  • Rural and peaceful Peak District farm with animals including llamas
  • A five-minute drive to cycling on the Monsal Trail and 15 to Bakewell
  • Tideswell, Castleton, Bamford and Chatsworth all within 20 minutes
Who needs to organise a hol all the way over in South America when you can linger beside the llamas at Five Acres Farm Campsite in Derbyshire? This park full of furry, friendly animals may not be within spitting distance of treks to Macchu Picchu, but it does have Peak District paths for hikes and cycle rides on the Monsal Trail starting from a five-minute drive away. The views are also nothing short of lush: the site is surrounded by wide open fields, and walks can be had without needing to get in the car towards the nearest settlement of Wardlow and up to Hay Cop (20 minutes on foot) for a look over the local landscape. If you’d rather dig into dessert than dawdle, the tarts and puddings of countrywide renown are at Bakewell, the only market town in the Peak District and a 15-minute drive from the site. Not too stuffed to think about stocking up on supplies after sampling the wares? Food stores are here too and other urban areas worth a wander for chocolate-box houses and cutesy craft shops include Tideswell, Castleton, Bamford and Chatsworth, all within 20 minutes. Plenty other activities can be had in these towns too: Tideswell’s got the impressive St John the Baptist Church to have a gander at; Castleton’s known for its caverns where the famed Blue John stone is mined, and Bamford has three different dams to trek around. Chatsworth, meanwhile, is home to swanky stately mansion Chatsworth House – yep, that one mentioned in Pride and Prejudice and regularly voted Britain's top country house.

What customers say

Top-notch campsite with ripper views and a chill vibe. Clean facilities, heaps of space, and friendly owners. Perfect base for the Peak District. Great for families, even has animals! Expect queues sometimes, but most punters loved it and wanna come back.

Liked We had a fantastic stay at this campsite. The grounds were clean, well maintained, and surrounded by beautiful scenery, making it the perfect place to relax. The facilities, including the showers and toilets, were spotless and regularly cleaned. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help with any questions.
The pitches were spacious and offered plenty of privacy, and the site was peaceful, especially in the evenings. It’s a great location with easy access to local walks and attractions. Whether you’re camping with family, friends, or as a couple, this is an excellent place to stay. We’ll definitely be returning and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing camping experience.

Liked Toilets, showers and washing up areas always clean and tidy when we was there. Pitch up where you like and theres plenty of space to choose from, took my grandson for his first camping experience and he loved it and can't wait to go back. As soon as you drive onto the site it looks nice and tidy. This is one of if not the best basic campsite I've stopped at.

Disliked Nothing to dislike here apart from phone signal depending what network your on but you dont go camping to sit on your phone.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Lovely location, lots of space, and extremely clean facilities!

Disliked My only dislike is the lack of space in the fridge / freezers. I was expecting an area where we could keep our meat and drinks cold, but unfortunately the under counter fridge is for "small necessary items only".

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked Great campsite with good facilities which were always so clean! There was a toilet block as well as three individual cubicles, plenty of showers (that were spotless and warm!) and a potwash area. Was great to have a small fridge for essentials and a freezer for ice blocks. The campsite was easy to find and just pitch up wherever when you get there (someone comes to check you in later that day). Highly recommend and will definitely be returning

Disliked Just note that the service is hit and miss but didn’t bother us

Liked Really nice modern campsite, clean toilets, showers and washing up area. It has everything you could need, there’s even an area with a small fridge and freezer (only to be used for essentials), with plugs and a big mirror which i thought was good. Owner was lovely too!

Local attractions

If guests do decide to give pedal pushing on the 8.5-mile and traffic-free Monsal Trail a go, they can use it to reach Bakewell, stopping at Monsal Head on their merry way for views of the River Wye and the Headstone Viaduct. For leisurely walks with typically stunning Peak District views, try Mam Tor or the Ladybower Reservoir (both around 20 minutes’ drive away); hardier hikers can take on an expedition to Kinder Scout, 40 minutes' drive away, to scale the national park’s highest point. Or, if you’d rather do your sightseeing underground, boat trips through Speedwell Cavern are 20 minutes away...
