Grownups! If you seek serenity, scenery and nature-spotting on holiday, this is the Shropshire site for you. Adjacent to the mere of Colemere and set on the lake's south side, adults-only Colemere Caravan Park is in a countryside setting on five acres of wildlife-laden land with peaceful walks all around – and a quarter of a mile from Wood Lane nature reserve, which the expert folk at the BBC describe as one of the best birdwatching sites in Shropshire. Owners Dave and Ingrid have put a lot of thought into ensuring that guests are kept comfy at this peaceful and popular little site: as well as a good range of accommodation options, guests have access to a fully-equipped and cute social area, all hand-built and including a kitchen with fridge, kettle, utensils, pots and microwave. Firepits are available on request and guests can bring their own barbecues. And for keeping toasty after that, a Nordic wood-fired hot tub overlooking the lily pond is available to hire in the afternoons and evenings for four-hour periods (couples only). Picnic tables are dotted around to place the campfire food on, and the park has well-kept separate bathrooms for ladies and gents.

Areal autocamper med græs med elektricitet

Syntes om: Grounds - they are incredible, picturesque, variety of wildlife non intrusive wildlife (bunnies and birds), variety of camping locations (sunset, open space, private space, sheltered, etc.), ponds and trees are all so beautiful. Facilities - Common room is nice (has a microwave if you need it), showers are clean, warm and with space for getting changed in them. Location - Colemere walking route is lovely, multiple walking routes from the campsite and varying lengths. You can walk to Ellesmere from the campsite if you wish. Easy to drive to Shrewsbury and Wales from the site. Multiple good quality restaurants nearby.

Syntes ikke om: It's amazing, definitely going back 🙂 Don't take this as a reason not to go. There's only one small sink in each of the toilets, which makes face washing difficult. Our campervan doesn't have a big enough sink to wash our faces with, whereas many do, so it's not a major thing at all.

Otter camping-pod

Syntes om: was a lovely stay , camp was gorgeous and wonderful atmosphere. close distance to the lake which was a lovely 1h walk , and then drove to the mere lake. loved seeing the wildlife such as the bunnies all around the camp also

Badger camping-pod

Syntes om: Lovely site, very clean, nice toilet facilities and the kitchen area is lovely too with a microwave, sink and tables to sit at, along with two small fridges and a little freezer. The Badger pod was wonderful to stay in, and the fire pit was set up with wood provided for all three nights. Sam met me after I arrived with a map of the area and pointed out some walks I could take the dog on around the mere which was beautiful, and the local pubs and places to see.

Syntes ikke om: Wish the WiFi reached the huts, and that there was a stove or some kind of way of making pasta/noodles/rice etc.

Syntes om: Lovely peaceful site with large pitches. Because the site is on undulating ground it makes it feel like there are less people there than there are. Pitches are mown but the grass in between I kept longer so feels you’re in the wild. Beautiful covered communal area with washing up facilities, microwave, seating, fridge and heating for when it gets cold. Site is literally 2 minutes from Colemere (lake) and about a 15 minute walk from canal which you can follow into Ellesmere.

Syntes om: The site was absolutely beautiful - so much space and incredibly well-maintained. We loved the communal area (which even had a toaster!) and the nice vibes / social atmosphere in there on the evening. The location is fantastic and there’s loads to do in the area, the site is right on the mere which is a lovely walk and not far at all from the canal which, again, is a lovely walk and leads right into Ellesmere - we were also given a map with some routes on and a list of suggestions of what we could do locally which was a lovely touch.

Syntes ikke om: The facilities are lovely, but there aren’t many - it was quite quiet when we stayed, so luckily not much of an issue but I can imagine it being a bit trickier when busy. One of the two female toilets also ran out of toilet roll a couple of times during our stay (meaning there was only one toilet available) and there was also only one place to wash dishes. The owners were away when we visited, but the person looking after the site in their absence was quite rude and hostile / not the most welcoming - they actually weren’t there when we arrived either, but a guest at the site who goes regularly was there to greet us and she was LOVELY.

Syntes om: The site was beautiful and when we visited very quiet! The owners were fantastic. They messaged the day of our arrival and then met us when we arrived. They provided us with a map of the local area with some lovely walks. We walked to a local pub for diner based on their recommendations. The facilities were fantastic and well maintained! Coming from Ellesmere to Shrewsbury on the A528 you will see signs for Colemere after 2 miles. Turn left at the crossroads and drive to the next junction where the three lanes converge. Turn left on to Mill Lane and the park is 100 metres on your right-hand side.

There's stacks to do in the surrounding area, whether you want to stick close to home by foot or pedal, or drive a bit further afield to the towns, tourist attractions and landscapes of Shropshire, Cheshire and north-east Wales – the city of Chester is 40 minutes away and Llangollen on the River Dee reachable within an hour. On the doorstep, tackle the two-mile walk along the canal towpath to Ellesmere or make your way via the purpose-built circular walk and through a wooded area of rhododendrons around the mere and nature reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest with species galore to see like otters, lapwings and water birds. The reserve also has several deep fishing pools well-stocked with catfish and big carp; more fishing – and carp – can be had nearby at Blackmere along the towpath from Colmere. Also nearby, wander into Colemere village to see the fifteenth-century thatched cottages, listed in the Domesday Book, to Ellesmere for food festivals, regattas and boat rides on the mere, or drive to Rednal Karting, Paintballing and Laser for an exciting time ten minutes away. Castles including Chirk and Whittington are a doddle to drive to too. If being on the water is your thing, a narrowboat marina is a three-minute drive away from the caravan park and both Colemere and Whitemere sailing clubs are within easy reach. By car, the standard of whitewater rafting at Bala Adventure and Watersports will have you foaming at the mouth – a milder form of the sport, along with abseiling, gorge walking, a steam railway and horse-drawn boat trips is available over the border in Wales at Llangollen.
