The adults-only riverside field
Large field with shelter and safely fenced off from the river

  • Peaceful riverside pop-up site in the Derbyshire Peak District
  • Peak District National Park 15 minutes’ drive; Chatsworth 25 minutes
  • Dog walks straight from the pitches; Barlow pubs 10 minutes’ drive
Overlooking Barlow Brook in gorgeous Derbyshire countryside, Riverside Valley Camping is a peaceful family-run pop-up site on a smallholding that’s home to a herd of dairy cows. The ethos here is simplicity: the owners have kept things basic with minimal facilities to preserve the calm of the surrounding woodland. This means no showers, no electricity and lights off at 10pm please. The whole site is dog-friendly, and the field designated for adults has riverside pitches, while the family camping field is safely fenced off from the water. Chargeable extras include firepits available for hire, and you can also cuddle gentle calves and take them for a (supervised) walk. The pretty village of Barlow (10 minutes’ drive) is home to two award-winning gastro pubs, two breweries and plenty of scenic hiking and biking trails to follow. During August you’ll witness the intricate floral displays known as well dressings decorating the streets, and summertime also brings Barlow Carnival, featuring a parade, delicious local food and beer, live entertainment and a funfair for families. If you’re a keen hiker, you can look forward to long moorland and valley rambles in the Peak District National Park (15 minutes’ drive), and Derbyshire heritage landmarks are easily accessed too – Chatsworth House, its grounds and opulent state rooms are 25 minutes’ drive away.

What customers say

This quiet, roomy farm campsite is loved for its stunning setting, with lots of spots by a stream or lake. The super friendly owners really make it, offering fun farm stuff like cuddling calves. It’s basic but charming, clean, and perfect for a chill break with nature and animals. Minimal facilities, but the scenery and owners are the real drawcards.

Bell tent (riverside, secluded)

Liked We booked a night in the secluded tipi type tent , upon arrival we were shown by Natalie the way to go and she opened the gates for us and made sure we knew everything and also asked us if we needed anything else . The tipi was well equipped with draws lights towels plenty of bedding and pillows . Outside was a table chairs loungers bbq a fire pit both charcoal and wood for the fire pit provided .
There was also a small stream that ran very close to the tent with some loungers in the water too we were told that it was ok to swim but we didn’t bother as it was late when we arrived . There was also a porta-loo which smelled nice and had toilet rolls etc . There’s no WiFi but you can just switch off and enjoy the surroundings I had enough signal to receive calls etc .You pretty much have a corner of a field away from everyone and it’s fenced so our kids could just run around which was great , the beds were so very comfy.
As a bit of a bonus Natalie showed the kids how to milk 2 cows they also fed the calves and walked the calves around.
Overall an excellent experience and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or stay again .
Many thanks
Andrew Carrie and the kids .

Unpowered grass caravan site (family)

Liked Large fields with direct river / stream access and great woodland walks near to 2 lovely pubs. Owners made us feel really welcome and I wish them all the best in their new venture. Camping as Camping should be. Our dog had a fine old time and was worn out after a day of swimming and woodland walks. Great to see lots of other dog owners including multiple dogs.

Unpowered grass caravan site (family)

Liked Possibly the most chilled campsite I've ever visited. Drove onto the site. Picked my own spot. Set myself up for the night, owner came round a bit later in the evening and had a chat.
Really peaceful with the stream running by my pitch. Could even see the fishing ponds through the trees.
Nice walk just out the gate and up the hill a little takes you round to the stunning fishing lakes.
Well worth a visit if you're looking for a quiet, chill night.
