This part of the Calvados coastline is packed with places to visit – especially if you’re interested in history. The castle and abbeys in Caen (25 minutes' drive) will take you way back through the ages, as will a trip to the famed Bayeux Tapestry Museum (35 minutes). Meanwhile, the history of the 20th century can be explored all along the coast at the various D Day landing beaches and associated memorials. The British Normandy Memorial (25 minutes), Hillman Site (15 minutes) and D-Day Museum (half an hour) are among the places where you can get a feel for the era and pay your respects. To lift the mood again, head to Colline aux Oiseaux (25 minutes) to meet the animals and play miniature golf, spend some time on the rides and go-karts at Parc Festyland (half an hour) or try the treetop course at West Adventure concept (15 minutes).
