Camping Les Sables du Midi

Several spectacularly scenic spots are near the holiday park, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Canal du Midi, running for 240 kilometres through green landscape. Boat cruises, hiking and horse riding are all popular in the flat landscape around the water – although cycling types might like to follow one of the (easier) parts of the Tour de France route. Further north of Les Sables du Midi are the deep and narrow Hérault Gorges (an hour and a half’s drive) in a wild area that can be explored on kayaking, climbing and canyoning trips. If that’s not your wild style, aim instead for Réserve Africaine de Sigean (40 minutes), to see African beasts roaming with a Mediterranean backdrop. Also within reach are the medieval walls and 53 towers of Carcassonne (an hour) and the seaside resort Cap d’Agde (25 minutes), referred to by locals as the smaller version of Saint-Tropez. This is the place to go for boat tours, diving and hours of keeping les enfants entertained at the amusement park Toonsland and the waterpark Aqualand.
