, get set up and… just chill. Life will take care of itself. Sit back, relax, watch the horses in neighbouring fields and see if you can spot/hear any of the following: cuckoos calling in late spring, swallows arriving on their early summer stop-overs and birds of prey circling overhead. And on clear evenings, you’ll be sure to bag a truly spectacular sunset. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

Liked: Clean and modern shower block.
Nice welcome when i’d nearly finished setting up
Ray very helpful when I stupidly left my electric toothbrush on site

Disliked: Hard standing pitches slightly on a slant, should have used chocks really
No hooks to hang washbag in washrooms
Some noise from airport and Donington Park, but quieter as evening went on

Liked: Easy to find with 10 hard standing areas and a separate area for tents in the field. The wash block looked new and very well thought out. Not sure how it would cope with a full campsite, sadly this will be down to people with not so good personal hygiene, this may affect offers using the facilities. Easy walk to the 2 local pubs and a slightly longer walk to the church on the hill. I would come back again. Oh did I mention it was adults only, shame our neighbours acted like children with ridiculous music being played all night.

From the manager: Thank you for your comments. We have a no music, quiet site rule and had you called us we would immediately have spoken to the people causing the disturbance. Sorry this spoiled your visit.

Liked: Site was lovely. Views were absolutely stunning. Location was excellent. Nice and peaceful.Electric hook up for every pitch plus own water supply at pitch. Local walks and pubs plus shop in easy reach.

Disliked: Slope of pitches were difficult to get motorhome level. Lack of facilities for motorhome. Toilet for blue Elsan emptying a bit awkward.

Liked: Location was close to village pubs
The peacefulness of site
The toilet / shower block

Disliked: Wi-Fi kept dropping
No motorhome grey waste or clean water dumping facilities and not advised at booking would need a wastemaster. If brought our wastemaster it would have been impossible to lift to tip into the toilet provided for grey waste.
Chemical waste was a toilet which was away from the hose located at the grey waste so to use you ended up wet through and covered in clay!
No control in place over motorhome or van position meaning we couldn’t put our awning up as it would have almost touched the MH next to us who drove onto pitch not reversed.
Allowed other MH’s to move to a non pitch next to us because of dogs barking (never heard dogs bark) but did hear the moved MH owners out looking for their dog at 1.30 am as it had got out, this MH was permitted to park sideways making it extremely close to our pitch.
Advised owners would come and see us upon arrival or next day, this didn’t happen which is a shame it would have been lovely to meet them and ask a few questions that were not detailed on the notice board.

Powered concrete slab caravan site

Liked: A very peaceful and well kept site. All facilities are new as the site hasn’t been open long. Great walks from the site, and The Hollybush pub is a nice place for food and drink.

Disliked: Unfortunately the wind was blowing in the wrong direction and the aeroplanes were flying overhead from as early as 4.45am
