Pitchup.com knows where the cool kids are camping this summer

Jul 20 2010 Indsendt af Lewis Shields

The kitsch nostalgia of this season’s unexpected camping boom, spurred on by hot summer nights and Britain’s renewed love of festival culture, has seen a flurry of cool campsites coming to the fore.

Camping and caravanning offers a wide range of choice, from holiday parks with all-day entertainment to remote wildernesses where you can bring out your inner Bear Grylls. But for something really unique check out Pitchup.com's camping 2.0 search facility*, to find out where the cool kids are doing it this summer.

La Rosa,The North Yorkshire Moors National Park

This eccentric park has just eight caravans and a converted truck, all with bright, kitsch decor and comfortable beds. The site, spread over a 20-acre site, fits with the boho spirit and is lit with candles and fairy lights. The site is very eco-friendly and relies on wood stoves, rather than generators, to be kind to the surrounding animals. Prices start from £28 per person per night.

Billycan Camping, Arundel, West Sussex

Situated in 650 acres of farmland, Billycan Camping is an idyllic camping escape. This romantic park offers fully-fitted canvas bell tents, dining under the night sky, a communal campfire to toast marshmallows and stunning views. The historic town of Arundel is just a short stroll away for guests to pick up local treats and organic provisions. The site also offers art classes to capture the local beauty and riding lessons. Prices start from £195 for two nights (weekend) in a four-metre bell tent which sleeps two to three and includes Friday night dinner & breakfast hamper.

The Original Hut Company, Robertsbridge, East Sussex

Set on a farm in the tiny village of Bodiam, these unique huts, based on the idea of an old shepherd’s hut, offer a beautiful, comfortable and sustainable boutique camping experience. The huts are constructed using recycled chassis from touring caravans (this also makes them considerably more manoeuvrable than those on traditional iron wheels), the roofs are made from an old corn bin, and the timber for the worktops and seat covers is sourced from sustainable woods on the farm (as is the wood for the fires). Prices start from £295 for a week inclusive of water, gas, bed linen and a starter pile of logs for the fire.

Eco Retreats Tipis, Machynlleth, Powys

This eco-centre site in Wales combines the luxury of a hotel with the excitement of going back to nature. Healing sessions, Reiki and meditation are all offered in the heart of this beautiful forest, to rejuvenate mind body and soul – perfect for city dwellers in need of an escape. Prices start from £305 for two guests staying two nights, including a Reiki session each, twilight meditation, tickets for Centre for Alternative Technology and organic welcome hamper.

The Treehouse, Taunton, Somerset

England’s first five-star treehouse offers stylishly designed interiors suitable for up to five guests. Situated in the beautiful conservation village of Halse, there are three decking areas for looking out over the surrounding fields, or unwinding in the cedar hot tub which is perfect for a glass of wine under the stars. The Treehouse comes with Egyptian cotton linen, fluffy towels, flowers, cosy bathrobes, toiletries and a complimentary basket of seasonal local produce for guests to enjoy. Prices start from £765 for a short break.

Eskdale Pod Camping, Boot, Cumbria

These camping pods can sleep up to four people and are available throughout the camping season. Because of the cover, guest can leave their tent at home, leaving more room for guitars and marshmallows. This site offers 10 of these cool pods, designed to fit in with glorious Lakeland countryside. One pod costs from £40 per night.
