  • Spacious pitches at a family-run farm in rural Bedfordshire
  • Grafham Water and St Neots 15 minutes' drive away
  • Well-stocked village shop and off-licence on site; pub a mile away
Grab yourselves a break that covers two counties with a stay at Top End Farm, on the border of Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire. In the village of Little Staughton, this family-run farm stretches over 11 acres, so lovely country views are standard. The pitches are spread across two fields, making plenty of space for all guests to set their kit up and relax. Facilities have been very well thought out too, particularly the two heated toilets and shower blocks (with large shower cubicles, hair dryers, shaver points and an accessible wet room) and the kitchen area, which has a food prep area, a freezer and two large sinks. There’s a play area to keep the kids busy too. If you're bringing along dogs, take them up to the dog roaming area that covers the top part of the field; they're welcome to run free here, under supervision, as the area is securely enclosed. Sorting food to prep is a doddle, as the site has firepits that can be hired for an additional fee. The farm is also home to the village shop and off-licence, which stocks local veg and fresh bread along with meats for the barbecue. For a more extensive stock-up, there are supermarkets in St Neots, 15 minutes’ drive away. And if you don’t feel like cooking? The folk on site can provide you with details of various takeaways that deliver to the site, or the village pub is a little over a mile away. The farm also has an information hut with all manner of local info on places to go and things to do – activities nearby include fishing, golf, various aqua parks and bike rides, or days out at the Shuttleworth Collection, Woburn Safari Park and Wyboston Lakes.

The L. 1 review

Unpowered grass site

Liked Mandy was lovely. Kept amenities so clean (despite revolting campers who can't aim/clean up after themselves). Site was peaceful, well kept and lots of space, not rigid camping, camp where you fancy. Very welcoming. Nice shop and great space to camp. Friendly wardens. Coded gate in and out. Freezer in kitchen for cool blocks.

Disliked Hot water in the kitchen could have been hotter as we were unable to get grease off things because water was tepid. Showers a bit Katie Perry (you're hot then you're cold) but okay.

Liked Just got home from our 2nd visit to this campsite! Yet again a lovely stay , campsite clean , good size pitches, friendly staff, the park is safe and in view of everyone

Disliked Still again the showers are the only thing letting this campsite down!Showers were cold as they kept tripping the hot water switch! Both shower blocks was cold, the wardens did explain when I found them that this had been happening and beyond there control- that’s understandable - but not good when the kids need a shower.
A lot of campers complaining about the shower facilities between themselves on site!

Liked Great stay in a rent a tent for a couple of nights away with the kids. As former avid campers, Top End Farm is a very friendly and spacious camp ground to while away the day playing games, chatting to fellow campers and watching the local wildlife and planes. Shop connected to the campsite had everything we needed for one of the hottest days of the year inc ice, slushies and of course ice lollies. Check out the information hut for local takeaway, WiFi etc. if you’re looking for a place for some quality time with the family that doesn’t cost the earth. This is the one.

Liked Just returned from our get away with our 4 children. Our 2nd visit to top end farm and it didn’t disappoint. We had an amazing time once again. We decided to return and will be coming back next year. Areas are always kept clean and overall a lovely campsite with a well stocked shop and park with skate ramp where the children made lots of new friends. My youngest especially enjoyed the tie dye session that Graham and Mandy had organised for charity and he is already wearing the tshirt like it’s his only item of clothing! that was an added bonus. We enjoyed our stay that much we ended up extending as we were lucky there was availability. Thank you to the hardworking staff who clearly enjoy what they are doing.

Liked The pitch we were in was good and private

Disliked Did not appear to have walks nearby, not much around, was charged more than price stated at shop. Did not appear to have booking.

From the manager: Good Morning
Did you have a look in the tourist hut where there are maps of the surrounding areas and footpath walks where there is lots of different ideas, or speak to the wardens or shop to point you in the right direction of the walks?
We are a village so apart from the shop (onsite) and pub we are a village im afraid so there isnt much around but to some that is the appeal, our nearest local town is 6.5 miles away.
We do have hot and cold drinks and sandwhiches and pasties in the shop,
Sorry you were charged more at the shop I dont understand this were you overcharged? if so did you ask us in regards to this as mistakes can happen we are only human.
We do always have the bookings as it is on a computer system, sometimes things do need to be checked but the bookings are always there

Disliked Not enough space between electric hook up pitches
Not enough Wash basins in toilet block
Pitch up website states 2pm departure although on arrival site said we had to depart by 11am
Play area needed a tidy up
Shower button needed to stay on longer stop start hot flow
Whole site could have been cleaned up a bit

From the manager: Good morning
Thank you for your review

The space between electric pitches have been measured out and are run along with rules set out to campsites sorry you didnt feel that this was enough,

There is 2 toilet and shower blocks and we have not had any problems with the amount of wash basins, even during covid (when people washed their hands more)

In the booking confirmation email sent by Top End Farm 28th July at 10.14 we do state in the email that the departure time is by 11am on Saturdays, this would have given you 10 days to contact us before your arrival date to contact us regards to the departure time, so you were told before arrival we could have possibly adjusted this if you had contacted us in the 10 days prior to arrival

The shower button is set to a timer to stop water waste,

Sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us hopefully you can give us a try another time and see if we can improve for you

Local attractions

Keen to try something that will get everyone involved and perhaps raise the competitive spirit? There are a few places nearby for that. Head to Colmworth Golf Club (10 minutes’ drive) for some putting action, or Sporting Targets (20 minutes) to discover which clay pigeon shooter among you has the greatest aim. At Southlake Waterpark (15 minutes), you can try different watersports, including paddleboarding, waterskiing and wakeboarding. Grafham Water (15 minutes) is a little more laidback, with activities such as fishing, sailing and peaceful bicycle rides. Like animals of all shapes and sizes? For wildlife watching, head to one of these three: Woburn Safari Park (35 minutes), Herrings Green Activity Farm & Bird of Prey Centre (half an hour) and the Paxton Pits Nature Reserve (15 minutes). For a day of general pottering, St Ives (half an hour) should do the trick, with its pretty town centre, riverside walks and indie shops. Shuttleworth Collection & Gardens (20 minutes) has a short woodland trail and a vintage aircraft collection, making it a nice contender for slow-paced days out too.
