Callander Woods Holiday Park

This area isn’t called Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park for nothing: the shores of Loch Lomond are 45 minutes from Callander Woods Holiday Park. Make the drive for boat trips, the gardens at Balloch Castle Country Park, and the aquarium. There’s plenty near here to keep the kids entertained – they can have a poke around the Hamilton Toy Collection (one of the largest privately owned toy collections in the UK), meet the animals at Blair Drummond Safari Park or fall back in time on a tour of the stunning Loch Katrine aboard the Steamship Sir Walter Scott. Grownups can find entertainment in a barrel of nearby distilleries. Start with tour and tasting at McQueen Gin (five minutes from site), then venture further afield under the careful watch of your designated driver for Deanston Distillery (10 minutes) and Glengoyne Distillery (40 minutes) for more tastings. If you’re up for a longer car journey, day trips to Glasgow and Edinburgh, both roughly an hour away, come highly recommended: museums, galleries, gardens, historical sites and a host of top-notch eateries will make either jaunt worthwhile.
