As Auvergne holiday settings go, this one’s a real winner – Camping Onlycamp Le Pré is in a scenic spot between the Volcans d’Auvergne and Livradois-Forez regional natural parks. And it has a convenient location too, on the edge of medieval Montaigut-le-Blanc and just a few minutes’ walk from the village’s food shops and restaurant. All of this adds up to an excellent base for a holiday in this area – one that’s packed with outdoor activities like hikes, watersports and fishing or castle visits. Volcanoes should be on the schedule too, as both Puy de Dôme and Vulcania are within 45 minutes’ drive. You’ll want to factor in time on site too, because there’s plenty to keep you occupied on these spacious, shady pitches, which are on the banks of the Couze Chambon river, with direct access to the water. Tennis, volleyball, table tennis and pétanque are on hand, and there’s also a games room, playground and a trampoline for the kids. A few minutes’ stroll takes you to the public pool (free for site guests), which is lifeguarded and has a paddling pool; it’s open throughout summer and runs free swimming lessons in the morning too. Time to eat? The site’s food court has a collection of trucks selling snacks, ice creams and soft drinks. In July and August, you can also order breakfast through the bread delivery service. Being a family-friendly kind of place, there are lots of handy facilities to make life easy, including a launderette and well-equipped bathroom blocks.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations.

We completely understand your disappointment regarding the lack of Wi-Fi, and we sincerely apologize for this.

Regarding the proximity of shops and restaurants, we would like to clarify that there are indeed some available in the nearby village of Champeix, just a 5 minutes drive from the campsite. We understand that this may have been unclear if not properly communicated, and we will make sure to improve the accuracy of our information going forward.

Please note that since your departure, we have updated our information to ensure it reflects the current services and surroundings more accurately. Additionally, we would like to mention that our on-site food truck will be opening soon, as the number of guests increases over the summer season.

If you’d like to explore locally, have a stroll through Montaigut-le-Blanc’s cobbled lanes and then head off along the Chemin des Caves to the 140 Caves (15 minutes’ walk), where wine was kept in the 19th century; some of them are used to store the local St Nectaire cheese today. There are more caves – this time troglodyte dwellings – at The Jonas Caves (15 minutes’ drive); some are open for visits and have faded frescoes on the walls. You can go castle-bagging too. Kids will enjoy the themed tours and archery sessions at Château de Murol (20 minutes). Who can resist visiting a volcano? Scramble up hiking trails to the top of Puy de Dôme (45 minutes) – or cheat and take the mini train – for spectacular views over the cones of several extinct volcanoes. When you’ve seen the real things, next stop could be Vulcania (also 45 minutes), a volcano-themed amusement park with interactive rides and 4D films in the planetarium.
