Villatent at Camping Lac d'Orient

Get set to satisfy lakeside longings at Villatent at Camping Lac d'Orient, a small group of well-built canvas safari tents located in a family-friendly holiday park in a quiet part of the Aube department. Located well within the Orient Forest area and a few steps from a sandy lake beach, this site will suit sporty sorts, families with young kids and pretty much anyone who likes life by the water. The tents are clustered together in their own section of the site, a short walk from the outdoor pool complex, indoor pool, playgrounds, restaurant and food shop that are accessible to all guests. Outdoor furniture is included to help with alfresco relaxation, while inside the décor is modern and bright throughout the living space, sleeping compartments and well-equipped kitchen area. When it's time to step out and explore, the centre of Mesnil-Saint-Père is just over a kilometre away, where there's a pleasure port, bakeries, a tourist information centre and several beachfront bars. The nearest decent-sized supermarket is roughly 10 minutes away by road in Lusigny-sur-Barse. As you drift back to base after stocking up or taking in the tourist sights of the medieval city of Troyes (30 minutes), you've a choice between sit-down dinners at the on-site restaurant, grilling yourself something tasty on the barbecue provided, or (in July and August) gearing up for some of the evening entertainment laid on by local Lac d'Orient talent.

Right opposite the site you have Mesnil-Saint-Père, a sandy beach where you can swim, lounge in the sun or take advantage of several rental options – the only question that remains is whether you'll opt for electric boats, catamarans, pedalos, windsurfing boards or canoes. In addition, this well-managed nature area is a hot spot for angling: carp, pike, bream and catfish can be found in these crystal-clear waters, and there are several spots around the lake where you can fish for them in blissful peace. A short drive away is Troyes (30 minutes' drive), the top history, culture and shopping hub of the Champagne region where most visitors will find something to take their fancy. The streets of the old quarter are lined with colourful half-timbered houses that are an attraction in their own right, while near the banks of the Canal du Trévois are the Basilique Saint-Urbain, medieval cathedral and a covered market. And for the kids? Some of the site's suggestions include Womba Parc (20 minutes), a soft play centre, or Ferme de la Marque (15 minutes), an educational farm.
