Peak View Newhaven Lodge Farm: Stunning surroundings

General

  • Secluded, peaceful site with stunning Peak District views
  • A 15-minute drive from Buxton and Bakewell
  • Direct access to High Peak and Tissington trails for walks/bike rides

Partial to a Peak District view? Perhaps unsurprisingly, Peak View Newhaven Lodge Farm could well be the place for you – this small, secluded Derbyshire touring site is surrounded by the spectacular scenery of the national park, with something pretty to look at whichever way you turn.

The outlook may shout ‘middle of nowhere’, but the site’s actually very easily accessible – getting in and out is fairly straightforward, as there’s a well-maintained limestone track leading to the pitches from the A515. Pubs, cafés and shops (including a fine farm shop) are five minutes’ drive away in the villages of Hartington and Monyash, and it’s a 15-minute drive to the bigger towns of Bakewell and Buxton.

Planning to leave the car in situ and head out on foot or bikes? A fine plan, for it’s just a short amble across the neighbouring field to pick up the High Peak and Tissington trails; hire bikes half a mile away if you’re not able to bring your own wheels along. Also nearby are Lathkill and Wolfscote Dales, along with Ecton Hill for folk seeking a bit more of a challenge.

Reckon those views would be a fine backdrop for an alfresco dinner? Spot on – the site welcomes barbecues. There’s no electricity here, but mains water is supplied and there’s a chemical disposal facility.

Very peaceful , lovely views and sunset in the evening .

Access is easy for caravans , entrance straight off the main road , however the entrance is also very easy to miss, signage could be bigger and more obvious .

There is direct access to the Tissington trail from the site, excellent if you are cyclist , which we aren't but was also lovely for an evening walk

Quiet, peaceful, felt like miles from anywhere! Close to Tissington Trail - in fact almost literally on top of it (trail is at bottom of cutting!) Owner very friendly. Water tap & loo disposal point - what else do you need?!

    Disliked:

Couple of minor points - the entrance off the main road is not that obvious until you're almost on top of it. There is a field gate with a handwritten sign set back from the road. By the time you see it, you've almost passed it, and with someone up your boot, there is no way you can slow down & turn in time. Do check on streetview or similar first, so you know what you're looking out for.

The other point is access to the Tissington Trail. This is through a small gate in the northwest corner of the site, but was not visible to us because someone had camped right in the corner, with their awning guyropes almost across the access path! We went through the large field gate in the *northeast* corner, then lumbered across the long grass (complete with children's scooters!) down to the trail, and only found the gate when coming back up the field later on!

Lovely welcoming people that take the time to give you all the information you need, breathtaking views however be aware that there is no escaping the elements in this part of the world. Turn left when you get on the trail and just after the former bridge there are fresh eggs and home made Jam's for sale so make sure you take change and a back pack

    Disliked:

Site signage is easy to miss and it's hard to get a level pitch however we did manage to get more or less level

So peaceful and beautiful views over the dales. Spacious pitches. Loved the fact it was a small site with less than 10 spaces. Graham was very friendly and helpful. Appreciated the no check in/out times as on most other sites, made it more relaxing.

We loved it, only stayed overnight but such a lovely place with views of gently undulating hills all around. Very peaceful and ideal for a relaxing stay.
The Tissington trail is just down the field and plenty more to do around the area. We drove down to Hartington, such a pretty little village with an excellent cheese shop.
Farmer ( sorry I didn’t get his name) very friendly and helpful.
    We will be back.
    Also excellent WiFi signal!
