Camping Treumal

Coming to the Costa Brava for the beaches? (Just a guess…) Then you’ll most likely be pleased indeed with the coastal setting of Camping Treumal, a five-minute drive from Calonge, for it has access to not one but two stretches of sand on the Catalonia coastline. Both of those beaches, Can Cristus and Cala del Forn, are fine places to while away many an hour/day/week of your holiday, and there’s more of a similar variety a few minutes further along the coast at Platja D’Aro. For a tad more activity, there are plenty of seaside and outdoor antics close by, including canoeing, horse riding, sailing, scuba diving and golf. Girona, Figueres and Barcelona are all doable as day trips if you fancy a change of scenery. Getting out to all of the above should be pretty straightforward as reception runs 24 hours a day to help with sorting such things as car hire, bike hire and excursions… along with airport shuttles for when it’s time to bid adios. Try to make that farewell moment as far removed from arrival as poss, as you may also require a (large) number of hours to factor in all that’s on site too: facilities here include an outdoor swimming pool, playground and games room with table tennis, plus three multisports courts that can be used for football, basketball, volleyball, handball or badminton. The friendly site team organises kids’ activities and evening entertainment throughout high season too. For eats, there's a smart restaurant with sea views, a snack bar with takeaways and a well-stocked supermarket with daily bread deliveries. There’s also a bar if you just want to cap your beach day with a cool beer or two…

Can’t get enough of the watery antics? Take a 10-minute walk to the local diving centre for scuba outings (or training, if you’re not yet up to speed on the technique), or drive for five minutes to the Aquadiver waterpark for a wave pool and waterslides galore. And how about a day of art and wine? The eccentric Dalí Theatre-Museum is quite the spectacle – as you’d probably expect for such a flamboyant character – and well worth the hour-long drive up to Figueres. Stop in at one of the wineries around Calonge (10 minutes’ drive) for a bottle to sip back at base while discussing the finer points of the artworks. Urban wanders are worth considering too, whether they involve taking in the medieval walls and Game of Thrones locations in Girona (40 minutes) or the museums, markets and colourful Gaudí architecture in Barcelona (an hour and 15 minutes).
