Ghostly goings-on in Salisbury this Christmas

Nov 28 2012 Veröffentlicht von Laura Canning

A ghostly Christmas market? We’ll be there before you can say Ebenezeer Scrooge. Clank your way to Salisbury from this week for ghostly tours of the city, running alongside the Salisbury Christmas market.

Several buildings in Salisbury are rumoured to be haunted: the Debenhams department store is said to have the ghost of the second Duke of Buckingham Henry Stafford, beheaded on the site in 1483 for his part in the plot to depose Richard III. He’s one of around twenty ghosts floating about the medieval city, with others including the seventeenth century Cavalier ‘Oliver’ and the hanged highwayman William Boulter.

Tours start from 30 November and run until 1 January – more info is available from the Salisbury Tourist Information Centre in Fish Row. To stay nearby, Stonehenge Caravan Park is less than eight miles from Salisbury and has a heated glamping eco pod available from £30 a night for two adults; the pod can also sleep one or two small children if required.
